The right has a major blind spot in terms of China. Mentioning anything remotely positive about them (even if you're not saying they're the good guys) brings out all the tophats and trashcans. Is your future going to be significantly better under the direction the west is going right now?

The ultimate result of this turning into a Second Great Depression is that socialism will be seen as fully vindicated. All that plenty you had under capitalism? Mere illusion, my friend. Now eat your protein bar like a good boy.

Also stop thinking of this as good vs evil. Did "evil win" when the various eras of Egyptian civilization collapse? Did evil win when Greece was conquered by Rome, or Rome got balkanized by migrating barbarian chiefdoms? How about the British Empire, did evil "win" when it collapsed? No.
If there is a God, He doesn't give a shit about your politics or your suffering. When a volcano explodes and nukes a town, God is dispassionate and lets events play out. If humanity nuked itself, God would be equally dispassionate and just shrug to say "sic transit gloria mundi". All too often we view the world as a battle of things we want to happen or value, vs things we do not wish upon ourselves or do not value. Nobody - least of all the creator of the universe or some confluence of morality - cares about what you like or dislike. If there is objective morality, then there is only good vs the absence of good - and in that perspective nothing is truly "evil". After all, if Rome never fell, then America would have never risen as it did. I'm not optimistic about America having any successor insofar as a free democratic society is concerned - maybe 1000 years from now some isolated space colony will find its own little bastion of "get the fuck off my lawn" - but ultimately it may just be our way of life has passed, and perhaps never was to begin with.

All things end. You're just a witness to this one. It's not "evil", just undesirable.

I'm not sure if it is socialism (at least genuine socialism) so much as it is wholesale wealth transfer done by those who are already a part of the ultra-wealthy, with pathetic bits and pieces of "socialism" offered as pennies to a beggar in order to keep the masses placated (which wouldn't be hard to do, since we seem to be getting much more ignorant and less educated every passing generation). If they even bother to enact it in the first place, UBI likely won't be enough to live off of, and I can easily see them only offering mere pittances bi-yearly, if that, just like how the recent $600 stimulus check was. They can't even pay out a viable SSI to those who are on it, as-is.

When I referred to evil, I meant those who were rigging the elections, thus those who are already in power. While this country may fall, they won't, and I guess the original "Why" was to try to understand why they would intentionally destroy their country for their own personal gain which in turn would likely be temporary, to the point that another country would take advantage of them and have a permanent hold over them (in our case, China; in Europe's case, those filthy Islamic apes)?

Military bases with troops from all over America, led by career officers who are more interested in going from O3 pay grade to O4 than anything else. So what's going to happen? National guard surrounds the military bases? Okay, let's say that happens and the federal troops get the hell out of there - and maybe there's some defections too. Okay, smart guy, what next? Gonna invade neighboring states? Gonna wait for the federal government to come reclaim the state capitol by force? This ain't 1860, they'll be there within a week. What's the plan here?

If universal healthcare, guaranteed income, guaranteed housing (coming soon!), and guaranteed access to food (also coming soon!) are not socialism, then what is? Just because megacorps are allowed to exist? You think USSR didn’t have these kind of private-public companies?

Also the “why” is pretty simple. The political elite have always dreamed of thr perfect worker caste, and they feel automation and AI will give it to them (personally I’m not optimistic and think fully robotic labor is a complete meme). So the previous worker caste - with which they've had to compromise so much over the past few centuries - must be sterilized and smothered until dead. And no, this is not a planned conspiracy - any more than the rise of feudalism after Rome's fall was preplanned, or the slow annihilation of Feudalism and absolute monarchy during the Late Medieval to early Industrial periods was preplanned (as an aside, fuck Marx and his historical determinism; history is a river with a weak current, not a script for his political utopia). There is no plan here. Sure, the elites and futurists try to make one; but their plans are going to be just as successful as anyone else's - not very. They don't have complete information, and can't predict everything. So this future is an unconscious goal and only semi-conscious movement towards that goal. The political class has certain likes and dislikes, and it's fairly easy to read what their ideal utopia would look like (everyone is a philosopher king with a small army of robot serfs to do all work for them, so they can devote everything to leisure and learning); just as it's easy to read the common working class's ideal political world (no gods no kings, get the fuck off my property). Neither is going to get fully what they want, and in every century past they've had to compromise. Little by little it went the way of the working class. Now, with access to more information and raw power to control events than ever before, the pendulum swings HARD towards the political caste and they immediately leap towards their unconscious endgame. If you want my prediction of how all this will end, we see a near-complete demographic collapse outside Africa and the Middle East (who really never left warlordism), and the elites are left with robots that can certainly pick a field of rice very well; but are just philosophical zombies and suck at anything requiring creativity. Society and culture stagnates, and the warlord barbarians take over while China fucks off with what's left of its elite classes to space. That's a very loose prediction, but that's basically how it'll go in the best of circumstances.

You want a restoration of freedom and democracy? Fuck you, that required a government without facial recognition AI and total control of the industrial/financial systems. You're a walking corpse as far as history is concerned.

Something I'm curious about is what would happen if a natural disaster fucks over China like Chernobyl did with the USSR?

Like, with climate change fucking up the weather patterns bit by bit every year, what would happen to the "managed decline of the West" if something severe like Three Gorges Dam bursting in the 2020's or a Chinese equivalent of the 2011 earthquakes that led to Fukushima were to happen within the decade? What happens then?

I doubt any of these things will happen, by the way. I'm just curious if the bigwigs had any contingencies in a scenario where China is no longer a fallback.

A more serious issue for China is general pollution and overfishing of the entire world's fish stocks. You know how every nature documentary bemoans shark fin soup or massive fishing trawlers? It's all China. All of it. Meat consumption is viewed as a mark of status the world over, and as China's middle class grows they'll only want more and more of it. EVENTUALLY (read not soon) the government will heavily restrict "wasteful meat consumption" via social credit scores, but even that might not be enough to stop it.
So basically when China drives fish stocks to extinction, it's everyone's problem and tragedy of the commons applies so China can get away with it scott free by blaming everyone else. You must eat the bugs so China can eat the salmon.
