It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

Honda will shut down its Philippine production facility
The plant has 650 employees and started operations in 1992

The Philippine unit of Honda said on Saturday its production facility will shut down next month, as the Japanese automaker struggles to shore up global automobile operations.
Japan's third-largest automaker has seen its profitability decline by more than half in the past two years, led by a series of quality-related issues.

In a statement, Honda Cars Philippines said its production plant south of the capital Manila will cease operations next month. But automobile sales and after-sales services will continue through Honda's regional network.
"To meet Honda's customer needs in the Philippines for reasonably priced and good quality products, Honda considered efficient allocation and distribution of resources," the company said.
Production will focus on other hubs in Asia and Oceania, it added.
Honda Philippines' manufacturing plant, which has 650 employees and associates, started operations in 1992. It makes BR-V and City passenger cars catering to local demand.
Honda Philippines counts Rizal Commercial Banking Corp and a unit of conglomerate Ayala Corp as its local partners.
The Philippines' automotive output is a minnow compared with its Southeast Asian peers, notably Thailand. A government tax incentive program launched in 2015 has failed to significantly raise the country's local auto production.

Honda PH assembly plant closure: Too few cars
By: Roy Stephen C. Canivel - @inquirerdotnet
Inquirer Business / 08:20 PM February 24, 2020

Honda Motor closed its Philippine assembly plant because it was no longer strategic to keep a factory that makes too few cars as other car manufacturers warned the government against any future policy that could be seen as a punishment for auto companies that decided to stay.
Honda wants to focus its resources on future trends, such as producing electric vehicles, which, along with a slowdown in the global automotive market, prompted Honda headquarters to shutter some factories to make better use of its resources, the spokesperson of Honda’s local unit said.

And so, its plant in Sta. Rosa Laguna — along with over 380 factory workers — had become casualties of a global corporate strategy that essentially involved cutting dead weight to focus on where to go next.

Other factories would close down, too, although at least they would have more time to adjust to the news. For example, Honda is also ending its manufacturing operations in Turkey and the United Kingdom, but will do so in 2021 yet.

Here in the Philippines, factory workers will officially have only until March 25, or about a month after the closure announcement was made last Saturday (Feb. 22). Louie Soriano, spokesperson of Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) admitted that the manufacturer’s announcement was “abrupt.”
“Honda needs to close down the Philippine factory because of its low production volume. It’s not because of an issue on politics, or an issue on government policy, or on labor union. It’s none of that,” he said in a phone interview on Monday (Feb. 24).

“That’s the direction of Honda Motor so it could have an efficient utilization of its resources,” he added.

If a low production volume is the main reason for the closure, company figures would suggest that the Philippine unit had no chance of surviving the cost cutting measure, especially when compared to Honda’s soon-to-be closed factory in the UK.
In the UK, Honda has a capacity to make 250,000 cars annually, although this only reached 160,000 vehicles in 2018, according to media reports. This is a far cry from what the Philippine plant could make in Laguna — 15,000 units per year — and the actual number of units it produced last year — 8,000 units.
While it’s clear that the production volume is low, it’s not clear at this point why it was low to begin with. Soriano deferred from commenting, saying it was all because of “market demand.”
Although he said that the closure had nothing to do with sales, it is difficult to ignore the fact that Honda has seen its volume sales in the Philippines drop for at least two years in a row now.

This could be traced to the Duterte administration’s move to slap higher excise on new vehicles in 2018 under the TRAIN law, or the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Act. This, coupled with high inflation rates that kept people from buying new cars, pulled Honda and the rest of the industry back from selling as many cars as they should.
Honda’s sales dropped 26.7 percent in 2018 to 23,294 units, and then fell further by nearly 13 percent to 20,338 units in 2019, industry data showed.
The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (Campi), the country’s largest auto industry group, said the closure of a company that has for long been a strong advocate of local manufacturing was “unfortunate.”
“It highlights the importance of continued government support to local production of vehicles and parts and components,” said Campi, which counts among its members big players like Toyota and Mitsubishi. Honda is also a member of the group.
“At this critical stage, Philippine government must seriously study any initiatives that will disincentivize domestic auto assembly operation as this will further endanger employment and existing investments, among others,” the group said.
Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez met with HCPI President Noriyuki Takakura on Monday to look for “alternative options.” Lopez, however, told reporters after the meeting that the Honda head office had already made up its mind to close the Philippine assembly plant.
Honda’s exit in March caps nearly 30 years of production in the Philippines, which churned out some of Honda’s most famous units, BR-V and City. Soriano said he is still not sure what to do with the factory after, although Lopez said that there are auto companies that are interested in taking over.
Nevertheless, its departure will leave the industry in an even more uncomfortable situation, as the Department of Trade and Industry considers further taxing imported vehicles through a safeguard duty. Lopez sees the possible safeguard duty as a form of protection for local assemblers, although local assemblers might not share the same opinion since a duty would make their imports more expensive.
“Of course, they expressed apprehension [on the possibility] of having a safeguard duty. That’s really more of an advantage for the local assembler if you have a safeguard duty because imports would be [further taxed], Lopez said after the meeting.
“Maybe the [Honda] headquarters can consider that in the future,” he added.
However, when asked if it was still possible for the Honda plant to return, Soriano said this was out of the local unit’s hands.
“I don’t know because this is the decision of Honda Motor. We don’t know,” he said.

Ehhh, I can believe it's real. I could also believe it's fake if the woman has any kind of history of drama or attention whoring on her social media. My personal experience with apartment complexes of that style is that they are old and have not had a whole lot of updating so they're cheap. They aren't section 8 crack dens, but you definitely get pieces of shit who don't give a fuck and don't have any class living there. Exactly the kind of people who would park in handicap parking places and then act like assholes when called out on it. Just call the cops and have the car towed repeatedly. Get a cheap trail cam or something because the perpetrator will be sure to vandalize your home or apartment after costing them impound fees and fines That being said, she might be looking for attention and oppression points. She felt she needed a handicap spot, and got it, so now she needs another problem to be overcome so she makes one up. That kinda thing isn't uncommon. It really could go either way.

It's definitely suspicious but I'm leaning more to believing it. There are plenty of asshole people in the world who would definitely write this sort of thing. What gets my attention to this is the response from the handicapped lady. If the person parked in her spot, that means they live in the complex, right? It wouldn't be hard to find out who had done it, surely? Instead they put it online and make it a public issue "to raise awareness". That's definitely seeking attention. Seeing how she isn't trying to capitalise on what happened to her, I'm feeling it was probably real and not manufactured.

How long before ABC News ratings will be even lower than CNN and MSNBC? This is karma for taking care of Project Veritas.
https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/abc-news-suspends-david-wright-152055613.html ( http://archive.ph/igcE7 )

said that it has suspended correspondent David Wright after right-wing provocateur James O’Keefe’s group Project Veritas caught him on video complaining about how politics is covered.
“Any action that damages our reputation for fairness and impartiality or gives the appearance of compromising it harms ABC News and the individuals involved,” the network said in a statement. “David Wright has been suspended, and to avoid any possible appearance of bias, he will be reassigned away from political coverage when he returns.”

In the heavily edited video posted on Wednesday, Wright can be heard being asked whether he considers himself a Democratic socialist. Wright replies that “more than that, I consider myself a socialist.”
It is not entirely clear what the context was for the conversation, but Project Veritas said that the undercover video was recorded during coverage of the New Hampshire primary. A source familiar with the situation said that Wright had no idea he was being recorded.
Wright also can be heard saying “we don’t hold him to account” and that “we don’t give him credit for what things he does do.” Project Veritas said that was a reference to President Donald Trump. Wright also is heard saying that “we’re in this awkward moment where…and created by this awkward moment we having this f—ing president.”

Fly Me To The...2nd Moon?

www.cnn.com/2020/02/26/world/earth-mini-moon-asteroid-scn-trnd

Earth has captured a tiny object and pulled it into orbit.
The asteroid, known as 2020 CD3, is only the second asteroid known to orbit Earth. And while it won't last, this asteroid acts as a temporary mini-moon whirling around our planet. The asteroid is expected to drop out of orbit around the Earth in April and return to a heliocentric orbit, which is an orbit around the sun.
The discovery was made by Kacper Wierzchos and Theodore Pruyne, researcher specialists for the Catalina Sky Survey. It's a NASA-funded project at the University of Arizona's Lunar and Planetary Laboratory in Tuscon, Arizona.
The survey is supported by the Near-Earth Object Observations Program, which reports into NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office. Specialists at Catalina help NASA discover and track near-Earth objects that could be potentially hazardous to the planet.
In this case, they found a natural satellite that was pulled into Earth's orbit, likely two or three years ago.

On Tuesday, the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory's Minor Planet Center announced the object. The MPC is "the single worldwide location for receipt and distribution of positional measurements of minor planets, comets and outer irregular natural satellites of the major planets."
"Orbit integrations indicate that this object is temporarily bound to the Earth," according to the announcement on its site. "No link to a known artificial object has been found. Further observations and dynamical studies are strongly encouraged."

The asteroid is likely between 6.2 feet and 11.4 feet in diameter, the researchers said on Twitter.
"Over the next few weeks, more observations are likely to come in," Pruyne said in an email to CNN. "This will better help us understand the origin of the object, as well as a more accurate timeline of when the object came into orbit."
This will help them determine if it is a rocky asteroid or an artificial object, said Eric Christensen, director of the Catalina Sky Survey.
So far, they only have about a week's worth of data, Christensen said.
"With further observations and a better understanding of the orbit, dynamicists will be able to trace 2020 CD3's processing through the Earth-Moon system, and work backward to the pre-capture orbit," he said.

The first known asteroid to orbit Earth, asteroid 2006 RH120, was discovered using the Catalina Sky Survey in September 2006. It's known as a TCO, or Temporarily Captured Object, to astronomers.

Fort Myers hospital worker accused of sucking patient's toes
https://www.nbc-2.com/story/41821296/fort-myers-hospital-worker-accused-of-sucking-patients-toes (http://archive.vn/ueuY9)

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A hospital worker at Gulf Coast Hosptial in Fort Myers was arrested after being accused of sucking a patient's toes, according to a Lee County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

The patient said they felt their right foot being touched around 11 p.m. on Monday. They assumed a nurse was checking for swelling, until they were touched again. Then, the patient felt it happening a third time — this time they felt something wet between their toes. When they looked up, they said they saw Frantz Beldorin, 23, on his knees with his head bent over their foot, according to the report.

After yanking their foot away from Beldorin, he returned to his seat in the corner of the room. As a "sitter," he had been assigned to keep an eye on the patient's roommate who was a flight risk, the report said.

Later, the patient said Beldorin poked his head around the curtain and asked if they were ok. That's when they called for assistance and told a nurse what had happened, according to the report.

The nurse called security and security called the police, after which Beldorin was arrested at the hospital.

NBC2 spoke with Beldorin after he bonded out of jail to get his side of the story.

He said the nasty accusation was a big misunderstanding that resulted from an incident with his cell phone.

"I dropped my phone under the bed. and as I’m trying to get my phone and she kicks," Beldorin said. “She’s afraid and we’re in the dark. It’s a dark room with a dark male at the foot of her bed. I can understand."

Beldorin said he lost his job and reputation in one night.

“It makes me look crazy or creepy and I’m not! Like I’m not that type of dude," he said.

Beldorin is facing a battery charge on a person 65 years of age or older.

Lee Health released a statement confirming they're working with law enforcement, but that they couldn't comment further because the case is under investigation.

Yes

When Dr. Amy Brown, a pediatric pulmonologist who lives in Irvington, New York, and is Jewish, found out she was expecting a son, she started asking friends and family about mohels. Traditionally a mohel is a rabbi, a cantor or another religious leader who performs the brit milah, or bris, a circumcision ceremony, on an 8-day-old Jewish boy.
She found the options for her son’s bris less than appealing.
“I learned about one man who had a license plate that said, ‘SNIP IT,’ and I was like, ‘No.’”
A month before her due date and still without a mohel, Dr. Brown read an article about Dr. Dania Rumbak, a pediatrician and a mohel, and felt huge relief, she said, thinking that Dr. Rumbak, as a woman, would bring empathy to a procedure that so often is rote. “Men have this tone of, ‘This is how it has been done,’” she said.
For centuries, the role of mohel was dominated by male religious leaders. As most rabbis and cantors have been male in the past — the Rabbinical Assembly, a Conservative Jewish association, didn’t let women become rabbis until 1985 — men have performed most of the rituals involved in Jewish life.
But that is changing, especially when it comes to the brit milah. Over the past 20 years, a shift has occurred within Conservative and Orthodox Judaism to embrace more doctors and medical professionals as mohels.
And now women — many of them doctors and not necessarily rabbis — are offering a new option, holistic in its approach, for Jewish parents. They have so much business, they said, that they can’t keep up with demand. Some have quit their day jobs to perform the brit milah full time.

A bris can be a challenging experience. It is both ceremony and surgery; the procedure is usually performed by a medical professional these days, but not always. “In the Orthodox world there is a tradition against having physicians trained to do britot to re-emphasize that milah is a religious act, not a medical one,” said Rabbi Gary Atkins, who provides training for mohels.
A bris also tends to be done in front of people. So Dr. Rumbak’s main goal, in addition to the health of the baby, is to make sure her clients — baby, parents and guests — are comfortable with the procedure.
For the bris at Dr. Brown’s house, Dr. Rumbak told the parents that they could call her any time with questions. She did a full exam both before and after the circumcision. And because Dr. Rumbak is a licensed doctor, she was able to give the baby an injection to numb the pain before the procedure. Mohels without medical licenses cannot do this.

For the spiritual part of the ceremony, Dr. Rumbak asked family and friends to read passages, printing out booklets so everyone in attendance could follow along. “Dania was someone who did not follow a script and made it about my family,” Dr. Brown said. “I’ve had three friends use Dania in the two years since.”

A great number of the doctors interested in training for the brit milah have been ob-gyns and pediatricians, two fields full of female doctors with experience in circumcision.
“As access is opening up to more women, they are jumping at the opportunity,” said Rabbi Julie Adler, executive director of the Brit Milah Program of Reform Judaism in Los Angeles, which trains mohels. “They also, in a really good way, are shifting how we do this,” she added. She said that female mohels tend to put an emphasis on making everyone, Jews and non-Jews alike, feel welcome and part of the process.

“They are giving the whole thing a lot more TLC,” Rabbi Adler said. Half of this year’s students, she said, are female.
For Dr. Rumbak, a Manhattan pediatrician, being a mohel, or mohelet (the female term), was supposed to be a side gig.

She got her start in 2017, after she couldn’t find someone she trusted to do her son’s bris. “I think some mohels treat the bris as very routine,” she said. “They show up, do their jobs, and leave.”
Dr. Rumbak had done a two-year stint at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in Washington Heights, where she said she circumcised some 2,000 babies. She then asked a rabbi to give her the ceremonial training in order to perform the brit milah.

Next, she created a website, and almost immediately her inbox was full. Some parents would call her months in advance, as soon as they found out that they were having a boy. Other parents opted out of the eight-day rule in order to align their schedules with hers. She does as many as three brises every Sunday, and recently scaled back her hospital shifts to meet the demand.
But some Jewish parents, especially those who lean more conservative, still prioritize male mohels. “The standard approach is that a woman can do a milah and it is valid, but there is a preference for men,” said Rabbi Dov Linzer, president of Yeshivat Chovevei Torah, a Modern Orthodox rabbinical school in Riverdale.
Dr. Rumbak has experienced this. “There are some people who, because of religious reasons, they won’t talk to me,” she said. “They don’t want to hire me because I am a woman.”

Dr. Emily Blake, a mohel in Rockland County, is often asked how long women have been in the bris business. “The honest answer is we’ve been doing this for thousands of years.” In the Old Testament, she pointed out, Moses’s wife Zipporah circumcised his son.
The job these days does come with occasional harassment, Dr. Blake said. It’s “anti-Semitism merged with anti-circumcision,” she explained. “It’s, ‘How could you do this and you are horrible, and I hope every man that you’ve attacked comes back to attack you.’”
But Dr. Blake is committed. She wanted to be a rabbi as a child. When she went to medical school, she studied to be an ob-gyn. But as someone deeply drawn to Judaism, Dr. Blake didn’t understand why she was performing circumcisions in hospitals as part of her residency, but not for Jewish families.

She worked as an ob-gyn for 20 years before turning to her mohel work full time. Now, Dr. Blake averages a bris every other day, sometimes more.
Marie Birman, an administrative director at N.Y.U.’s investment office, appreciated how much time Dr. Blake spent with her family during her son’s bris in 2019. “We had food after, a nice spread,” Ms. Birman said. “She stuck around and hung out with us and engaged with my family. It wasn’t just business.”

But it is business. Rabbi Linzer said many people like becoming a mohel because it’s a part of Judaism that allows for entrepreneurialism.
“It’s sort of like, I am a mohel, I am open for business, I am going to advertise on Facebook, I am going to get clients. It isn’t how we tend to think about opportunities for rabbis,” Rabbi Linzer said. “There are babies born every day, and if you are doing well, you can make a nice living.”
