I read the thread about robo-mushrooms here last night and it got me thinking. Anon was right to fear this. Mushrooms - or, properly, mycelium colonies - probably are somewhat intelligent, at least past a certain size. They're also voracious and highly reproductive parasites and decomposers. Those fungi which can actually move in any way are best known for aggressively parasitizing insects, taking over their nervous systems and piloting their bodies into view of predators. A self-aware fungus given a body very likely wouldn't think twice about doing the same to humans. Just because it would be intelligent does not mean it would be benevolent towards us. Just because we gave it a body does not mean it would experience anything like gratitude or curiosity. It would almost certainly take advantage of the situation to fulfill its biological urges to feed and breed more efficiently.
I realize this is autistic and you goys deserve a better write up. Maybe I'll be able to after this sixteen. I'm at least curious where people stand on this and whether it'll become an active topic or get me postbanned by a jannie.
