heck u chongqing and sgail are kino and the train mission is cringe for being too linear

I don't hate Bangkok. Its pretty. The lobby is gorgeous. I love the sunset. And I especially love that the target is a whiny skrillex type manchild that you get to essentially torture to death however you want.

I hope David and Jane continue to play 47 and Diana. They're so iconic together. (They even met for the first time for lunch in the UK a year or two ago)

I am surprised they haven't done a Korea level. Or maybe Vietnam? Or Singapore. Australia? Idk. I would like a female assassin. Don't get me wrong 47 is based as fuck. It would just be interesting to La Femme Nikita people.

What's everyone's thoughts on the new Ambrose island level? It just felt like the haven island and mumbai level mashed together to me.

In preparation for freelancer in like almost 24 hours i decided to tier list all the suits, maps and individual targets with my most updated thoughts (at least using the newest tier lists i could find, im pretty sure the suits are already out-dated). if anyone else wants to give their reasoning or challenge my thoughts i'd love to hear it and contribute your own. heres the ones i used:

Why is Bangkok so low? Morgan being such an easy kill is lame but Zaydan is also a really easy kill in Marrakesh and getting to Cross especially suit only is really fun.

I liked it as a take off on the old trope of Hitman final levels being more action oriented, but in the WoA style. There's three cool ways to do that level it's just that that's the only three ways, but it lets you appreciate the other maps and Ambrose made up for the "it took away a slot" meme

it's amazing how I love Vivienne but Jane came in like a mere seven years ago and instantly became as iconic and beloved as Dave Bateson for that voice by just putting more into it

I really liked it. I feel like it's interesting seeing what maps each season was inspired by, and how budget effected that, 2 took after Sapienza but due to making it into a full game they put targets in every biome of the map to maximize how much the player would visit of each area. 3 took more after Hokkaido, Whittleton and New York, dialing back the scope and size while trying to keep the same complexity. However in its attempt to refine the map design while doing more linear story beats fitted onto the map, it sanded off a bit too much, and each map kind of lost that "I want to live here for awhile" quality that the Season 2 maps mastered. Ambrose brought it back, there's a ton of pointless little areas off the beaten path in that map that are used as alternate entrances in but can also be kinda used for contracts and replays and such. It's also got cool gimmicks, like I love the ruins having bombable walls to make your own pathways. Speaking of which, that's a reused asset from Sapienza and the map's reuse of assets is pretty cool because it feels charming how makeshift everything is even if I do admit it loses a lot of potential atmosphere original assets couldve had. Tho if having to make more assets meant they couldnt have done those little gimmicks I'd rather have the asset reuse. The map's big enough imo but not too big, it feels bigger than it is because of different biomes and vantage points, and I like the targets just fine. The warring factions thing is cool and different and their routines are decent
I want my fucking Mini Ninjas II you danish fucks.
Squeenix took the ninja kids in the divorce :(
Whole-heartedly agree except on Sgail, which actually becomes really fun on a suit-only SA run to the point where it feels like it was specifically designed just for that, and Mumbai, which I feel like I must be missing something on because everyone seems to like that map but I only really enjoyed the film studio target part.
I just hate the routines of those targets lol, theyre pretty dull and lack a lot of cool exploitable details i like in a level. like for example wouldnt it be cool if these twin sisters could actually meet and that could factor into your runs? But Mumbai is great to me because it's got that quality that makes me want to stick around, sure it's a shithole but it's so well realized in how realistically shitty it looks, it also is really cool to suit only especially since there's multiple mission stories that are suit only-able
Why is Bangkok so low? Morgan being such an easy kill is lame but Zaydan is also a really easy kill in Marrakesh and getting to Cross especially suit only is really fun.
theres a ton of stuff that make a hitman map for me, namely a combination of difficulty in suit only while balancing flexibility in different routes, a good linear path, a good map layout, good target routines and even story is factored in. Jordan Cross I do like, he's got a good routine and a good personality for a target and I do find the suit only route to get to him fun because it's challenging. It's even got that "I want to live here" quality. However what I dont like is that there's only one route to get to Jordan, because that's the only route you have in that whole building. It's a lot like the Chongqing level, where I feel like I'm funneled to one specific route because the building is poorly designed. Compared to Paris, the building doesnt flow well at all. The Cross wing feels like it doesnt connect to the rest of the map well because it's not got any good ways into it and have one linear staircase upwards and one pipe on some specific floors. Berlin has sort of that but it also has a ton of connected bits into itself. Whittleton has sort of a similar thing of a lack of routes but that makes sense because it's suburbia and it's a small building not a multi-floor complex hotel. So it's a thing of like there's one mechanically fun route to do it and then every other route you experiment with is frustrating. Ken is a free kill if you use accidents but trying to do like a fibre wire or sniper route is pretty piss poor because his route is a bit too exposed all the time while also being very short and I dont think that reflects his personality well. For example, Silvio Caruso's personality is he doesnt like travelling and he takes advantage of how prestigious he is in his company to have him bend over backwards for him. He has a short route where he spends a lot of the time on his mansion grounds doing a lot of leisure activities, in view of a lot of people working for him, before briefly entering his office to make notes and he only leaves his mansion when scared and even then it's to go underground. His route reflects his personality and his personality opens up good gameplay scenarios. I dont feel like Ken does that. It's a shame because there's maps that are more flexible, but are way too easy, so I like the challenge Bangkok does but it's so shit to play because it lacks flexibility. Mumbai, Haven, even Colorado does challenge + flexibility + suit only way better. I also didnt enjoy the challenge grinding in Bangkok because I think it was Ken that ran out of challenges long before Jordan did

@BetterFuckChuck See that's exactly what I like about Bangkok, Diana tells you upfront that Cross basically has an entire wing to himself and that it's his staff that are allowed in, not the hotel's, which forces the player to think about their usual "knock out a guard and have free run of the place" strategy. I will concede suit only replays aren't as fun, though, the map could probably have benefited from a hallway or ledge connecting Ken Morgan's suite to Jordan's.

there's kind of that with that little roof area but even that feels very limited, there's a pipe on it that leads to an area you never go to and then there's either a door that takes you to the cross cake area or to the area you use to get the letter that has the pipe you use for the suit only route. i wouldnt want the map geometry to change because it's nice to have something different even if I dont like it but more climbing areas on that roof and on cross' suite wouldve made that level way better, or to preserve the challenge maybe a way to climb onto the stairs to open up another route tho one with more NPCs

I feel like Hitman 2 and Absolution kind of set 47 up to not be willing to kill children, or at the very least, accept a contract on them.
Why would anyone hire the ICA to kill a kid anyway? I assume it costs a lot of money so chances are it'd be an adult who would have done something to really piss someone off and want them dead, it's kind of a stretch to say a kid could piss anyone off enough who would have the money.

Anyway, any love for Freedom Fighters here? It reminds me of the good old days when most games would try to tell a movie like story (with still plenty of gameplay), which games today are moving away from, there's either little to no story or too much focus on story.

The game ended with it being clear that though NYC was liberated (but reduced to mostly burning rubble in the process lol) the war was just beginning, it'd be cool to see a sequel.

Anyone excited for freelancer mode today? I'm gonna give it a bash after work.

I wouldnt mind a Greta Thunberg knockoff for an elusive target.

For every owner of HITMAN 3 who got the game before today: There was a 5.2GB patch and the content of HITMAN 1 + 2 is now playable. On 7PM CET (1PM EST, 10AM PST for muttland) World Of Assassination with the Freelancer Update goes live, servers are down until that.

I legit didn't mind Bangkok or Colorado but they'd be much more enjoyable if unlocks weren't tied to getting SOSA in both of those levels. If anything I was relieved to just stop trying SOSA runs once the unlock hit and using the costumed scenarios to off them are much more enjoyable.

It's just wild how Sgail and Paris both have tall buildings with lots of entry points and ways of scaling the place and yet Bangkok has so few. A drainpipe from the the middle roof area the Jordon Cross room at the very top would have fixed everything and still left room to manoeuvre because you'd still have to get downstairs and avoid everyone in the glass room.

Freelancer is awesome. It's the best new addition theyve had to the game in years (barring ofc. each new game getting new maps, but ofc. the maps will be good - unless theyre dartmoor or chongqing). I found myself actually engaged because of how they let you do some light roleplay and strategizing as well as not knowing what's gonna happen next while still rewarding your level design knowledge. I actually found myself enjoying the game on maps I usually dislike because what I was doing on the map was fun. I've still not managed to finish a full campaign yet, and I have like 3000 hours on the trilogy. I hope they keep adding to this, it's probably gonna be my default way to play for a long while, because I've been looking for something new since I squeezed dry the blood out of every map's main mission. Only bad thing is there's apparently microtransactions that give you exclusive skins and safehouse decor, which sucks. Granted, it's not that bad as they did do a year of support and this will likely fund a year three potentially but it's still something to look out for. Like the 7DS I'll just get it on a giftcard. If they sold bonus missions I'd get those immediately

I like it well enough, it gives more context as to why you're going back to maps compared to escalations or contracts, but I honestly would rather have entirely new maps with new targets compared to them doing an entire year of Freelancer stuff and I'd probably have preferred bonus missions that change the map a la Hitman 1 and 2 over Freelancer too. But hey, if they add new maps and new targets so that they can have more content for Freelancer, that's fine by me. Honestly, I knew they were gearing up for something like this when I played Chongqing, but I can't say I'm a fan of them destroying the ICA, especially with how abrupt it was. I'm sure they'll contrive an excuse to go back to the normal formula with the next entry though.

Freelancer is amazing. The prestige contracts (Accidental Kill - [enter random stage hazard]) are shit.
