"I need help finding a movie" thread

Inspired by our dear leader's search for trash bag carrying Asian women I thought I'd ask about the name of a movie I can't remember the name of, as well as a thread for any questions like that anyone has.

The movie I'm thinking of is from 2011 or around there, it's a science fiction film about a group of British people at the turn of the century, staying at like a posh riverside manor or something like that and some scientist has invented this strange portal, I can't remember if it's a time machine or crossing over into alternate universes but it was something like that, it had the same kind of vibe as a movie like Primer.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Are you talking about The Time Machine? The one were the guy keeps trying to go back and save the girl from getting comically killed? And then he accidentally goes to the future. It's from 2004 not 2011. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0268695/

Kind of a forgotten movie.

Found a movie that sounds a bit similar, only it’s an American movie and I don’t think there’s a scientist involved; alternate dimensions start appearing thanks to a passing comet: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt2866360/

EDIT: Also found this one:

Alright, this is an old thread, but I do not feel like starting a duplicate thread when this one already exists.

I am looking for the name of a live-action comedy movie where you have some guy from an alien planet who looks human, and seems to be a complete dork even on his own world. He is given some sacred weapon of some sort and sent to Earth on a mission to invade and kill everyone on Earth by himself...and he is not sure how to do it as he completely sucks at it. He befriends a human boy along the way.

I forgot when it came out, but I think it is from the 1980's. I cannot remember the name and all of the results I get when searching online are completely unrelated to the movie I am trying to find.

Does anybody know what it might be?

I’m drawing a blank on an exact match but maybe Coneheads? That was a family though and the 90s. There was morons from outer space but I don’t remember it ever being screened in the US so can’t vouch for if it fits the description

Does anyone else remmber a movie about a dad being kidnapp and his family are trying to look for him?

Hello im here to necropost (sorry)

It isn't a movie I personaly watched but my parents whached it somewhere around 2013-14.

I call it "the chinesse miner movie"

The plot was something about a mineing accident and the supernatural from the perspective of the miners but it was so long and boring that my parents forgot the title.

So please help a fellow kiwi. It world be very much aprecieted.

It sounds a little like Beneath (2013), though I'm not sure if that has any Chinese connection.

Longshot but, Desperation? It's based on a Stephen King novel. The minors that died years ago and still haunt the mine were Chinese.

Thanks guys for the help.

I mannaged to get some more info out of my dad.

It was definetly a chineiese national production (possibly taiwanese). And it was featured on "the top movies of the year/decade" by an online magazine called "Esencja" (a link to this relic of a site)

I looked around the site but nothing poped up.

@Sillyclown

All I can dig up (no pun intended) are:

Behemoth (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4901304/) - this is from 2015, so a little later than you estimated, but it's certainly boring, and on a few awards lists. It's a documentary, but shot as kind of a movie, and the miners at many points seem ghostlike or otherwise horror-y, so it could easily get mistaken for a horror movie with the fog of memory combined with not speaking the language.

and

Blind Shaft (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0351299/) From 2003. More of a thriller than a horror, and it doesn't have ghosts (but does have visions of dead guys), but it takes place mostly in a mine and was considered a list-worthy Chinese horror.

There's a long shot of Lift to Hell (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2192624/) , but I haven't seen it, just a guess. It's not a mine, but it takes place in the underground underneath a hospital, and it looks like it has ghosts, so maybe they were miners, who knows).

Just came across this over a year-old post, but that sounds a lot like Evil Alien Conquerors. It was made in 2003 for only 500K so it does look much older.

Actually, I think that is it! Thank-you! I have been looking for it for years.

For some reason, I thought it was from the 1980's, but it was much more recent than I thought.

All right these are great guesses but after consulting my mum and dad we are looking for artsy films.

Shit that would make a film critic go "hummina hummina awooga".

the movie made as much sense as the short one in the monty phyton's flying cricus "french subtiteld film" (sorry for the nerd comparison)
