It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

Escaped ram captured after more than a week in Maine

A ram on the lam for more than a week in Maine was finally captured by a team of volunteers.

The Cape Elizabeth Police Department initially said last week that a ram had been on the loose for several days after being transported to the mainland from Richmond Island to graze.

Police said in a follow-up Facebook post that the ram was spotted in the Two Lights area over the weekend, leading the department to place wool in open areas so the ram would think there were other sheep nearby.

The post said a team of volunteers was then able to locate the ram and safely capture him using a tranquilizer gun.

Police said the ram is now being kept safely contained and will return to Richmond Island in November.

Man dies from asthma attack on flight after dropping his inhaler

A British man died earlier this week after he allegedly dropped his inhaler during an asthma attack less than an hour before his flight landed in New York.

Shimoin Brauer, 25, of London, fell unconscious on Monday morning when he panicked and his inhaler slipped from his fingers about 45 minutes before his flight was set to land in New York, Jewish News reported.

The crew initially attempted to give him oxygen because they were unaware his airways had closed due to an asthma attack, the outlet said, citing a member of Brauer’s Orthodox Jewish community in Stamford Hill.

The crew also attempted CPR, but were unable to save the passenger’s life.

Brauer was traveling to the US to volunteer at a summer camp, Jewish News said.
An investigation into the incident is reportedly ongoing.

About 10 people in the US die from asthma every day, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

The long-term condition, which causes swelling of the airways, can be easily triggered by common allergens like dust and pet dander.
This is mostly of interest because I thought the guy was a photoshop at first:

First dog in history to be ‘cancelled’: Rescue pup faces Pride Month

Author Jonathan Miller explains the story of how his rescue puppy Bella became the first dog in history to be “cancelled” as companies mark Pride Month in June. Mr Miller said he received an email from GPS-tracker company Tractive suggesting he buy a rainbow flag cover for his furry friend’s device cover. “I rather grumpily wrote to Tractive in Austria and I said, why don’t you just concentrate on tracking dogs and cease the virtue signalling,” he told Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan. “I got a reply that said, thank you for your email – we’ve cancelled your subscription to Tractive so you can no longer track your dog.” Mr Miller added however, “all’s well that ends well” as the company’s CEO sent an email humbly apologising for the cancellation following media backlash.

I hope the employee who got his rainbow panties in a twist over this got fired. In the video it's stated that said employee did not have the authority to cancel the subscription.

Jonathan Miller makes a very good point here. We have one day for veterans and an entire month for Pride. It makes no sense.

I'm so glad June is over today and I don't need to hear about Pride until next year.

He smoked the previous record holder.

A French “human torch” set two Guinness World Records on fire Thursday after he ran across the finish line while engulfed in flames.

Firefighter Jonathan Vero, 39, was licked by intense flames and deprived of oxygen for the entirety of this 272.25-meter (893 ft) dash around a track in his hometown Haubourdin, a commune 138 miles northwest of Paris.

The lightning-fast run was 68.02 meters longer than the previous record for the longest distance full body burn run without oxygen, according to Guinness World Records.

Vero also smashed the record for the fastest full body burn 100 m sprint without oxygen, clocking in at 17 seconds, beating the previous record by 7.58 seconds.

“This performance has a lot of meaning for me, for my job as a firefighter and for the people who trained me and watched me grow,” Vero said.
Frenchmen are evolving to adapt to their environment, it seems.

According to Oriental Daily, a kindergarten teacher by the name of Huang in Wuhan, Hubei has risen to fame after posting a video of herself singing and teaching a nursery rhyme.

As she has attractive features and uses cutesy gestures, her video garnered more than 100 million views and quickly established her fan base.

In a short period of time, she amassed more than 4 million followers. After much pushing from her fans, she finally did her first live stream. Tens of thousands of fans flooded into her channel and every second, someone was sending her gifts.

“I am so happy and excited. Doing this stream in a day led me to earn more than 10 years of salary. Thank you guys.”

She then resigned from her job and decided to pursue a career in live-streaming.

Business as usual in Philadelphia.

A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with two weapons opened fire on the streets of Southwest Philadelphia Monday night, killing five people and wounding a toddler and teenager, police said. A suspect is in custody.

"We have absolutely no idea why this happened," Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said during a late Monday night news conference. "This person decided to leave their home and target individuals."

The shooting spree began around 8:30 p.m. on 56th and Chester streets in the Kingsessing neighborhood when officers were flagged down in response to reports of gunfire in the area.
No need to imagine a parody of Springsteen's song "Streets of Philadelphia" titled "Shootings of Philadelphia".

“Her lawsuit’s goal was to force the state of California and the fish and wildlife authority to take sightings seriously and investigate them properly, rather than just say, ‘It was a bear,’” he said. “The goal was to get them to do real investigation and research.

“Right up until the very end, she believed in what she saw and she wanted to help other people who had experienced something similar,” Brown said, adding, “The community — regardless of anyone’s views — has lost someone who was willing to stand up and fight for their beliefs. The Bigfoot community lost a soldier.”

Colorado tree trimmer rescues cat stuck in tree for several days

Animal rescuers in Colorado called in a tree trimming service for help rescue a kitten stranded for several days in a tree.

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region said its Pueblo Animal Law Enforcement team received a call recently from a family who reported their 4-month-old kitten, Aurora, had been stuck high up in a tree.

"The family did everything they could to get her down, but now Aurora was showing signs of exhaustion and crying out for help. The rescue couldn't wait much longer," the humane society said in a Facebook post.

The team contacted first responders, but they were told ladder trucks would not be able to reach the kitten due to the tree's location.

Animal law enforcement ended up contacting a tree trimming service.

"They sent an employee out, who ascended the tree with special spikes and gear. They were able to safely secure Aurora and bring her down to her family," the post said.

"The daughter had a bowl of water and food ready for Aurora once her paws were on the ground, and it was a celebratory and happy reunion for all!"
