If humans evolved from monkeys, then why are there still monkeys?

Humans didn't even evolve from apes; we and apes both evolved from a common ancestor. Some were ill-suited for their environment and had to change and adapt to survive. Others were surviving in their environment just fine and didn't need to change much. The former had its weaklings purged by nature, allowing only the abnormally healthy or clever to survive. The latter bred its weaklings indefinitely, so exceptional individuals had less impact on the gene pool.

Humans are apes. Grouping chimpanzees and orangutans together as apes and excluding humans is paraphyletic.
