It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

Guns N' Roses Sues Online Gun Store

ByFred Shuster, City News Service
Dec 2, 2022

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Guns N' Roses sued an online gun store called Texas Guns and Roses for unspecified damages Thursday, alleging in Los Angeles federal court that the seller is attempting to con consumers into believing that the website is associated with the rock band.
The lawsuit, obtained by City News Service, alleges that Texas company Jersey Village Florist operates the online store texasgunsandroses.com -- selling firearms, ammunition, scopes and body armor through the mail -- "without GNR's approval, license or consent."
The plaintiffs allege that Jersey Village Florist "selected and adopted defendant's marks for the purpose of confusing consumers into believing that it was connected or associated with, or licensed by, GNR."
Lawyers for Guns N' Roses further allege that the defendant purports to sell roses and other flowers as a contrivance to try and justify the "wholesale appropriation" of the Guns N' Roses trademark. However, Jersey Village Florist does not sell flowers on the Houston-based guns and ammunition website, the lawsuit says.
David L. Clark, a Houston attorney representing Jersey Village Florist, said that while he has not seen the complaint, it appears that GNR's lawyers have filed in federal court because their attempts to persuade the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board to cancel texasgunsandroses.com's registration is likely to fail.

It's not particularly far-fetched as Lanham Act cases go in general, or dilution claims specifically (which this is). The store name literally incorporates their entire mark other than the de minimis change of substituting "and" for the stylized "'n'" in "Guns 'n' Roses."

If they want to keep their trademark at all, they are more or less forced to act on this.

Bethel police release video images of pot robber

pot.jpg
Bethel Police Department has released images from a in-store video camera that show the armed robber of the AlaskaBud cannabis store in Bethel, which may give Bethel residents a clue as to the suspect’s identity.

The suspect is wearing a “Res Alaska” jacket. Res Alaska is a renewable energy company out of Fairbanks. The suspect also has on a “AK” beanie style hat. The suspect has a distinct gait, police said, possibly due to a limp. The duffle bag he carried has a camouflage pattern on it.

Update: Police say the man is left-handed. Only 10% of the population is left-handed.

In the original press release, police speculated that the jerky movements of the man made it appear he may have been intoxicated.

The store was hit on Monday night by a lone gunman with an M-16-style firearm, who fired several shots. One shot ricocheted off the floor and hit the counter, after which two employees at the counter fled, as the man shot at them several times, but missed. One of the shots went through the wall and hit a third employee hiding behind the wall.

The robber fled the store in an unknown direction on a snow machine.

The Bethel Police Department is looking for help from the community in establishing the identity of the suspect. Those with any information may call: 907-543-3781.

Sky News commentator Kosha Gada says US state-funded education systems are going to see an “exodus” of the “academically-minded people”.
Could we said then nothing of value was lost?

Meanwhile Michael Avenatti should be more careful with the soap bar.
Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Remember that smug lawyer by the name of Michael Avenatti?

You know, that guy that the liberal media used to fawn over in hopes that he’d bury President Donald Trump?

Yeah, that never happened.

In fact, Avenatti was sentenced to two and a half years in prison last year for trying to extort Nike.

Following that, he was sentenced to an additional four years for stealing book proceeds from Stormy Daniels, his former client.

Apparently, things just got worse for him.

Avenatti was just sentenced to an additional 14 years in prison for tax evasion and for stealing MILLIONS of dollars from his clients.

Matt Taibbi kicks a bunch of ass in a debate: "Don't Trust Mainstream Media".

Public trust in mainstream media is at an all-time low. Critics point to coverage of COVID-19, the 2020 election, and the Ottawa trucker protest as proof that legacy outlets like the New York Times, The Globe and Mail and CNN can no longer be relied upon to provide unbiased reporting. Activist journalists are using pen and paper to push political agendas while their bosses lean into the profitability of polarization. Mainstream media’s defenders argue that their institutions offer an invaluable public service that alternative outlets are either incapable or uninterested in providing: careful fact-based reporting on important issues and holding the powerful to account. In a brave new world of “fake news” and “drive by” journalism, traditional news organizations are essential to democracy and a bulwark against corruption, misinformation and the private interests of the powerful.

Stuck kitten rescued from pipe in California

Animal rescuers in California came to the assistance of a kitten that stuck its head into a pipe and got stuck on a closing flange.

Riverside County Animal Services said off-duty officer Christopher Peck was at his home on standby duty when a call came in about a kitten stuck in a pipe.

Peck grabbed a pipe-cutting tool from his home and responded to the scene in Woodcrest, where he found the kitten had stuck its head into the pipe and got stuck in a closing flange.

The officer used his tool to shorten the pipe and brought the kitten to a nearby shelter, where veterinarians were able to remove it from the remainder of the pipe.

The kitten, named Piper by shelter staff, is now available for adoption from Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley.
