It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

KORN's BRIAN 'HEAD' WELCH Admits He 'Went Too Far' With His Obsession With Christianity

During a new appearance on MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn's "No Fuckin' Regrets With Robb Flynn" podcast, Brian "Head" Welch — who left KORN in early 2005, at the same time announcing that he kicked his addictions to drugs and alcohol by becoming a born-again Christian — spoke about the impact his new awareness has had on his life, his family and the influential rock act that he co-founded nearly 30 years ago. Asked if he thinks religion became his "new addiction" after his exit from KORN, Welch said (see video below): "The crazy thing is I had an experience with something from another dimension. And it wasn't the religion — going to church and being a good boy — it was, like, I felt something come into my house, and I can't explain it to this day. But I believe that it was Christ doing something in me. So that was real — that was very real. But yes, I think I went too far with it. And I got obsessed with it, just like I was obsessed with the drugs. I believe I did, for sure. And I had to come out of that and find normalcy, because there's nothing worse than a freakin' irritating religious person just shoving it down your throat — there's nothing worse than that. And you saw it on the documentary ['Loud Krazy Love', which documents Brian's journey towards sobriety], Jonathan's [Davis, KORN singer], like, 'I hate those motherfuckers.' People can't stand 'em. And for years, we've had those Christians outside of KORN concerts, saying KORN's of the devil, and all this. It's crazy — it's a crazy thing. But I'm just glad I got through it. And I'm glad that I am who I am now, and I have a lot of peace and rest for my soul. I feel very leveled and at peace with myself."

Less than a month after leaving KORN, Welch — wearing a white robe and sporting a long beard — was baptized in Israel's Jordan River, along with about 20 other members of the Valley Bible Fellowship, the Bakersfield, California, church in which he spoke two weekends earlier. At the time, Brian told MTV News that he decided to be baptized in the Jordan after receiving a divine message.

"God told me ... he didn't say, 'Hey Brian!,' I just got a feeling in my heart that he was going to let me know something, I was going to be told something [in Israel]," Welch said. "Because the pastor is going to dunk me in the Jordan River, and when I come back here, I'm going to be a different person."

Welch officially returned to KORN in 2013, one year after joining the band onstage at the Carolina Rebellion festival in Rockingham, North Carolina to perform "Blind".

Since his conversion to Christ 16 years ago, Welch has been very open about how God changed his lifestyle and restored his relationship with his daughter.

In recent years, Brian has been preaching that people don't have to wait until they die to see if having an encounter with the presence of God is real.

Both Welch and KORN bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu have had highly public, though separate, conversion experiences, ones that have been greeted with a certain amount of skepticism.

KORN's latest album, "The Nothing", was released in September 2019 via Roadrunner/Elektra. The follow-up to 2016's "The Serenity Of Suffering" was once again produced by Nick Raskulinecz.

Welch's LOVE AND DEATH project released its second album, "Perfectly Preserved", on February 12 via Earache Records.

I won't suffer through the insufferable Robb Flynn to hear the interview. Although I really want to hear it from the horse's mouth for the lulz.

This guy went so overboard with his Jesus addiction. It put Dave Mustaine to shame.

It's so strange to see how in the absence of illicit substances the addict just gets addicted to something more benign and acceptable. And only now he sees that he might have gone overboard? Yet he still thinks Jesus himself came over for a housecall. Maybe he fell off the wagon? I wouldn't be totally surprised if a person with a history of addiction and an addictive personality can get so high on Jesus that they straight up hallucinate his presence.

Sorry Head, you're still a loon.

I'm reminded of the Alice In Chains song Get Born Again. It's so easy to pick the holes out in these things. Just repeat a couple lines.

Like I'm glad it helped you with your addiction. But it seems a lot of musicians who have this experience just trade booze and drugs for Jesus and become total religious douchenuts.

How bad was having veganism forced on her that she willingly accepted McDonald's nuggets?
Kids want meat! This isn't even a political statement or an ethical one. It would be great if the vegans were right and we could all live in peace and harmony with animals all kumbaya and drumb circles, but we're obligate omnivores. Babies know this instinctively.

Will Jeff Bezos release 'Apprentice' footage after Amazon acquisition of MGM?

The Amazon acquisition of MGM Studios may mean a potentially uncomfortable situation for former President Donald Trump thanks to alleged outtakes from "The Apprentice" now being in the hands of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

With Amazon poised to acquire the legendary film studio, it means that the corporate giant - which boasts Bezos as its largest individual shareholder - would own the rights to the back catalog of the reality TV series that saw the former president put potential employees and celebrities through various tests to determine who would be granted his apprentice in the business world.

MGM gained control of the series in 2014 when it bought a majority interest in One Three Media, the company then run by Mark Burnett who produced "The Apprentice," Survivor" and several other reality show hits. Following the sale, MGM named Burnett the head of its newly revived United Artists Media Group. The following year, Burnett sold the remaining 45% of One Three Media to MGM and became head of the studio's worldwide TV group and a power broker at the studio.

In light of Amazon's acquisition of MGM, some are speculating that Bezos may leave the company - he is stepping down as Amazon's CEO on July 5 - with a treasure trove of dirt on the former president.

Bezos was a frequent target of Trump during his presidency, which could come back to bite him now that the Amazon billionaire could control the release of outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage from the reality series that some, such as actor Tom Arnold, allege shows Trump making various lewd, demeaning and sexist language while on set and pointing out which contestants he would like to have sex with.

Although MGM owned the rights prior to the Amazon acquisition, it previously explained to The Associated Press that it still faced legal hurdles with the content, and therefore could not release it to the public.

MGM attorney Marvin S. Putnam said in a statement to the AP in 2016 that such agreements "typically contain provisions related to confidentiality and artists' rights." While those agreements were negotiated by Burnett's company, as owner of that company, he said MGM would honor those rights.

In a joint statement at the time, Burnett hoped to quell criticism that was protecting Trump on the campaign trail from potentially damaging footage. He noted that MGM owns the rights and he is not in a position to unilaterally release anything.

MGM added, "Various contractual and legal requirements also restrict MGM's ability to release such material."

In a statement to FOX Business on Thursday, a rep for MGM reiterated the same statement from years ago, noting: "MGM Studios owns The Apprentice and all its materials, including all footage. While MGM owns all footage, various contractual and legal requirements restrict MGM's ability to release such material."

The question now is whether or not Amazon Studios will be tied up with similar restrictions?

PIERS MORGAN: Narcissistic Naomi's cynical exploitation of mental health to silence the media is right from the Meghan and Harry playbook of wanting their press cake and eating it

Naomi Osaka is a brilliant tennis player.

The big-serving Japanese star is the first Asian woman to become No1 in the world rankings and has won four Grand Slam singles titles.

She is also the highest-paid female athlete in the world, raking in $55.2 million in the past 12 months, $5.2 million from tennis winnings and $50 million from endorsement deals with the likes of Nike, Beats by Dre, Mastercard and Nissin.

In fact, according to sports business data firm Sportico, she is only trailing three active athletes in the annual money stakes: Roger Federer ($84 million), LeBron James ($70 million), and Tiger Woods ($62 million).

Unfortunately, Ms Osaka is also an arrogant spoiled brat whose fame and fortune appears to have inflated her ego to gigantic proportions.

How else to explain her extraordinary decision to announce she will no longer participate in media press conferences, supposedly to protect her mental health?

Petulant Osaka was fined $15,000 for refusing to appear in front of the media during the current French Open Roland-Garros tournament, and a joint statement from all four Grand Slam organisers said she will face 'more substantial fines and future Grand Slam suspensions' if she continues her boycott.

Of course, given that she earns around $6,000 an hour, Osaka will recoup this fine while she sleeps tonight, rendering the fine utterly meaningless.

What's not meaningless is her frankly contemptible attempt to avoid legitimate media scrutiny by weaponizing mental health to justify her boycott.

In an Instagram statement, Osaka wrote: 'I've often felt that people have no regard for athletes mental health and this rings very true whenever I see a press conference or partake in one. We're often sat there and asked questions that we've been asked multiple times before or asked questions that bring doubt into our minds and I'm just not going to subject myself to people that doubt me. I've watched many clips of athletes breaking down after a loss in the press room and I know you have as well. I believe that whole situation is kicking a person while they're down and I don't understand the reasoning behind it. Me not doing press is nothing personal to the tournament and a couple of journalists have interviewed me since I was young so I have a friendly relationship with most of them. However, if the organizations think that they can just keep saying, 'do press or you're gonna be fined', and continue to ignore the mental health of the athletes that are the centerpiece of their cooperation than I just gotta laugh.'

I read this orgy of narcissistic twaddle several times with mounting fury.

One thing's very clear: this has got nothing to do with mental health.

What Osaka really means is that she doesn't want to face the media if she hasn't played well, because the beastly journalists might actually dare to criticize her performance, and she's not going to 'subject' herself to 'people that doubt me.'

And the problem with the French Open is that it takes place on clay, her statistically weakest surface, so she probably won't win it, and when she loses, she'll be asked why she isn't as good on clay.

In other words, she has no problem with the media lauding her undeniable brilliance with a tennis racket, right to the point they say anything negative, however reasonably and fact-based, because then they're damaging her mental health.

This is straight out of the Meghan and Harry playbook of wanting to have the world's largest cake and eating it, by exploiting the media for ruthlessly commercial self-promotion but using mental health to silence any media criticism.

And I'm sorry (not really…) if this offends any of the delicate little snowflakes out there who believe all this self-serving garbage, but Osaka's antics stink of a stupendous ego raging out control.

The journalists she is lambasting earn a tiny fraction of what she earns, yet nobody can point to anything that's ever happened in a Naomi Osaka press conference which could be remotely construed as unfair, rude or potentially damaging to her mental health.

In fact, the tennis media are generally regarded as one of the most professional and respectful groups of journalists in world sport.

So, for them now all to be tarred with the brush of uncaring incompetents just because they won't suck up to Ms Osaka in the unctuous non-critical way she expects, is disgraceful.

Commendably, and ironically, many other top tennis stars have criticized her stance.

'Without the press,' said Rafael Nadal, 'without the people who normally travel, who are writing the news and achievements that we are having around the world, probably we will not be the athletes that we are today. We (aren't) going to have the recognition that we have around the world, and we will not be that popular, no?'

He was backed by Billie-Jean King who said: 'I have always believed that as professional athletes we have a responsibility to make ourselves available to the media. In our day, without the press, nobody would have known who we are or what we thought. They helped build and grow our sport into what it is today.'

Exactly.

It's the largely exultant and celebratory media coverage that's made Naomi Osaka a fabulously rich superstar - and allowed her to be a high-profile social issue activist too, using the media to promote her support for organisations like Black Lives Matter.

But rather than feel grateful, she now wants to control how the media speaks about her like some kind of dictator.

Some tennis legends were far harsher in their critique of Osaka's conduct.

'Why should she be treated any differently to the other players?' Mats Wilander, the former world No 1, told Eurosport. 'She definitely has to do press. We are all struggling with mental issues these days during the pandemic, but Naomi, I think you need to reconsider or, I would say, don't play in the tournament until you are ready to face the job.'

The top-ranked woman player, Ash Barty, suggested Osaka take herself a tad less seriously: 'Press is part of the job. We know what we sign up for as professional tennis players. At times, press conferences are hard, of course, but it's also not something that bothers me. ... For me, personally, it doesn't keep me up at night what I say and hear or what you guys ask me. So, I try and make it a little bit lighter and have a bit of fun with you guys.'

Daniil Medvedev, the No. 2-ranked man in tennis, even said that press scrutiny can help his mental health – finding it cathartic after a loss.

'I try always to come to a press conference,' he said, 'bad mood or good mood. And I feel like, even sometimes in the bad mood, I can be in a better mood after talking to you guys.'

This Osaka nonsense sadly epitomises the state of the woke-ravaged world today.

We're seeing mental health being used more and more as an excuse for deplorable behaviour.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex use it constantly as a protective shield to launch savage attacks on the Royal Family, and to get journalists like me who don't believe them fired.

A celebrity TV doctor in the UK, Christian Jessen, is facing bankruptcy after losing a $500,000 libel case in which he laughably blamed his mental health for why he posted a tweet falsely claiming a senior Northern Ireland politician had been having an extra-marital affair.

He even used it to try to persuade people to crowdfund his costs, saying: 'It's obviously not helped my mental health in any way at all and while I'm keeping afloat at the moment, I can feel it cracking.'

Oh, diddums. Anyone would think Jessen was the real victim, not the woman he smeared with vicious lies.

'Anger is a lack of understanding,' an unrepentant Naomi Osaka tweeted last night. 'Change makes people uncomfortable.'

No, Naomi.

What's made people 'uncomfortable' is you trivializing mental illness to protect yourself from fair media criticism.

It's the worst kind of cynical exploitative bullsh*t which will distract attention from those with real mental illness who desperately need help.

We're not angry because we don't understand it, we're angry because we see right through it.

And to anyone who dares criticie me for saying this, STOP – you're damaging my mental health.

PIERS MORGAN: Narcissistic Naomi's cynical exploitation of mental health to silence the media is right from the Meghan and Harry playbook of wanting their press cake and eating it

What's made people 'uncomfortable' is you [Ed: Naomi] trivializing mental illness to protect yourself from fair media criticism.
I'm so high up on the fence right now... on the one hand, fuck the media, fuck this crybaby article (since when does anyone have ANY obligation to talk to the media?), and fuck all journalists. Yeah it's clickbait, but imagine writing this like it's something for normal people to be outraged about. Just stick to ragebait about how whitey is killing minorities or whatever.

On the other hand, this bitch is exceptional. Of all the reasons (in the billions at last count) to criticize the media and not talk to them, her reasoning is that filthy rich leisure sports players like herself (seriously, tennis is basically on the same level as volleyball) shouldn't ever be asked any questions about their gay hobby and should only be praised for whacking a ball around successfully.

50 million dollars to shill garbage for multinationals. It'll be worth it living in a hut with no electricity just to see all these people's careers destroyed forever.

I'm putting this here because there isn't a lot of new info about the case right now so I don't think it warrants a full thread.

https://6abc.com/after-murder-conviction-vacated-walter-ogrod-sues-philadelphia/10733665/

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The man who served nearly three decades on death row for a murder he says he did not commit is suing the city of Philadelphia.

Walter Ogrod was convicted in the July 1988 murder of 4-year-old Barbara Jean Horn.

Her body was found stuffed in a television box on a curb in front of her Castor Gardens home.

Nearly a year ago, a Common Pleas judge overturned the conviction.

RELATED: Walter Ogrod, man serving time for murder of 4-year-old Barbara Jean Horn, freed on bail

Ogrod always maintained his innocence, saying the confession he gave was coerced by cops.

Ogrod went to trial twice - the first was declared a mistrial. He was convicted in October of 1996.

Action News reported in January that, according to the family and a recent court filing, male DNA found on the body of Horn is not that of Walter Ogrod.

Now, his attorney said he wants to hold the city and the officers involved in the wrongful conviction responsible.

RELATED: New DNA evidence could free man behind bars for 1988 murder of Barbara Jean Horn

Barbara Jean's mother said previously she believes his innocence.

"I believe firmly he was wrongly convicted," she said. "We hope that we get to have the person who took Barbara Jean away from us to pay for the crimes that he did."

Barbara Jean Horn's murder has not yet been solved.

- - -

I remember when this happened. I was a little kid myself but old enough to read the paper pretty well. It was all over the news. Barbara Jean Horn was murdered at some point while attempting to visit a friend. After Adam Walsh people tended to be more strict about such things. But kids were still a lot more free range then they are now.

Her body was placed in a TV box. People had their garbage out for pickup that day and a couple out walking happened to notice something odd about the box and opened it. Apparently someone witnessed a man identified as Walter Ogrod dragging the box to the curb. It was not placed outside his house and I don't think the property it was placed at was linked in any way. Ogrod was a boarder at the house Barbara Jean's friend lived at and has been described as a bit slow. He always maintained the confession was coerced. DNA evidence has proven he did not sexually assault or murder Barbara Jean.

As much as I hate DA Krasner I'm glad that someone finally decided to review this case. It's interesting that prosecutors had blocked the DNA from being tested for so long. This guy was on death row for Barbara Jean's murder. Even her own mother believed Ogrod was innocent. A pedophile has enjoyed over 30 years of freedom because of this.

The police snitch used in the case had a history of lying.

The area where Barbara Jean Horn and Walter Ogrod lived was pretty nice back then. A crime like this was shocking.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-06-02/wa-govt-bans-wicked-campers-offensive-slogans/100185866 (Archive)

Offensive slogans on vehicles such as those on the notorious Wicked Campers fleet of camper vans will be banned under new laws being introduced by the West Australian government.

More than 70 complaints have been upheld against Wicked Campers, a Brisbane-based company whose brightly coloured campervans are spray-painted with a variety of offensive and sexist messages.

The cheap hire vehicles are aimed at the backpacker market.

Letters asking for the vehicles to be banned have also been received by the Transport Minister's office and that of the Minister for Women's Interests.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the slogans on such vehicles were "tired, outdated, sexist and demeaning" and it was time for them to be outlawed.

The legislative change will allow vehicle licences to be cancelled or refused if vehicles are displaying offensive slogans.

Several other states have already taken action to ban the slogans, including South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania and New South Wales.

"I have driven behind these sorts of vehicles with my young children in the car and I have no words to describe to them what these horrible slogans mean," she said.

"While we haven't seen many of these vehicles on the road lately, we are drafting legislation that will allow us to cancel or refuse licences for vehicles with these sorts of slogans and images."

The legislation is set to be introduced into Parliament later this year.

Container ship collision at Port of Kaohsiung causes crane collapse: one injured

https://taiwanenglishnews.com/conta...-kaohsiung-causes-crane-collapse-one-injured/ (https://archive.ph/RiLHX)

One person was injured and two people were trapped in the wreckage after a container ship in the process of docking collided with another ship, causing two container cranes to collapse at the Port of Kaohsiung today, June 3.

At around 11:30 am the 316-meter-long, 86,679 gross tonnage container ship DURBAN, owned by OOCL Shipping Company, was attempting to dock at pier 66, when it sideswiped the 32,720 gross tonnage YONGYANG, belonging to Yangming Shipping, that was docked at pier 70.

The collision caused one of four container cranes, GC8 to collapse. GC8 collapsed onto GC6, causing it also to go down. Workers ran for their lives as two container cranes began to crumple to the ground. As the cranes collapsed, they hit a stack of containers, causing it also to collapse.

The accident left one worker slightly injured, and two operators trapped inside the cranes.

The injured 58-year-old man, named Zhang, was treated at Yuan’s General Hospital for a cut on his forearm, and abrasions on one foot. Zhang also had x-rays taken to check for internal injuries as he was suffering from chest discomfort.

The trapped workers were finally extracted at 12:44 pm and are reported to be uninjured.

The Port of Kaohsiung is Taiwan’s largest port, and the 15th largest port in the world. Around three-quarters of Taiwan’s container throughput enters and exits via the Port of Kaohsiung.
