Inazuma Eleven General - LEVEL-5's unintentional response to Pokemon

I played about a dozen matches. Lost every one.

Where the fuck is the matchmaking? All but a couple of my opponents were over twice my level and my special moves get beaten by their normal moves. The EXP is great assuming the other player doesn't fuck around with you for 15 minutes, only to disconnect at the end so you don't get experience.

Yeah that's a fucking thing.

Otherwise this game is harder than I expected. In a good way. My drifty controllers are absolutely fucking with my play. This is one of those games where it manifests more clearly than sone others. I have my stick pointed forward and the ball gets kicked backwards. Either it is drift, or the game has an issue buffering your next kick (if it even does this at all).

There is a pretty decent game here. Needs some testing, which the devs are doing. As of now we are decent. Definitely sending in these complaints though.

EDIT:
Okay, I just played another match. I definitely think there is a buffering issue with next moves. At least the last guy I played was cool and let me get my EXP. He was 10 levels above me at level 19.

Had my shot aimed forward and they kicked it backward into my own net. I wonder if I am trying to play too fast? Also I find myself unable to select attacks sometimes and I think maybe the game disables action inputs if the player is moving?

But I still have not discounted my crappy controllers.

The beta test came out about a half hour go and I'm half-way through my first match, but I've got to head out to work soon.

So far I am enjoying it. The presentation is very clean and I liked that they asked me if I wanted to use the A button or the B button as my "confirm" button. More games should do this, especially multiplatform games. I'll have proper feedback on the game maybe tonight but definitely over the weekend.

In-game tutorial videos are well-placed and not too intrusive. They are also actually informative. I was surprised to see my coach had a player card, a level and apparently stats... which is intriguing. And the team aspect of the game has been fleshed out more, with a lot more passive options and abilities in the mix.

The biggest crime against humanity so far? WHERE THE FUCK IS BOBBY? You know Bobby. He's the guy from my opening post that I told you was really, really good but is a starter character with unassuming stats. I guess I know who my team captain will be once I can create my own.

Go grab the beta on the Switch or PS4/5 or Steam or whatever and give it a shot!
They give you only three teams to work with by scrambling players from games 2 and 3 from the original generation and at least from game 2 from the GO series, it seems. That said, this being what, another decade after the GO games [or its equivalents, since I don't follow the new timeline at all], we're probably getting three of him.

I am pretty sure this is at least a bit of a buffering issue, or something. Mashing B doesn't really work, especially because it's trying to find a valid target at all times, but if you try to point it with the stick [like when the goalie gets the ball] it tends to stall more often than not. It really wants you to play with a hand on the stick to keep full control and a hand on the screen to actually direct the ball like in the old games.

For special moves, the big thing is that special moves now have cooldowns [as opposed to before, where you could spam them in a row] as well as their TP cost. To compensate, however, you don't actually spend TP in the Zone when you do a special move until it reaches the goal - that is to say, do a super pass to another player that also has a super kick and you'll get to boost their power by a bunch.

Also, I really wish they gave us the 15 minutes the game lacks, 30 minutes a half isn't that good when you have to keep draining KP/GP/whatever and the thing

I have really enjoyed this change and overall there is more soccer to be played in this.

Oh also, I am playing on my TV with a pro controller now. So far it is good. I am improving. Still can't win online due to matchmaking, but I did draw with a Japanese player an hour ago. They were only 4 levels above me. Yay!

When I can start getting level pairity with my opponents, I am going to smoke these jokers. Already even with a level disparity of 10 or more, I am giving these people a lot of problems. I had one guy with 15 levels on me, plus a team of gold-tier character cards. But I kept him bottled up in his zone and was taking open shots at his net (with 0 success) and he rage quit. Ha!

I really like the cards/spirits that have been used to augment the leveling system. It took me a minute to figure out what the heck they did and I wasted a few, but they become really valuable really fast. If you go to your training menu and select a player, you can see a "spirit" menu option. That will allow you to raise your character's rarity. Green is basic and it goes up through purple all the way to gold.

If you notice a red exclamation point on one of your character cards in the menu, that means you've collected THEIR spirit. If you apply Axel Blaze's spirit to Axel Blaze, the spirit is worth double points; furthermore, if you have Axel Blaze at GREEN level and pick up his PURPLE spirit, using a higher tier spirit on the same named character will instantly level them up to whatever tier that spirit was, in this case PURPLE. So make sure you're paying attention to those exclamation points because they are alerting you to huge leveling opportunities.

When your cards reach a new level, that player then adds a new passive to your team's global list of passives. These add up fast. Really fast.

So far the game has been fun. I've yet to win a single online match, much like was mentioned here. The matchmaking system needs some serious work. But I have had several very good matches regardless. And you will get upwards of 10,000 experience when you lose against an overwhelming opponent, which isn't so bad.

Have any of you had issues with changing your active player during matches? Sometimes I can't figure out why the game is switching to character A instead of character B or C in several situations.

The music is also really good and matches are very fun and energetic throughout. They got that part right. And I've been told that the game is also pretty entertaining to watch. Also a good thing.

It's a demo, but probably, just like how they removed 90% of the gear [ as if you won't get to dress up in every team of about seven or eight games and get their shoes] and the 'summon players' thing. Or maybe it's limited to story mode. Or something.

That's my hope @Another Random. One thing I had thought about was that some of these beta items might not make it into the final game. I feel like I remember Level-5 saying that save files could transfer, but maybe I am mistaken. So I'm gonna try to get one of everything just in case.

Either way I'm enjoying things but the online is pretty bad. My Internet connection isn't the best. And even though my Switch is plugged into Ethernet, I'm still experiencing lag and losing a bunch. I'm a bit discouraged, to be honest. I can clearly see that I know the game better than some of my opponents but I'm showing up fractions of a second late on every single encounter; once everything starts to play out my positioning jumps and it is revealed that I wasn't at all where I thought I was and my players are a few feet away from the action.

Like you said, it's a demo. But I've been around long enough to know that most companies are never able to fix online connectivity issues. The plus side is that I'm mostly here for the single player campaign; however I was actually pretty excited for the first time in years to play a game online against other people. I rarely have an interest in such a thing.

So I'm pretty bummed out that the online is failing so hard. On the one hand I am not facing teams that are 15 levels higher than me. On the other hand, it doesn't seem to matter if the team is ten levels higher, on-level or five levels lower, I'm getting the tar kicked out of me on the regular.

Maybe I suck.

Despite lag and general beta-ness of the demo, I'm having a good time. Got Alius unlocked and am messing around with the middle difficulty. When you get on a good run, it is really awesome and looks cool, too. It's a good "show off" game.

The first update they release for this will likely determine if I keep playing. If they can tackle some (not all) of the issues like buffering and lag, consider me optimistic.

If the first update is lame... ehhh that's going to be something I remember.

Looks as if the first big update to the beta will be arriving in "early" May. Check out the tentative patch notes here. Highlights include:
  • Story mode playable up to the end of chapter 1.
  • Disconnect penalties and a option to concede the match gracefully.
  • Offside rule will be enabled. (yay!)
  • Saves can be transferred from Switch to other systems.
  • I'll quote this one: "The amount of data transmitted will be reduced to about 10%." Whatever that means.
There are a whole bunch of different things being tweaked and added, which looks promising. The UI updates in particular are a very welcome addition.

Also they are fixing this: "Fixed a bug where players do not actively go to retrieve the ball when it drops between them."

Didn't see the update post, but I did see the game update the other day. I played a bit and they did improve a bunch. Added a new character as well!

Offside rules are also very welcome.

What levels are your teams? I am in the low-20s and have a bunch of purple and gold spirits and one maxed spirit.

Ok, you faggots have peaked my curiosity. Can the ds games be emulated in a steamdeck without it being a mess or is the touch screen not negotiable?

Looking around it seemed possible, but the actual settings for making the touch screen aspect work were not shared publically so you would have to hunt that down or figure it out yourself.

Just play it on your computer with the mouse, to be honest. Or wait a few months and piratebuy the new game. It's supposed to have every major match of the series, so while you don't necessarily get the same experience, you also aren't going to be dealing with some of the original games' stupidity.

Also, any other questions you got about the series?

By all appearances? Not a downgrade at all.

-gameplay was updated pretty well for a console experience, with functional non-touch controls and a reworking of the main special ability system that makes the smaller challenges matter more thanks to TP being a team resource now instead of an individual resource
-new story mode takes full advantage of the console experience by all accounts, between improved maps, more ways to interact with characters, alternative combat systems, and more
-alternate story mode has you play through all the major games of the series, both to let newcomers not have to pay for six-twelve games and old fans play the classic matches with the new mechanics
-5200 playable characters, which gets the collector types happy

Of course, we won't know for sure until AFTER release, but I'm optimistic enough that I want to play it. That's a new one on me.

Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road Finally Has Release Date, Out On Switch 2 Day One

@Dammit Mandrake! - you like Inazuma Eleven. Do you like it so much you are willing to pay $70 for it?
Sorry got Stargate banned for a week again. Back now, maybe for the last time. <3

I was willing to pay 80 for a physical edition and am bummed it is digital-only.

Not at a glance, guess the biggest one is if the new game is a worthy successor or if it's a downgrade like most game franchises seem to be lately.
What I played of the beta was very fun. Put about 60 hours in on Switch. Online suffered due to connectivity. But otherwise I had a high-energy blast every time I played a match. I have since watched the first two seasons of the anime. It is cute, good for kids. And the game seems to faithfully handle that stuff as well.

Very optimistic for this one.
