I'm not even convinced that 200m people have even heard of the Intellivision.
Considering it was second or third to Atari and Colecovision, its just sad how its its trying to be relevant while destroying whatever legacy it had.

I think the Magnavox Odyssey 2 has a better legacy now after this Amico fiasco.

It probably went like this:
  • Intellivision was a thing in the 80's. Came and went just like the Atari once the video game crash happened. People soon forgot about it
  • AVGN blows up in popularity. Does a video on the Intellivision, people now have the machine in mind because "hahah funny man ripped it apart"
  • These guys try to revive the Intellivision, majority of AVGN watchers/fans goes "member berries" and want to revive this thing as if they actually gave a shit about it in the first place.
  • Other half are probably hipster faggots that ruin everything and latch onto the retro train and act like they were "really in it from the start" just like when the NES/SNES mini came out.

It's a video by some dumbass Intellivision fan saying how the Amico will be the greatest console ever.

Well he definitely sounds like he's on the spectrum.

I don't think Amico ever had any chance beyond a niche product for nostalgia nerds. Not enough people care about Intellivision and the Amico isn't remarkable enough to get enough new people on board. The concept isn't bad. But I feel like they went way beyond the scope of what this project should have been.

And I'd say that's optimistic, even. The only time this thing had a snowball's chance in Hell of getting any ground was back when the Ouya was new, and it could have branded itself as an indie microconsole. Yeah, microconsole, remember that word?

But, the time has passed, and the novelty of an indie game console has been thoroughly worn through and discarded. There's nothing that sets it apart from the rest. Nothing. If it were magically released tomorrow, it would sell to some of Tommy's simps, a scant smattering of confused people nostalgic for the '79 Intellivision, but mostly to YouTubers. I could see the main demographic of this seriously being middle/high school aged kids with under 1000 subs, just buying it to review and riff on, with hopes that their video will catch on. Which, frankly, is the best reason to buy such a thing.

I think it was made to be a money laundering scam from Day 1.

Going back to the early days of the Amico, a lot of the more cautious commentators said something along the lines of “if anyone can make this happen, it’s Tommy Tallarico.” No doubt a lot of people making this claim were just acknowledging Tallarico’s status, but I do wonder why anyone bothered to make it in the first place. It’s not like we had any evidence that Tallarico’s talent as a composer would translate to a business venture of this sort. It would be like thinking John Williams (waaaaaay more talented than Tommy) could run a movie studio.

If the Odyssey 2 had a better keyboard, and some kind of serial i/o, it would have made a splash in both the console and home computer market, even before Apple. Sobering thought, eh?

It was a cool system spec wise but it didn't have the games to attract buyers . When Philips/Magnavox they did have a game that could attract people, KC Munckin, they got hit with a lawsuit and had to pull the game off the market. They did have some interested board game/video game hybrids that was pretty interesting though.

Trademark For Intellivision Amico Has Been Abandoned

In the latest sign that the Intellivision Amico is unlikely to ever release, its trademark has now been marked as "abandoned" by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. As reported by VGC, the trademark was originally filed by Intellivision Entertainment on October 19th, 2018 and subsequently accepted on September 24th, 2019. As per trademark guidelines, an application will be marked as abandoned if the applicant has either not filed a 'Statement of Use' or requested an extension on the trademark within six months of the approval.

Intellivision first requested an extension on the trademark on May 11th, 2020. This was then followed by an additional three extension requests, the latest of which was approved on November 18th, 2021. An abandonment notice was then filed on June 21st, 2022 after Intellivision's failure to submit a fifth extension request.

Intellivision now has two months from the date of abandonment to file a 'petition to revive' if it hopes to retain the trademark, though its inability to request any further extensions could perhaps be the clearest sign so far that the troubled console will likely never be released commercially. Just last month, Intellivision raised a few eyebrows when it confirmed that staff would be significantly cut in order to help the console across the finish line. It also confirmed that such drastic steps has meant that some customers' refund requests would be delayed due to the reduced staff and financing requirements needed to continue operations.

Welp. Amico? More like Ami-go away.

The trademark for the Intellivision Amico is once again live on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website. It looks like rather than request a further extension on the existing trademark, Intellivision has instead opted to file for a brand new one as of June 30th, 2022.

As reported by IGN, Intellivision's CEO also states that the company "is still working on the console" and that the United States Patent and Trademark Office website "is usually pretty slow in updating".
Stubbornly holding onto that cope, eh, Intellivision? I'd be more surprised if this actually DID make it to shelves than if it didn't.
