It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

The cop who killed Ashli Babbitt was put up in Air Force temporary lodging for four months. On Veterans Day or the day after, he was moved to distinguished visitor (general officer) quarters for the next two months. I assume he was scared insurrectionists were going to hunt him down and hang him next to Mike Pence.

Paris once again enjoy the fruits of diversity with a stabbing attack at the Gare du Nord station.

Paris — A knife attacker wounded six people in an unprovoked attack in Paris' busy Gare du Nord train station Wednesday morning before being shot by police, the French interior minister said, praising the swift intervention of police that he said had helped prevent fatalities. The knifeman attacked several people, including a police officer, with a "bladed weapon" during the morning rush hour at around 6:43 a.m., Gerald Darmanin, the interior minister, told reporters at the scene, flanked by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.

Darmanin said the unnamed assailant was currently "between life and death" in a hospital. French media reported that he was shot in the chest.

Darmanin thanked the police "for their effective and courageous reaction."

16 years for Chicago man who carjacked a driver so he could get to court for a stolen car case

16 years for Chicago man who carjacked a driver so he could get to court for a stolen car case

Chicago — A Chicago man who allegedly carjacked a driver because he needed to get to court for a pending stolen motor vehicle case has been sentenced to a combined 16 years in prison. But he’ll be released after serving less than seven years.

Edward Fleming, 22, was charged with possessing a stolen motor vehicle in January 2020 after police said he was driving a stolen Ford Fusion with a ski mask on his head and a “Friday the 13th”-style “Jason” mask in the back seat. He was released on his own recognizance.

The following month, prosecutors said, Fleming and two juveniles lured a Joliet man into a carjacking trap so Fleming could get to his court appearance within the hour.

The hijacking victim, 22, told police he drove to West Pullman around 8 a.m. to meet with a woman he found via a dating app. When he arrived, a 14-year-old girl directed him to another location, where Fleming allegedly pointed a gun at him and racked its slide. A 17-year-old male punched the victim in the face, and the entire group took the man’s phone, keys, and car.

Fleming was due in court at 9 a.m. that morning. But he didn’t make it.

That’s because, at 8:44 a.m., Chicago police spotted him as he parked the hijacked Nissan Altima less than a block from the 111th Street courthouse, a complex that also houses the Chicago Police Department’s Calumet (5th) District police station and Area South police headquarters.

Officers said they could see a handgun lying in the open inside the car, a weapon that was stolen in south suburban Lynwood, according to a police report.

Fleming has now pleaded guilty to armed robbery without a weapon, which was reduced from armed robbery with a firearm in the hijacking case. Prosecutors dropped six other felonies, and he received a 14-year sentence from Judge Thomas Hennelly. By pleading guilty to armed robbery without a weapon instead of armed robbery with a firearm, Fleming avoided a 15-year sentencing enhancement.

In the stolen motor vehicle case, prosecutors allowed Fleming to plead guilty to a reduced charge of theft in exchange for a two-year sentence to be served consecutively, according to court records.

He is receiving credit for two years and 293 days spent in custody before sentencing, a discretionary credit of 519 days, and a 50% sentence reduction for good behavior. Records from the Illinois Department of Corrections show Fleming is scheduled to be paroled on September 18, 2026, six years and seven months after the carjacking.

A North Kamloops woman targeted in a bizarre home invasion on Tuesday says she still can’t believe what happened.

Police said they were called to a residence in the 600-block of Fortune Drive at about 7:45 p.m. for a report of a break-in followed by an assault — a beating that left the would-be burglar with serious injuries.

Castanet Kamloops has agreed not to name the woman targeted in the break-in because she fears for her safety. She said she lives in a basement suite and heard banging from the unit above her on Tuesday evening.

“I just thought, ‘OK, he’s breaking stuff, that’s fine,’ but then I start seeing my whole ceiling flexing,” she said of her upstairs neighbour.

“And before I know it he busted through my ceiling.”

She said the man began throwing tools through the hole, then pushed an auger through.

“A big, huge, sharp auger,” she said. “And then he dropped through my ceiling.”

The woman described a frenzied scene. She said the intruder landed on top of her 26-year-old son’s bike.

“He got tangled up but then he jumped up and came at us with the auger,” she said.

“I was trying to stay out of the way of this auger and my son is trying to push him away and get him out of the way, but he wouldn’t stop. My son wrestled with him to get that auger.”

The woman said she fled the suite. From outside, she could hear her son fighting with the man.

“I could hear him screaming, ‘Get out of my house, get out of my house,’” she said.

“I had called 911, and before the police got here my son had managed to drag this guy up the stairs and outside and was pushing him away.”

The woman said the intruder “just wouldn’t stay down.”

“He kept getting up and running at him and trying to come again and again to keep fighting,” she said.

“All the neighbours were out screaming and yelling, telling them to stop, telling him to stay down, to not move.”

According to the woman, the intruder ran when police showed up. She said he was arrested at gunpoint.

Mounties said the break-in suspect was taken to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries while the assailant police referred to earlier — the woman's son — was arrested and released, pending the results of the RCMP investigation.

Police said they could not provide any further details about the incident.

The woman said the break-in has left her shaken.

“Who goes through a roof like that?” she said.

“The RCMP were blown away with it. They were standing under the hole looking at it with their flashlights like, ‘How did he do this?’”

The woman said she’s been in touch with her landlord, who promised “an immediate eviction” for the intruder and safety upgrades.

She said she had no real issues with her upstairs neighbour prior to the break-in. She said she didn’t get much rest on Tuesday night thanks to the hole in her ceiling.

“I got no sleep,” she said. “Every noise, I was scared he was coming back.”

The police investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: 10:14 a.m.

It’s too early to say whether vigilantism is behind a beating Tuesday that landed a would-be burglar in hospital with serious injuries, according to police.

Mounties said they were called to a residential complex in the 600-block of Fortune Drive at about 7:45 p.m. for a report of a break-in followed by an assault.

RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said the altercation began “inside a residence” and moved outside. She said the break-in suspect was taken to hospital with serious injuries and the assault suspect was arrested and released, pending the outcome of the police investigation.

Castanet Kamloops asked Evelyn whether the altercation was a case of vigilantism.

“It’s too early to say that,” she said.

“The motive behind the assault and the role of the person in this situation is part of the investigation.”

Evelyn said the burglary suspect suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She said she could not say whether a weapon was used, because that is also part of the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.

Dog rescued from train tracks in British Columbia

Transit workers in Vancouver, British Columbia, came to the rescue of a dog that ended up on the train tracks when its leash became stuck in the closing doors.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police said in a Twitter post that the dog, named Mosha, was boarding a Canada Line train with her owner in Vancouver's South Cambie neighborhood when the train doors closed on the leash with the canine still outside.

The post said Mosha was thrown into the guideway. The canine was not injured, but was frightened and ran on the tracks into a tunnel.

"Canada Line staff immediately shut down the trains," Constable Amanda Steed of the Metro Vancouver Transit Police told CTV News. "They powered down the tracks, went into the tunnel on foot and searched for the dog."

Mosha was located after about 70 minutes of searching. She was dirty but not seriously injured.

Police said the dog was safely reunited with her owner.

Chance The Rapper Defends Dave Chappelle's Involvement In Ghana's Black Star Line Festival After Criticism

Chance The Rapper came to Dave Chappelle’s defense when opening up about the Black Star Line Festival in Ghana.

The festival, held on January 6 and organized by Chance and rapper Vic Mensa, marked “a celebration of art, culture and unity in the Black community” and caused backlash following Chappelle’s comedy set, as HotNewHipHop reported.

During the festival, the comedian mentioned the LGBTQ community, which some didn’t take lightly given Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ bill, which has significant political support.

While recently speaking with Rolling Stone about the Black Star Line Festival, Chance The Rapper defended Chappelle’s inclusion, noting the comedian meant no harm by his comments.

“I think it’s something that Dave was actually shining a light on,” the “No Problem” rapper said. “That’s where that conversation came from. Dave was making a comment about the comedy scene in Ghana when he said, ‘I bet gay jokes go over so well here,’ to which everybody laughed about. And he was making a point to say that in Ghana, you can make jokes about things that are about gay people, about trans people, about a lot of social constructs, just about anything in the world. But you can’t make a comment about the government there. That’s not funny and that’s not respected, and it can be dangerous. It’s the complete opposite where we come from, where we can speak about the government all we want.”

He added, “I can’t really all the way speak for Dave. I don’t want to say what he thinks or what he feels, but what I think I know about him is that he loves everybody, especially his people, meaning Black people, meaning Black people that are trans, Black people that are gay, Black people that are gender non-conforming, people period. And I think that in that space, I would say I don’t believe that he bashed trans people or gay people at all throughout the entire conversation.”

Over the past several years, Chappelle has continued to attract controversy for his remarks about LGBTQ people, which has consistently drawn ire in his Netflix stand-up era.
