India may get new name, local media say

A formal G20 dinner invitation issued by President Droupadi Murmu that refers to her as the “President of Bharat” rather than India has increased speculation on Tuesday that the Asian country could begin the process of changing its name as early as this month, local media has reported.

The invite, which has been widely cicrulated on social media along with the hashtag #PresidentOfBharat, has been issued to various world leaders to compel them to attend a dinner on Saturday at Bharat Mandapam convention center in New Delhi, the venue for the G20 summit on September 9 and 10.

“The word ‘India’ is an abuse given to us by the British whereas the word ‘Bharat’ is a symbol of our culture,” Harnath Singh Yadav of the Bharatiya Janata Party told the ANI news agency.

The speculation comes as India Today reported on Tuesday that a resolution to officially rename India as Bharat could be tabled by the government at a special parliamentary session scheduled for later this month. However, the agenda for the upcoming session has not yet been made public so it remains unclear if the proposal will be formally introduced.

The current language in its constitution refers to the country as “India, that is Bharat, shall be a union of states…” Some political figures have endorsed switching names, including Mohan Bhagwat of the right-wing nationalist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) political party, who has called on citizens to use the updated term.

The name Bharat is derived from Bharata; the name for India in several of the country’s languages, which itself comes from Hindu literature. Initially, Bharata referred to only a western region of the Gangetic Valley before it was more broadly used to describe the Indian subcontinent and the region of Greater India. The term Bharata was generally used interchangeably with ‘India.’

India is also sometimes known by a third name: Hindustan.

Other advocates for the switch have argued that the rumored constitutional change to a widely adopted, single indigenous name for the Asian country would bolster national pride, reinforce its heritage and distance itself from its history of colonial rule by Great Britain.

Critics, though, such as the Congress party leader Jairam Ramesh, have pushed back against the proposal, the saying that the move would in effect place India’s constitution “under assault.”

The h*ndus are right about m*slims

I am no fan of Islam, but Hinduism is a scourge upon the earth, as is the caste system. Areas of India that are more Muslim are cleaner in every way. Parts that are all Hindu are filthy and the people go uncared for when they are decrepit or maimed.

Can we please go back to calling the feathers Indians again?
We should go back to calling feather Indians red-skins to match poo-skin for dot Indians. Other suggestions should be the Hindi word for shit.

In seriousness though, a country's native name doesn't mean anything. Millions of people still call Myanmar "Burma", and no one calls Japan "Nihon", Germany "Deutschland" or France "Gaul". Even Brazil is spelled as "Brasil" but look at the spelling most English-language contexts use.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Christians and Muslims in India are least likely to adhere/identify with the caste system? Ironic I guess, since foreign religions seem to have a bit more humanity than one native to that shit-ridden nation.

Anyways, Pajeetland should look at taking care of their own ethnic/religious minorities before they complain about Anglo masters and other Europeans calling them India for god knows how long. They should also STFU about skin colour discrimination when their people treat dark-skinned Pajeets like shit (pun intended) compared to the Northern Pajeets with fair skin and more Eurocentric appearance.

Oh yes. It's only the Hindus who are big into caste, that's a huge part of their special culture! Christians and Muslims had an easy time converting some low caste people in India, because who wouldn't prefer the narrative "your soul can be saved and go to paradise" to "you have fucked up in a previous life and are akin to the shit on your betters' shoe and so too will be all your descendants," given the choice?

Genetic records show the caste system was a massive, massive success in the way that mattered most to its adherents: for over a thousand years, many castes maintained 99.8% or better in-caste reproduction. Hindus loathe Muslims and Christians for giving the servile, downtrodden masses some hope of a brighter future. All the Hindu movements use a brighter future as a carrot held by high-caste Indians to make low-caste ones properly servile, so telling people "you don't have to be special to go to paradise, just believe and follow these precepts" is anathema to the Brahmins who want to continue chillaxing for the next 500 generations while supported by underlings with no chance of overthrowing them.

Is it going to be Third World Shithole # (insert number here). No one really cares. It's still a third world shithole filled with ugly rapey shit skins that stink and shit on the streets.

The British should have dealt with any of the same way the Persians did it under the great king

Nader Shah

Just steal everything that's not nailed down and then raped a bunch of women

Demonym, shmemonym. They can call themselves "Bharat" all they want. But if I can call sausage-sucking dungeon fetishists "Germans" instead of muh Deutsch, I can call streetshitters streetshitters. I propose "Streetshitterstan" as the accepted exonym.

I never stopped.
Neither did they. Around here, the actual redskins call themselves Injuns, and don't give a shit. It's the 98% white 'first nations' grifters, who wouldn't look out of place in a Hitlerian propaganda poster, who are the ones who get offended over that.

There are plenty that prefer it.

Regardless of the media coverage there are a lot of Natives who want the Redskins changed back to the Redskins and the Indians changed back to the Indians.

The group most appeased by the name changes was white liberals.
Interesting. On a tangent, I've heard of East Asians who want to be called "yellow" again because America's definition of "Asian American" is too broad. It includes dark skinned Southeast Asians and South Asians; people who are otherwise called "Brown". I know a Cambodian who calls Chinks "yellow" because they see him as "brown".

EDIT: Some recent surveys show that many Asian Americans do not see themselves as "Asian", first and foremost but a specific Asian ethnicity or just "American". It's the white liberals I've seen against "yellow" b/c wacism (black and brown is okay though).

It will never stop being funny that it's always the liberal crackers that are against these labels.

I've seen feather Indians call themselves red-skin or Injun. I've seen dot Indians call themselves "brown", and I know Chinks who call themselves "yellow" or "Oriental" to separate themselves from browner gooks like the Filipinos. But all of is improper and should never be used in "formal" settings.

These second and third world shitholes changing their names is so tiresome

Myanmar is Burma
Turkiye is Turkey
Bharat is India

Deal with it you various shitskins and coconut niggers

Another fucking Turkiye or whatever the fuck it is. I swear Poo and Roach nationalists are the most retarded people you can encounter online.
You've obviously never had to suffer the average Alb*nian nationalist's schizo screed about how ancient Greeks and Romans were all actually secretly Illyrian and since Illyrians were Albanians it means that Albanians invented Western civilization. It makes the Nation of Islam almost seem sane by comparison.

Ultranationalists compensating for their country's current irrelevancy, issues or decline by going all in on pseudohistory is never not hilarious. They want some narrative of being a chosen, exceptional people and never understand the reality or refuse to accept that once upon a time the Romans had to answer to the Etruscans, which is to say different states and nations have their ups and downs historically and as long you're not truly dead you are doing better then most.
