It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

BBC: Iran expands dog-walking ban
Iranian officials have expanded a ban on dog walking to a swathe of cities across the country, citing public order and health and safety concerns.

The ban - which mirrors a 2019 police order that barred dog walking in the capital, Tehran - has been extended to at least 18 other cities in the past week. Transporting dogs in vehicles has also been outlawed.

Dog ownership has been frowned upon in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, with dogs viewed as "unclean" by authorities and a legacy of Western cultural influence.

But despite efforts to discourage it, dog ownership is rising, particularly among young people, and it is viewed as a form of rebellion against the restrictive Iranian regime...

Dyer couple accused of engaging in sex act at dance recital

A Dyer couple has been charged with public indecency after getting caught fondling each other’s genitals in front of young children during a dance recital at Lake Central High School Saturday afternoon.

School staff at around 4:30 p.m. June 14 alerted an officer working event security to the couple, who were sitting in the auditorium’s second level, according to court records. The officer — along with the people that included small children sitting around them — saw the man and woman each had their hands down each other’s unbuttoned pants, though neither’s genitals were visible, the affidavit said.

The officer approached the two without them noticing him and asked them to leave the theater, which they did after buttoning their pants, court records said. They ran out of the school and proceeded to try and leave, but officers surrounded their SUV, records said.

The man, identified as Steven M. Ulman, handed an officer his driver’s license, but the woman, later identified as Carly Ann Dominski, gave officers a different name before officers went through her purse, records said. Dominski, officers discovered, has active warrants for false informing, identity deception and unlawful possession of a syringe, records said.

Dominski is charged with public indecency and false reporting, both Class A misdemeanors; while Ulman was charged with public indecency. Ulman will appear for an initial hearing July 8.

California nudist accused of killing neighbors and drowning their dog over hot dog 'jab' 🌭🌭🌭

A California nudist is accused of killing his neighbors, chopping them up and drowning their Shih Tzu after they allegedly mocked him with a $1 hot dog, according to authorities and local reporting.

Redlands Police announced the arrest of Michael Sparks, 62, last August – five days after his neighbors went missing.

They found the suspect at his home in Olive Dell Ranch, billed as a "family friendly" RV park and a reputed Southern California nudist resort. A cadaver dog alerted police to a bunker underneath the home, where they recovered two bodies, dismembered, mutilated and stored in plastic bags.

The victims were Daniel Menard, 79, who suffered from dementia, and his 73-year-old wife, Stephanie.

Investigators had to evacuate the scene because they feared it might cave in. They returned with heavy equipment to excavate and collect more evidence.

Redlands Police Chief Rachel Tolber told reporters last year that Sparks tried to shoot himself before his capture, but the gun misfired.

The dog, Cuddles, remains unaccounted for.

At Sparks' preliminary hearing this week, Redlands Detective Thomas Williams testified that he shared details about the slayings with a jailhouse snitch, who alerted authorities, according to the Press Telegram.

"He said Mr. Sparks told him the incident started over a hot dog that Daniel Menard had purchased for him," Williams told the court, according to the paper. "He said Mr. Sparks felt that the hot dog was a jab at him, making him feel like he was worth only a dollar hot dog, and that’s what set him off that day."

Sparks is accused of using a rake, a garden hoe and a hammer to beat his neighbors to death before dismembering them and hiding the bodies in plastic bags in his bunker. The informant also claimed he admitted to drowning Cuddles and leaving her remains for coyotes to eat.

Eleven witnesses testified at the hearing, according to court documents, and evidence included crime scene photos as well as texts between Sparks and three witnesses.

In one photo, photographed in court by the Press Telegram, Sparks allegedly wrote to a friend, "Chopped up my neighbors. Didn't know I had it in me. SNAPPED."

During a standoff before Sparks' arrest, responding officers asked him where the Menards were and if they needed help, according to the paper.

"He replied back that they were in pieces," Detective Williams testified.

Other witnesses said that Sparks did not get along with the Menards.

They had alleged disputes over a noisy backup generator, tree trimming and the hot dog.

Sparks faces two counts of murder and an animal cruelty charge. He pleaded not guilty at an earlier proceeding and is being held without bail.

Judge Alexander Martinez denied a defense motion to keep cameras out of the courtroom. Sparks is due back in court on June 27 for an arraignment.

It's been 10 years then we got same-sex marriage and one article wondered if it's a good idea?

What’s Really Wrong With Same-Sex Marriage

By Tom G.K. Swift

On the 10th anniversary of Obergefell v. Hodges (federally mandating “marriage equality”), it’s proper to ask whether same-sex marriage is a good idea. One reason to think that it’s not is the existence of an epistemic oddity, an oddity which strongly undermines any argument for same-sex marriage (hereafter “SSM”). The oddity in question is characterized by what may be called an "underdetermination asymmetry."

Start with the following very simple observation.

There are two ultimate positions in the SSM debate, and only two. On the one hand, there’s love or care as the basis of marriage, as in the view of SSM’s supporters. On the other hand, there’s procreation as the basis of marriage, as in the view of traditional marriage’s defenders. Any apparent exceptions will turn out to be folded into either love or procreation -- for example, commitment, which is parasitic on love and/or procreation. (I’ll henceforth ignore care -- the radical marriage reformers’ favorite criterion of intimate personal relationships -- because it cashes out similarly to love.)

I guess he was inspired from Dustin Hoffman in a scene from the movie Midnight Cowboy. :story:
Fun fact, the original version of that scene was completely improvised, because they had no license to film and shut down streets like current Hollywood studios, so Hoffman actually nearly did get bodied by a car.

The scene was so good they redid it that way.

Also Midnight Cowboy is one of the best films of all time.

GASTONIA, N.C. (WSOC) – A North Carolina store clerk is recovering after he was shot in the arm Friday, but his injuries could have been much worse if his reflexes weren’t as fast.

Scottie Floyd looked almost like a superhero, dodging a bullet from a gun almost in his face.

“I thank God. It was God,” he said.

Floyd actually opened the door for the man who nearly took his life at the Jacob’s Food Mart on Marietta Street in Gastonia.

At the time, Floyd did not know the man had a gun. However, he did notice the man kept his sunglasses and a hoodie pulled over his head.

“I knew the guy was up to something, you know, and that probably saved my life too,” Floyd said.

Floyd said the man did not demand money from him or make a threat. Instead, he asked for CBD cigarette products.

“When I seen the silver of the gun, I knew what he was doing,” Floyd said.

The bullet ended up lodged in Floyd’s forearm, breaking two bones, but fortunately, did not go any further.

“Oh, he’d have shot me dead between the eyes,” Floyd said.

Quickly, Floyd had ducked down behind the store’s counter. He said the suspect tried to shoot again, but the gun failed.

Still, Floyd said he was afraid the man was going to come behind the counter and keep shooting.

Instead, the suspect ran.

Police said he took off for Forest City, located about 40 miles west.

Officials said the suspect shot and nearly killed another man at a downtown event that same day.

Christian Campbell was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill. He is waiting on new charges in Gastonia.

“Prosecute him to the full extent of the law,” Floyd said. “Because he didn’t, he didn’t have no regard for my life. He tried to take my life.”

In his 21 years as a store clerk, Floyd said he never felt the need for a gun. He now plans to get one.
