I sometimes wonder if Science exists to be a thought-limiter

Science does limit thought in a way because science at its core (without any sort of biases) is the observation/analysis of the material world. It is the thing that tells you it doesn't matter if you'd like it if magic is real, it is not reproducible and does not exist.

It also tells you if you want to be healthy and not die you should live a certain way.
You could not think according to science if you want, you could throw yourself into a volcano like that one ancient guy who thought he was a god, but then you'll die and will stop thinking anything at all.
Therefore if your goal is to avoid ceasing to exist then you do have to stop fantasizing and observe the laws of the material world.

That is not really science limiting thought though, that's more the Talos Principle: it doesn't matter what your thoughts or philosophy are, we're physical beings and are therefore beholden to the physical realities of the world around us.

Btw I don't think the Talos Principle is a real thing, it was made up for the videogame, but imo it deserves to be a real thing.

Science has been weaponized in modern times, but it is just the pursuit of knowledge, it should in theory be the opposite of a thought limiter.

Science has been made into a type of religion, Scienceism, intersecting with Wokeism, and is used most often as a social & political cudgel ("trust the experts", etc), so in practice, yes.
