It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

Bodies of eleven babies found stashed in the ceiling of an abandoned Detroit funeral home.

The remains of 11 babies were discovered Friday above the ceiling of a shuttered funeral home in Detroit, police said.

Officials with a state regulatory agency found the tiny bodies in a cardboard box and casket hidden above a first-floor ceiling at the Cantrell Funeral Home after receiving an anonymous letter that contained the exact location of the remains.

"They're very small remains, OK," Detroit police Lt. Brian Bowser said at a Friday night news conference.

He said police were working with the medical examiner's office to identify the bodies and notify family members.

Jason Moon, a spokesman for the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, described the remains in a statement as "decomposing bodies."

The funeral home has been closed for about six months because of alleged workplace violations and an ongoing state investigation.

"We will use the evidence gathered today to add to our open investigation and will continue to work with local law enforcement as this case proceeds," Moon said.

A cadaver dog later went through the two-story building but did not find any other bodies, he said.

Bowser criticized "the callousness of ... the owners and the employees of the funeral home."

He said police want to interview former owner Raymond Cantrell, who spoke to NBC News affiliate WDIV in Detroit Friday night.

"On behalf of my family, I'm really sorry that it happened and totally appalled," Cantrell said. "The fact it occurred. I'm just thanking God it wasn't something I had any involvement in."

The state licensing agency announced in April that the funeral home had been shut down because of multiple occupational code violations and "an imminent threat to the public health and safety."

The allegations included "improper storage of embalmed bodies" and "an unclean and unsanitary embalming room, with peeling and chipping paint, water stained walls, dirty floors, and stained protective gear," department officials said in a statement.

The statement did not name Raymond Cantrell. The funeral home's mortuary science license was suspended, as was the license of "designated manager" Jameca LaJoyce Boone.

Teresa Sue Klein was waiting in line at the local bodega when she felt what every woman dreads in a public place. Some MAN had grabbed her ass. It's 2018 and this still happens? Is there no relief from the constant sexual assault? It was the last straw. Teresa- soon to be known as "Cornerstore Caroline"- was going to DO something. She would no longer be silent. So she turned and screamed at the almost-rapist that had grabbed her nether regions. Then- because #IbelieveHer #Ford #metoo #stillshepersisted Teresa continued screaming at the boy's mother and called the cops (not for reals tho).

Oh, right, the boy's mother. Because the sexual criminal in question that she was screaming at was a 9 year old black boy that accidentally brushed up against her with his backpack as he walked by in the store.
And part of her response:
"Cornerstore Caroline" claimed to be a cop and then lied and said that the boy's mother made the claim instead.(see below) She apparently was only pretending (see below) to call the police (which seems to be a thing white woman do against black children) to intimidate the family who had just been trying to buy groceries when the unemployed, self-described Buddhist feminist humanist decided that she had been sexually assaulted by a 9 year old boy walking near her.

Some media reports:
Neighbors said it was a common occurrence. “People moved out of the building because of her. She’s terrorizing the building,” said Hazel Freeman, 52, a pastor who lives above Klein. “She would call me up and tell me my son is smoking weed in the hallway. He’s married and he lives in Canarsie.”
...
The self-described unemployed “feminist and a humanist” variously insisted she was groped in the bodega and acknowledged the boy had only touched her accidentally — and accused his mom of pretending to be a cop, then later leaving a threatening message for her.

“I would like to apologize to her daughter and her son but not to her. She could have walked away, but she didn’t. I’m also a Buddhist, [but] I let my temper show,” Klein said.

“I’ve been called racist before, and I’m not.”

But neighbors disagreed, claiming Klein has written “racial slurs” in chalk outside the building.
“I have no idea what they’re talking about,” she told The Post.

In fact, just hours earlier, Klein had doubled down on her accusations to Pix11.
“I was standing at the counter, and I was sexually assaulted,” Klein told Pix11 on Friday afternoon. “I understand how it looks but [the boy’s mother] escalated and then I lost my temper at her not at that child.”
When Klein tried to spin her story to say her fake 911 call was really about the mother’s reaction, the reporter reminded her that she had called 911 to report a sexual assault.

“As far as I could tell from the way it felt on my butt, that’s what had happened,” Klein responded, adding, “It’s not the first time I’ve been grabbed on the ass by a kid.
...
When a reporter told Klein she was the one who claimed to be a cop, Klein replied, “I did not say that, if I did say that I would be surprised.”

At one point, a small group of Klein’s neighbors, clearly fed up with her bullshit, interrupted her Pix11 interview, telling the reporter that Klein has a history of calling the cops on people. That seemed to be verified not only by Klein herself, who says she’s called 911 several times on people harassing her since the video came out, but by Pix11 reporter Andrew Ramos, who shared video of Klein calling the cops on him and another reporter when they first attempted to get an interview.

Klein has deleted her social media profiles after being called out by viewers of the viral video, some of whom have shared her personal information on Twitter and Facebook. It is not clear if she has filed a police report over the incident. She did not return requests for comment from Heavy to her phone number and email address.

Family to sue New York Applebee's after 17-month-old toddler severely burns himself with scalding water they requested to sterilize their silverware

http://archive.is/7CFuY | https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...nth-old-toddler-severely-burns-hot-water.html

  • Cadien Scott Gaffney, 17-months, suffered second degree burns at a Rosedale location on October 5
  • A server had brought out hot water so the boy's family could sterilize their utensils - at their request - when Cadien pulled the cup on himself
  • 'The baby was just screaming,' said family representative, Kourtnei Patterson
  • The boy's clothes were smoky and as Cadien's mother tried to take them off, his skin started coming off
  • Applebee's contends that they handled the situation appropriately but the family claims it took them 20 minutes to call first response

A New York family is planning to sue a local Applebee's after their toddler was severely burned by piping hot water.

Cadien Scott Gaffney, 17-months, suffered second degree burns at a Rosedale location on October 5, according to family spokeswoman Kourtnei Patterson.

She shared that the family had asked for hot water in efforts to sterilize their utensils, PIX 11 reports. But when the server brought the water for the family, the young child was able to pull the cup onto himself.

'The baby was just screaming,' Patterson added.

The boy's clothes were smoky and as Cadien's mother tried to take them off, his skin started coming off.

'This is a family restaurant. They should have known better,' said family attorney, Sanford Rubenstein. 'This shouldn't have happened.'

The lawyer also contends that the employees at the Queens location didn't alert authorities for 20 minutes, according to the New York Post.

Applebee's released a statement sharing that they were truly 'saddened' by the incident and that their thoughts were with the boy and his family.

'After a thorough investigation and review of security footage and call logs, we are confident that our team members acted with urgency, calling for medical assistance while helping the family,' the popular chain added in their statement.

'We were unable to obtain the family's contact information onsite but would like to assist in any way that we can as we continue to cooperate with authorities. As always, the safety of our guests is top priority.'

Patterson shared that Cadien has been crying, is agitated, and unable to sleep and eat.

'He is a baby so he wants to play, he'll get up and try [to play] but he collapses in pain, screaming bloody murder,' she said.

The New Nazis: How the meme-rich world of the internet is a threat in Australia

Everyone's Nazi these days, it seems. Bothered by punctuation mistakes? You're a grammar Nazi. Like to protest hate speech? A leftist Nazi.

Nazi is most often used in our society to describe a person intolerant of the beliefs of others. It's become a confusing term, with some even believing that Nazis were actually socialists (for what it's worth, they weren't).

In Germany, the use of Nazi symbols is still prohibited, although a ban on Nazi imagery in computer games was recently lifted. But at the same time, the tightening of anti-hate speech mechanisms on social media platforms (including heavy fines in Germany) has led to an exodus of neo-Nazi groups. Many are moving their cyber-activities to unregulated online spaces such as the Russian-hosted platform VK.

Yet on the streets of the United States and European countries like Germany and Sweden, identified neo-Nazi groups are still regularly marching and demonstrating on hot button issues like immigration.Sometimes that action results in violence to property or people such as in Charlottesville or Gothenburg.

The sight of swastika flag-waving men shouting "Jews will not replace us" and "blood and soil" while marching en masse is genuinely terrifying.

What about Australia?
On the surface, things don't look too bad here. Individual Nazis rather than organised groups have been in the news for serious and violent crimes such as murder and drug and firearms offences.

The Nazi group attracting the most media attention, Antipodean Resistance ("The Hitlers you've been waiting for"), have been operating for over a year but so far have confined their activities to putting up stickers and posters on Australia's eastern seaboard or taking hikes in the bush.

Noted ethno-nationalist Dr Jim Saleam attracted only 709 votes — or less than 1 per cent of the vote — as an Australia First Party candidate in the recent Longman by-election.

So does Australia have a neo-Nazi problem?
In short, yes. Look not on the streets but online. Nazism is thriving in the meme-rich world of the internet.

The 21st century's "Nazi 2.0" looks very different from its predecessor.

The goal these days is to shift mainstream political debate to the far-right around certain key ideas: white genocide, the importance of rejecting globalism, and establishing a white ethno-state. This process is called shifting the "Overton window" and is based on the idea that politics and policy can be deeply influenced by expanding what's acceptable to talk about publicly.

Here's an example of how it works. The plight of white farmers in South Africa was the basis for a series of rallies in Australia in early 2018. Conservative politicians and political contenders such as Avi Yemini (Australian Liberty Alliance candidate), Andrew Laming (Liberal), Fraser Anning (independent) jumped on the issue and called for special visas for the white farmers. In response, Minister Peter Dutton then asked Home Affairs to look into providing assistance, describing them as "the sort of migrants we want to bring into our country".

Suddenly the notions of "white minority under threat" and "white genocide" became part of everyday political discussion.

Less than six months later, visiting alt-right provocateur Canadian Laura Southern wore an "It's OK to be white" T-shirt as she landed in Australia. Senator Anning was sharing memes about "white pride" online and talking about the "final solution" in the Senate.

And Pauline Hanson put up a motion calling for recognition of the "deplorable rise of anti-white racism and attacks on Western civilisation". She asked the Senate to acknowledge that "it's okay to be white".

Overton window smashed.

Where do these ideas come from?
Instead of looking to Germany, we find the source of the neo-Nazi playbook is David Lane, an American ex-Ku Klux Klan member who formed a white supremacist terror group called The Order. While serving a 190-year jail sentence for violence, he churned out bulk Nazi materials and coined the key neo-Nazi expression, the 14 words: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children."

His manifesto, The 88 precepts (H is the 8th letter of the alphabet, so 88/HH is code for Heil Hitler), outlines the foundational beliefs for Nazi 2.0. According to Lane, the white race must be preserved against deliberate attempts at genocide by a global Jewish conspiracy. And the white ethno-state is the solution he proposed.

During 2017 and 2018, a meme frequently shared on Australian patriotic Facebook pages asked exactly this: "Asia for the Asians, Africa for the Africans. But what about the white race?"

Or as Senator Anning has put it, "diversity should be managed to remain compatible with social cohesion and national identity".

What makes statements like these Nazism? The underpinning belief that only shared ethnicity (blood) can create strong and cohesive societies. And that these societies need to be tied to traditional lands (soil).

Australian Nazi 2.0
But how does this work in Australia? After all, Europeans have only been here a few hundred years.

Many Australian neo-Nazis turn to 1788 and Captain Arthur Phillips's landing as heralding a new "race": the white Australian. They long for a return to the White Australia policy. They reject multiculturalism as a weak and despised civic nationalism. They believe that only so-called "compatible white races and cultures" can truly integrate into a strong Australian ethno-nation.

For them, Henry Lawson said it best:

Clear out the Calico Jimmy, the nigger, the Chow, and his pals;
Be your foreword for years: Irrigation. Make a network of lakes and canals!
See that your daughters have children, and see that Australia is home,
And so be prepared, a strong nation, for the storm that most surely must come.

Shitty parents making shitty decisions and blaming someone else to get money.

Fuck these shitty people making idiot demands. Water to fucking sterilize the silverware? Christ what a bunch of fucking douchebags who should kill themselves. Do they get a Darwin Award for boiling their own progeny alive?

If you're that sure the restaurant doesn't clean their silverware don't eat there you finicky fucking freaks.

On a more sober note, there's definitely an issue of comparative negligence here, at the very least. They're supposed to be supervising their crotchfruit they brought to a restaurant and they were the ones who demanded scalding water be brought to them, which is frankly an insulting fucking request even to make. In Japan you'd be expected to commit seppuku to atone for such a discourteous act.

If I were on the jury, I'd be inclined to find that this shit was entirely their fault and the restaurant should not have to pay shit.

Also, just in general, fuck people who bring goddamn babies to restaurants.

Ya know, there's a municipal election in Ottawa Monday next week.

Here's a city councillor candidate from Orleans, on the eastern edge of Ottawa. He's got a PhD in "Laa dee daa" and was brainwashed to commit an unspecified terrorist act 3 years ago.

This has little to do with religion and lots to do with the Russian Orthodox Church being a front for the KGB.

20181015-OYT1I50019-L.jpg

Fictional idol Yō Watanabe can't catch a break. First, her manhole cover in Numazu is defaced and now one of her biggest fans had a fateful run-in with the local police.

The 23-year-old driver of a decked out Yō itasha allegedly hit a woman with the car and fled the scene on October 13. Numazu police arrested the man, originally from Tsukuba, Ibaraki, on suspicion of causing an injury with a car due to negligence and engaging in a hit-and run. Police didn't specify whether the suspect admitted to the charges or not.

According to police the driver turned right at an intersection at approximately 5 p.m. on October 13 and hit a 79-year-old pedestrian crossing the street. The collision caused the woman to break her right wrist. The man then drove away. Police were able to locate the suspect quickly given the unique appearance of the car.

The city of Numazu has had an increasing number of problems with Love Live! Sunshine!! fans since the anime debuted in 2016. The city of Numazu has a large elderly population and the advent of anime pilgrimages brought swaths of visitors hoping to see the places featured in Love Live! Sunshine!!. The intermingling groups have lead to repeated warnings from the anime's staff and city officials to respect residents and private property.

Nonetheless, attempts to market tourism on the anime's popularity have met with mixed results. The city crowdfunded nine manhole covers of the AQOURS idols only for visitors to repeatedly vandalize them. The covers will pulled from the streets and two college students and one high school student were arrested in relation to the vandalism.

The military exercise will continue until Oct. 26.
Egypt and Russia on Monday launched a joint military exercise to combat terrorism, according to the Egyptian military.

The “Defenders of Friendship-3” drill includes members of parachute units from both countries, military spokesman Col. Tamer Rifai said in a statement.

The military exercise, which will continue until Oct. 26, is being held at the Mohamed Najib military base in northwestern Egypt.

The drill aims to “exchange training experiences of special units..., and combat training for special and counter-terrorism forces according to the latest training systems," the statement said.

The exercise comes as Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi began a three-day visit to Russia on Monday for talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

A similar military training was held between Russian and Egyptian forces in the southwestern city of Novorossiysk last year.

Russia-Egypt first anti-terrorism drills

"At the invitation of the Egyptian side, representatives of the defense ministries from the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Kuwait, Bahrein, Oman, Sudan, Jordan, Greece, Cyprus, Serbia, the Republic of Belarus, Armenia and Kazakhstan have been invited to observe the drills of airborne forces of Russia and Egypt," the press office said.

Official events on the occasion of receiving Russian paratroopers and the commencement of the joint drills were held the other day on the territory of the military base of an Egyptian Special Operations battalion.

The basic phase of the ‘Defenders of Friendship-2018’ drills will be held on October 24-26. Overall, the maneuvers will involve over 400 paratroopers from both countries, more than 15 helicopters and aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Force and the Egyptian Air Force, and also six Russian BMD-2 and BTR-D armored vehicles that will be air-dropped using Russian-made parachutes.

"Another white woman arrives on the scene and the crowd begs the newly-arrived onlooker to see if she can speak to the woman in their native tongue. Although they appear to be from different tribes (as a professional wypipologist, I should warn readers to never approach a white person who attaches their keys to their belt loop—those are the most dangerous kind), the bystander tries to speak to the woman in Caucasianese.

“Now, go upload that to World Star!” yells Bootyless Becky, paying the woman no attention.

Brenda the Good White Woman tries to intervene, weirdly informing the evil lady, “I’m calling you out!” After giving Taylor Not-So-Swift a formal notification of grievance, the good white woman added: “Did you seriously just call the police on a child?”

Amidst all the hullabaloo comes the funniest part, as the two oxymorons stand face-to-face calling each other the worst name they could think of: “White lady.”

--------------------

Edit: another source relating why her social media appears to be missing and some of her background:
Klein has deleted her social media profiles after being called out by viewers of the viral video, some of whom have shared her personal information on Twitter and Facebook. It is not clear if she has filed a police report over the incident. She did not return requests for comment from Heavy to her phone number and email address.

Klein is a Missouri native who went to the University of Missouri to study sociology. Klein, originally from Farmington, Missouri, graduated from the college in 1987. She has also been a performer and actress. Klein returned to the University of Missouri around 2008 to complete her Ph.D in biochemistry.

Klein told The New York Post she is an unemployed “feminist and humanist.” Her neighbors told The Post that Klein has a history of racist incidents, including calling 911. Some said she has written “racial slurs” on the sidewalk.
https://heavy.com/news/2018/10/teresa-sue-klein/

Additionally there was apparently some incorrect info in the Post report. From what I'm reading she didn't actually say she was a cop but was repeating what she thought the other mother said. And apparently she DID actually call 911 but they had no "report" of it because by the time officers arrived, she had left.

But women never lie about sexual assault! #believewomen

You know how those little black boys are.

Wealthy white woman crying rape when a black person dares exist nearby is so brave and woke and progressive. I can't believe they didn't believewomen and just lynch that kid on the spot, like they would have done in the good old days. He is a male, so by definition he's a rapist, after all.

President Donald J. Trump’s frequent threats and hostile acts directed toward journalists and the media are not only offensive and unbecoming of a democratic leader; they are also illegal. In the Trump era, nasty rhetoric, insults and even threats of violence have become an occupational hazard for political reporters and commentators. To be sure, a good portion of President Trump’s verbal attacks on journalists and news organizations might be considered fair game in this bare-knuckled political moment. The president has free-speech rights just like the rest of us, and deeming the news media “the enemy of the American people” and dismissing accurate reports as “fake news” are permissible under the First Amendment.

But the First Amendment does not protect all speech. Although the president can launch verbal tirades against the press, he cannot use the powers of his office to suppress or punish speech he doesn’t like. When President Trump proposes government retribution against news outlets and reporters, his statements cross the line. Worse still, in several cases it appears that the bureaucracy he controls has acted on his demands, making other threats he issues to use his governmental powers more credible. Using the force of the presidency to punish or suppress legally protected speech strikes at the heart of the First Amendment, contravening the Constitution. Presidents are free to mock, needle, evade and even demean the press, but not to use the power of government to stifle it.

That is why this week PEN America, an organization of writers that defends free expression, together with the nonprofit organization Protect Democracy and the Yale Law School Media Freedom and Information Clinic, is filing suit in federal court seeking an order directing the president not to use the force of his office to exact reprisals against the press.
While the president’s actions are unprecedented, the law here is established. A 2015 judicial opinion by the Seventh Circuit’s (now-retired) Judge Richard Posner makes clear that “a public official who tries to shut down an avenue of expression of ideas and opinions through actual or threatened imposition of government power or sanction is violating the First Amendment.” Similarly, a 2003 Second Circuit opinion found that the First Amendment was violated when an official’s statements “can reasonably be interpreted as intimating that some form of punishment or adverse regulatory action will follow the failure to accede to the official’s request.’”
President Trump has engaged repeatedly in precisely the kind of behavior those courts have found unlawful.

After repeatedly attacking CNN’s news coverage as “fake,” “garbage” and “terrible” and personally pledging to block a proposed merger of its parent company, Time Warner, with AT&T, the Trump administration opposed the deal, a vertical merger that would not normally attract antitrust scrutiny. The government denied that retaliation was at work and the court did not assess that claim. But the judge rejected the government’s challenge and approved the merger with no conditions imposed, citing the government’s failure to adduce “economic evidence of any kind” and reliance on “bare conjecture” as the basis for its case.
Trump has also repeatedly attacked the Washington Post and threatened to target its owner Jeff Bezos’s biggest holding, Amazon. This spring the president followed through on his threats, ordering the Postal Service to review rates for the online shopping behemoth. Coming in the wake of the president’s eruptions directed at the Post, that order too appears to be punitive.

In other cases, too, the president seems to be retaliating against individuals for their coverage. Trump threatened to withdraw the press credentials of reporters who criticized him; in August CNN’s Kaitlan Collins was barred from a Rose Garden press conference for asking questions the White House judged impertinent.

Others in the media cannot help but take notice that an angry president may strike back. When we have consulted our members, writers and journalists working across the U.S., they have told us they take into account in their writing that criticism of the administration might put them at risk. Many media outlets and correspondents are pressing forward fearlessly, making this a heyday for certain types of hard-hitting coverage. But individual writers, especially without the protection of a big media company, may think twice before publishing pieces that could land them in the White House’s crosshairs. Moreover, while intrepid journalists may be willing to work under threat from the highest levels of their government, here in the United States they should never have to.
Curtailing the president’s violations of the First Amendment is unlikely to halt some of its most dangerous ripple effects. The last few months have brought violent attacks on journalists, some clearly inspired by the president’s invective. In August a man was arrested for threatening to murder Boston Globe journalists parroted the president’s “enemy of the people” language. White House radio reporter April Ryan, the New York Times’ Bret Stephens, CNN’s Andrew Kaczynzki and others have received death threats.

President Trump’s tirades against the press are by now routine, and may seem to fit right in with our no-holds-barred culture of polarized punditry and bluster. But the president of the United States isn’t just another talking head. It is vital that courts weigh in to underscore that no matter what a given president may think and say, a free press is an essential pillar of our democracy. A court could affirm that by reminding President Trump that his freedom of speech does not extend to threatening to use the powers of his office against the press.
Our news media is right to keep their heads down, ignore the insults and remain focused on journalism. But that shouldn’t mean the president’s First Amendment violations go unchallenged. It is up to those of us who depend upon a free press to rise in defense of it.

San Francisco School Board President Drops Pledge Of Allegiance, Replaces With Quotes From Black Authors, Gay Leaders

Stevon Young, the new president of the San Francisco School Board, abandoned the Pledge of Allegiance at the opening of the board's monthly meeting last week, instead opting to recite a quote from poet May Angelou.

Cook said he skipped the patriotic pledge at a time when the Trump administration "has been attacking our liberties," the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

After roll was taken at the meeting, Cook read an excerpt from an Angelou poem: "When you learn, teach. When you get, give."

Cook later said he broke tradition because few people know where the Pledge of Allegiance came from, anyway. "If you ask 10 Americans who wrote it, or when it was implemented, or why it is how we start our meetings, a lot of us would be hard pressed" to answer, he said.

(In case you're wondering, the Pledge was penned by a socialist minister, Francis Bellamy, in 1892. President Eisenhower in 1954 asked Congress to include the words, “under God" as the fear of atheistic communism spread.)

Cook said the decision was personal. “We should stand for [the pledge] because those ideals are important to me,” he said. “To speak them is another thing. ...There are a lot of ways to express gratitude and appreciation for the country and its citizens," said Cook. "This is how I plan to do that."

"Cook said he plans to select quotes or the writings of a range of inspirational Americans, including writer Toni Morrison, gay rights icon Harvey Milk and novelist James Baldwin," the Chronicle wrote.

Cook claimed he was not snubbing the Pledge for press (although the move garnered much from the liberal media).

“I'm not doing it as a way to seek attention,” he said. “I really think that these people are a great testament to our values and who we should aspire to be as Americans.”

“I’m no Colin Kaepernick,” he said, referring to the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who knelt during the national anthem before NFL games in 2016, setting off a trend.

“I’m Stevon Cook.”
