The year I discovered my favorite record store, the year I played Yakuza 1 on a 19 inch CRT in my grandparent's garage in the middle of winter, the year I truly got into my favorite band of all time (Nine Inch Nails), the year I started building up my manga collection and tried to get into learning Japanese.
That was my favorite year of all time.

If I could go back to any era it would be 1998 - 2006.

Morally tough for me to decide. If I had to go back in time and stay there at that period either

A) It would be in Israel during the times of the apostles as an article of faith, or
B) It would be as someone mentioned back between the 70s to 90s not just to relive that era but also to try and pull off a Back to the Future scheme and get rich betting on sports teams, lottery numbers, or stocks.

Edit : also B) could be really douchie as well and effectively steal people's patents and copyrights post 90s or so forth and try claiming them before that period. Certainly tempting to try to be facebook before Mark Zuckerberg came along.
