It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

Some girl decided to moonlight as a sex worker(for some reason) and got fired from her normie job for it. It doesn't say exactly why she was fired but she apparently shared some photos of her in her uniform and in the company's bathroom which might be the reason. Girl wasn't even living in a liberal state so idk why she thought it was a good idea to do this. We'll likely see more of this in the future because these girls don't learn from what other porn stars/sex workers have been saying.
You're not advised to take nudes that show your face or any identifiable tattoos, let alone in your fucking work uniform. She's an idiot.

'Publisher' Google ordered to pay $40k in damages for defaming Melbourne lawyer after court ruling (archive)

This one interests me because Australia, for all the crazy shit they tend to do (banning an entire newsgroup back in the day because someone posted Power Rangers gore fiction, banning this website, constantly going into hysterics over bideo james, etc) they've actually made an occasional cogent decision here and there, such as ruling that purchases of digitally distributed software should be refundable under Australian law because the "goods" digitally purchased remain in perfect condition, so the seller must accept them back if they're returned during the mandatory period.

This tidbit from the court ruling is particularly good:

"The Google search engine … is not a passive tool," she wrote in her 98-page judgement.

"It is designed by humans who work for Google to operate in the way it does, and in such a way that identified objectionable content can be removed, by human intervention.

"I find that Google becomes a publisher of the search results that its search engine returns to a user who enters a search query."

It's a decent first step towards pursuing social media companies that selectively enforce extremely broad and constantly changing terms of use while hiding behind the excuse that "we're just a platform."

No it isn't, it's a terrible step to basic facts being made illegal. The lawyer actually represented gangland figures, for real, and was angry that people could look up this fact. It's even on Wikipedia.

The article may have been pulled. Interesting, though.

Did George Defteros do more than represent gangsters who were charged with crimes? My (limited) understanding of criminal law is that zealous professional representation of all criminal defendants -- even the worst ones -- is important because only lawyers definitively know what the laws are and how the courts work, so non-lawyers cannot be expected to adequately defend themselves.

It's vital to maintaining public faith in the legitimacy of the criminal justice system and the verdicts/sentences handed down, too. When SnakeThing was charged, he got a lawyer whose job and sworn duty were to find every possible legal means to get SnakeThing's charges reduced or dropped, and SnakeThing was still sent to the landfill. He likely took a plea deal, which would mean that his lawyer looked at all the evidence and concluded that SnakeThing's life was effectively over if the case got to trial.

I can't know for certain what went on with George Defteros, though. Did he go native and threaten witnesses/their families, destroy evidence or do other flat-out illegal shit in the name of getting his clients off the hook?

Either way, you do raise an excellent point. There's a fine line between:
  • Holding giant search engines/social media platforms to account when they claim to be brainless, unbiased algorithms but constantly invent and arbitrarily enforce new rules
  • Forcing every internet site to become a "publisher" responsible for policing the veracity of all uploaded/posted content in case the site is found to be harboring wrongthink
The decision in the news article I linked appeared to be leaning toward the former result, but now I can definitely see how it could advance the latter.

In university, it always amused me that a large proportion of the school's Africana library collection consisted of Afrikaans literature or books by/about Afrikaners, in spite of the fact that the separate Africana collection was established specifically to ensure that African texts would have their own special place away from whitey
Isn't it funny how Afrikaans books quote English untranslated?

Pretty much all Afrikaans-speakers are bilingual with English, so I guess there's no need for a translation in the footnotes. I notice the inverse is true as well. A lot of South African books in English will quote from an Afrikaans or Dutch text at length and without translation.

It's in this article.

It was easy for White South Africans to achieve universal bilingualism because both languages were simple and closely related.

Her Name Is Angela Summers. White U.S. Postal Employee Murdered by Black Male (As She Tried to Deliver Him His Trump Bucks/Coronavirus Stimulus Checks)

Indianapolis. For long time readers of SBPDL, it’s a city providing a never-ending flurry of stories about racial realities in Black-Run America (BRA).

But we aren’t supposed to notice. In fact, it is all but state-mandated we turn a blind-eye to what’s unfolding, because white people living in the present deserve it for the legacy of slavery (or some other newly-invented term for blaming whites for all the failures of blacks).

But this story explains oh-so-much about life in 2020 America.

Her Name is Angela Summers. [Possible motive uncovered in shooting death of Indianapolis letter carrier, WTHR.com, April 29, 2020]:

There are new details about the death of an Indianapolis postal worker and a possible motive for the crime.

According to union officials, mail to the home had been cut off because of a vicious dog. In that undelivered mail were two long-awaited federal stimulus checks.

Federal postal inspectors were back at the crime scene Wednesday night, interviewing possible witnesses and looking for more evidence. Earlier in the day, postal inspectors, FBI agents and Indianapolis homicide detectives arrested Tony Cushingberry. They suspect the 21-year-old is connected to the murder of letter carrier Angela Summers.

“We are very excited it was taken care of in an expeditious manner,” said Paul A. Toms, president of the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Summers was shot to death Monday while delivering the mail.

There was an ongoing dispute with a resident at a home on North Denny Street. According to Toms, the resident ignored two letters warning them to contain a vicious dog.

“So a third letter went out, your mail will be curtailed until you correct it,” he explained.

Summers, according to postal regulations, could not deliver mail to the house, but she did have to walk past it to deliver mail to other homes on her route.

“She was not going to tell him, ‘I’m not going to deliver your mail,’” Toms said. “They came out and confronted her and that escalated to her death.”

Toms said that in the undelivered mail were two federal stimulus checks.

Angela Summers was a white woman, employed by the U.S. Postal Service. She was merely trying to deliver mail to a black guy, who refused to control his violent dog. He murdered her as she was trying to deliver him his Trump Bucks (federal stimulus checks for the Coronavirus crisis).

Future-time orientation? Impulse control?

Just another dead white woman at the hand of violent black criminal few outside of Indianapolis will ever hear or read about.

I'd say I feel bad but Indianapolis is a well known shithole on par with Gary and tbh if she didn't get the hell outta dodge I don't know what to say.

This loon this actually brought a case against The Sun to Britain's press standards organization for mocking her and her stupid fetish in an article. It was just recently thrown out because, even with their plethora of garbage hate speech laws, not even the ultra-cucked, freedom-hating British could justify handing a protected sexual orientation loiscense to people who want to stick objects up their butthole.

Unless I'm reading it wrong or it was scrubbed, that article just talks about how George Defteros threatened a TV station if a character based on him was portrayed poorly in a TV series based on gangland shit. Apparently the character in the TV show wound up being simply "Lawyer," and the synopses don't say much about how the character was portrayed at all.

This is neat though and I'm interested to hear about what kind of shit Defteros got up to. DM if you want.

In the meantime, here's an article about a massive goatfuck that occurred recently in the wonderful world of Verified Twitter Journalism.

Financial Times reporter accessed private calls at Independent and Evening Standard (archive)

Basically, a former Buzzfeed writer by the name of Mark Di Stefano forgot that he was only a hack journalist, not a hacker journalist, and broke into a Zoom meeting at a rival news outlet that was discussing pay cuts and furloughs. He's now in some extremely deep dogshit. Count Dankula offered some more info about Mark Di Stefano's background and antics:

‘I’m tired of hiding,’ says Ann Arbor immigrant calling for worker protection amid pandemic
“We do not have any support, and the only way for them to see what we’re going through is to remember who we are. I’m tired of hiding,” Yamileth said in an interview facilitated by a translator. “I’ve never called in sick. I’ve always stayed overtime when needed … I’m out of a job and not appreciated for my efforts or time.
She is 50 years old, has been in America for 20 years, and yet cannot speak English.

Yamileth emphasized that immigrants “are not delinquent," saying she pay her taxes while financially supporting her mother in Honduras.
She displaces american workers, then sends the money she makes out of the country. Why don't people appreciate her more? She's an Essential Worker!
