Internet Historian Appreciation Thread - The best thing to come out of Austrailia since Mad Max (The original, obviously)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
He had one several years back. Was a pretty chill place starting out. There were movie nights, fanart contests, channels dedicated to shitposting, posting original artwork, and even research into potential video topics (I was able to help with at least one of the vids way back). Unfortunately, the server was mostly made up of high schoolers and college kids that formed their own cliques. So naturally, they took it upon themselves to bully and harass new members that just joined and were hoping to hang out in the guy’s server. Some of the old members themselves would get banned for doxing, posting gore or nsfw pics of underage anime characters, etc, and then try to return to the server under sock accounts. This lead to the server being locked for at least a couple years, with Patreon being the only way for new members to join. Rather than just moving on, banned members took it upon themselves to migrate over to “refugee” servers where they’d keep tabs of what was going on in the main server. Internet Historian unsurprisingly grew pretty detached from the server over the years and eventually decided to shut it all down last year. I don’t blame the guy, given how he didn’t want to get involved in sorting out any of the ridiculous drama himself.

There are a few specific instances of drama that I vaguely remember and can share some other time or privately. For now, I’d rather avoid derailing this thread given how it’s meant to talk about his videos and not the defunct discord server.
Couldn't they just migrate over to Sseth's discord server or something instead? as much as I find his videos amusing, I can't imagine how much of a cesspool Sseth's discord server must be.

I don’t understand what you’re asking me.

Ah, no wonder the video was off-schedule, he put so much effort into it. Damn. Good watch.

I have a fleeting memory of the Concordia since seeing a picture of a cruise ship floating on its side isn't something you'd forget so easily. I dunno how Internet legendary it is outside of Italian circles, though, but just because he's called the Internet Historian doesn't mean he does just Internet history. He just so happens to be a historian on the Internet, and he can report on whatever he wants.

I meant to say, that maybe he could just have them go somewhere else instead of them pestering his server like that. I guess I imagine he tried to manage it to the best of his abilities but it got out of hand pretty quick.

Anyways, really good video, I totally forgot about the Costa Concordia.

Asking the “oldfag” members to just stop bothering other members and kindly leave is laughable. Most of them were emboldened to keep pushing the envelope as to try and see what kind of shit they could get away with, which lead to a ton of spats with the mods*. And again, even for the ones who eventually got banned, they still kept tabs on the server by setting up alternative “refuge” servers where existing members would share info with them.
One of the worst examples I could recall involved IH making one of his Patrons a moderator. Iirc, bunch of the old members felt as though she was “paying for power” or some shit, since nearly all other mods were regular users prior to joining staff. This somehow lead to them finding her nudes floating around online, which were apparently posted by an ex-boyfriend as some kind of revenge porn-type shit. After her dox was dropped on the server and a bunch of the users expressed their disdain for her, she eventually stepped down from the role. I think she pretty much left the server entirely as well, though that part I’m unsure of.

Almost any main channel video he puts out is guaranteed to be good. Even for some of his less favorable entries, the quality’s always solid.

"4: There are a couple of secret channels as well, but I ain't telling where they are."
Is he talking about his twitch and other non-youtube accounts?
Edit: literally typing internet historian on youtube and filtering through channels pulls them up.

I started watching his videos probably with Fall of 76, and the guy is my second favorite youtube channel after RLM. The subject matter is always interesting and then his Sumito videos on the Incognito channel are nice upgrades from the podcast format youtubers use now with all the animations and screen extras.

The Concordia video and Gentleman Pirate shows he has legitimate talent in filmmaking and how you can rewatch the videos and keep finding new things and information. Plus him not being a complete virtue signaling bitch helps out, he feels like one of the more honest youtubers out there with solid level of based that has shown up in the past year with his Varus videos. On his twitch clip channel I was glad he flat out said something along the lines of "I don't know why people say streaming games is tough, you need a handful of things and that's it, this is fucking easy and I get paid for it."

Since he mentioned that he has a bunch of secret channels at the end of Cost of Concordia, here's a few of them. Internet Historian: Live, where he posts edited stream videos. Internet Historian Green Screens, where he posts edits from his videos. Storymode, where he does summaries of video games.

Internet Historian Reuploads isn't confirmed to be him. It doesn't have his video where he makes webcomics with Merryweather, but I assume he didn't want people bullying literal who artists.

Also, Herstorian has a channel where she... reads encyclopedia articles.... Sometimes multiple times a day.

I figured this would be worth posting. IH keeps a Trello board up and running to keep people informed on his current projects. Everything is subject to change, of course, but he updates it regularly and it's a convenient way of keeping an eye out for his uploads. If all goes well we should have an 'In the Field' in March.
