In defense of traditional console gaming - The PC master race utopia is not all it's cracked up to be

Im going to be the token Console nerd to stick up for this guy and say I like the ps5 more then PC. I still get almost all the major games and I dont have to worry about updating my drivers and shit.
Some people are trying to turn this into a Console vs PC sort of thing when that wasn't my intention.

I just think gaming would be a lot better today if the traditional console gaming model was still a major force in gaming alongside the open platforms like PC. Modern consoles
turning into generic PCs ( Nintendo being the only exception to this ) has been a disaster for gaming.

It's going to be hilarious to see people in 10 years buying the lasted high end PC hardware just so that they can run GameCube games at 900 fps in 12k resolutions, because there will barely be any new good games worth playing or new consoles worth emulating ( for obvious reasons ).

Your argument falls appart in the first paragraph, new console aren't going to be worth shit either. The servers they're tethered to will be shut down before it even hits vintage status.

Addendum: You start off shitting on the current PC ecosystem. Then switch to babbling about "traditional" gaming as if computers were never part of this so called "traditional" era of gaming. To then switch back to shitting on computer users.
it's a frog profile picture buddy.
he is not going to be coherent.

meanwhile an ancient 2600 or NES will still be valuable in 50 years.

closed ecosystems/ closed platforms have an intrinsic value
So you want to own gaming systems to speculate on them rather than play them, as actually using them would lower the theoretical resell value.

See
that all video games should be available everywhere on principle... has been a disaster for gaming

Artificial scarcity. A computer can do anything.
A console is just a locked down computer

You have a point, you’re looking for a nes plug in the cartridge experience. You’re still a faggot.

There's a reason why some random anons current year super high end PC ( equiped with a brand new rtx 5090, paired with a Ryzen 9 9950X3D etc) will be worth next to nothing in 10 years, meanwhile an ancient 2600 or NES will still be valuable in 50 years.
An Atari 2600 with a nice bundle of games goes for around $200 on Ebay. A working Apple II, released around the same time, with monitor and peripherals will run $400-$500, or more than $1000 if more than that's included. An NES sells for around $100. An Amiga 1000, released the same year, sells for around $500. You can easily pay more than $1000 if it includes everything that came in the box. The one thing old cartridge-based systems have going for them is the games don't crumble to dust. Sure, you can emulate an Apple II, a C64, an NES, an Atari 5200, or anything else that strikes your fancy on a modern PC. But if you're buying old hardware, that's not what you want to do, is it? But with anything relying on CDs or floppy disks, you immediately run into the problem that those media were fragile. ROM carts, by contrast, can be brutalized pretty badly, and as long as you clean off the connectors, they'll likely still work.

Funny when even when you're not talking about "proto-woke" culture war shit you still end up sounding like a retard and get your ass handed to you, OP
Don't think I've forgotten, Joey.
Console peasants will always lose

Your premise is correct, but your actual OP is retarded. Consoles need to exist in the sense that there needs to be a way to quickly turn on a device, put in a game (if physical), and start playing with minimal setup, maintenance, or technical knowledge. Or in harsher words, something that’s idiot-proof.

Except that’s not how it actually works anymore. Gaming PCs are constantly becoming easier to use while consoles are becoming more tedious. A Steam Deck, if you choose to ignore things like plugins and desktop mode and only use the Steam store, is about as easy to use as a modern console and can play far more. Consoles were absolutely necessary in the 20th century, 2000s, and even 2010s, but they’re growing obsolete because technology has evolved to the point where that sort of proprietary system is no longer necessary.

not to mention that technology has progressed to the point of pc and console hardware being the exact same thing so there is no point of needing a console lest you desire something handheld in which, well, we have steamdeck and whatnot to fill in that gap until pc gaming has evolved further, if i recall the half life thread valve has hinted of doing handheld VR stuff so you won't need to stay connected on your pc.

One may argue it can breed competition, resulting in better games. You mentioned DKC, which is a perfect example of that.

Competition is only as good as the players in the industry. Other than Disney's purchase of 20th Century Fox and the bankruptcy of MGM/later acquisition by Amazon, the movie ecosystem hasn't changed much in decades, but quality of films has dropped across the board.

I would argue the pick up and play nature of consoles while a great thing was never the primary reason to buy a console, exclusive software was always the main reason why anyone would want to buy a gaming console. The Switch 2 doesn't have that pick up and play quality to it that every Nintendo handheld up to the 3DS had, but it still has Nintendo first party exclusives which is the reason why tens of millions of people will buy a Switch 2.

FTFY, faggot.
also comparing the switch 2 to 3DS is incredibly retarded, you should compare it to steam deck, especially since you can run switch emulators on deck.

I don't believe PS3 emulation is there yet compared to GameCube/Wii emulation without needing a beast of a machine to work with the PS3's anemic architecture. There's still value in console gaming, just not consoles from today. (Unless you count Nintendo's offerings.)

The 3DS is great for picking up and playing, the initial problem was a weak library and a high price, both of which were fixed over time; the Switch 2 arguably has the same problem. The only people who unironically enjoy Donkey Kong Bananza are manchildren who will eat up anything Nintendo puts out, actual children, and pedophile manchildren.

Hey Joey, can you tell us which console has the most amount of proto-woke games? I need to know which ones I need to avoid.

There's nothing wrong gameplay wise with Bananza, and the graphics are pretty decent too.

The only real problem I have with this game is the awful redesign for Donkey Kong himself. His old model ( that he had since DKC ) was perfect, he went from looking like a Kool Kong in Smash Ultimate to a Soy Kong in this game , very big downgrade in his design imo.

As for the rest of the game it's an easy 8 out of 10 experience, very enjoyable from the beginning up to the end.
