I was with you until the end. The Democrats did not deliberately fuck themselves: they have demographics on their side, everything else is just gravy. The Republicans are the ones who fuck themselves over. If migrants voted 51% in favor of Republicans, the borders would be sealed off tighter than a drum. You’d see ICE raids everywhere. Instead Republicans eagerly and willingly handed over power. The current GOP leadership is fine with this.

It was a common assumption after 2012 that no Republican would ever get to be President. From the time Dave Brat unexpectedly unseated Eric Cantor to the time Trump got annihilated on the spring 2018 omnibus where populist items not only not received funding but were specifically blocked from it, the GOP had to shift to more populism. So from 2014 to 2018, there might have been a fighting chance but it’s gone. The rally today is just the last gasps of the GOP dinosaur. Something may emerge from it but nobody in the party today is capable of doing so and that’s by design. That includes Trump by the way.

Your claims of new world order on the horizon take a bit of leap of faith, but anyone can look into marine wildlife consumption and overfishing as well as the shoddy way China likes to farm and find a trove of statistics on the stuff.

This planet has hung on so far but now that you suddenly have hundreds of millions of new status and luxury seekers with money things are sounding really scary, and what's really bullshit is that countries like the US are expected to sacrifice or take some of the brunt for China's appetite. For example, the vast majority of poached elephant ivory ends up in China. They're almost entirely responsible for the killing off of wild elephants and almost no new ivory comes into the US, yet in some states they want to ban the sale of antique ivory that's been in the country for decades, and even fucking mammoth ivory. Then of course there's the fact that they're massive polluters and any sort of action taken against climate change in the US or Europe will do little because of this.

They don't care about sustainability, so what's their plan once they fucked this planet beyond hope? Space? Will distant alien civilizations in the future be invaded by menacing little yellow men from Earth?
