But to answer your question, Atlanta is massive. Different states have different vote counting laws and different resources to do it. People need sleep, too. It's really not a tough concept.

Also there is this concept called shifts where a different set of people take over when a group has worked a number of hours. There is no reason why many urban precincts needed to suddenly shut down in the middle of counting during the last election using the same lame excuse that the workers needed their beauty rest. They had years in advance to prepare, knowing it was going to be like this and they just close up shop once again in the middle of the job and people just shrug? Its extreme incompetence at best.

If you have 10x the population, then you should have 10x the beancounters and not drag things out weeks after everyone else is done.
