IO Interactive General Thread - Developers of Project 007, Hitman, Freedom Fighters, Kane & Lynch (and Mini Ninjas)

So what's Freelancer? Just like an epilogue explaining why he's still killing people on challenge maps?
It's basically a Hitman randomizer. Cartels around the world are up to no good, so you need to go hit two regular targets and then a boss target with lookalikes you have to deduct using a series of clues. You get random challenges that may or may not even be possible, like assassinating your target in an accident, or hiding all bodies, or using a silenced weapon (on a map with none to find, and also you have none in your inventory). You can be a little sloppy and get away with killing non-targets with no penalty, but you don't just start every map with a gun and a few other items of your choice, so you have to use what's already there. It's very difficult and you will die in bullshit situations a lot. It's kind of fun, but has its problems. You will suffer greatly on any maps you don't know like the back of your hand.

I actually thought the same thing, but I just noticed you get a small penalty of -50 Hitman Bucks (tm) for killing non-targets. It's basically negligible since you can get ~1200 of the currency from couriers and lucky crate finds.

I agree on the difficulty - it's especially punishing on the Hitman 1 maps where you can get stuck with a target that doesn't leave a crowded area even if you pull an alarm. The guards are also fucking surgeons if they are using pistols and will turn you into swiss cheese pretty quickly.

If you don't mind cheating though, you can ctrl-alt-delete and close the game when shit goes sideways (as long as you aren't dead) and when you log back in, you'll be in the safehouse with all your money and items still.

Some targets will have an assassin nearby them, which can two-shot you if you go into Combat with them.

I like it well enough, it gives more context as to why you're going back to maps compared to escalations or contracts, but I honestly would rather have entirely new maps with new targets compared to them doing an entire year of Freelancer stuff and I'd probably have preferred bonus missions that change the map a la Hitman 1 and 2 over Freelancer too. But hey, if they add new maps and new targets so that they can have more content for Freelancer, that's fine by me. Honestly, I knew they were gearing up for something like this when I played Chongqing, but I can't say I'm a fan of them destroying the ICA, especially with how abrupt it was. I'm sure they'll contrive an excuse to go back to the normal formula with the next entry though.
it's entireoly possible there will be bonus missions with freelancer support - because when hitman 2 came out the special assignments had difficulty levels but the bonus missions from h1 werent updated to have the three dificulty levels added in the sequel. so it might be a case like that again where all new missions get freelancer support during the development of them but nothing that was released before will get it unless they make time for it due to demand or money

"We've found the syndicate leader, 47! We've got intel on them down to exactly what they'll be wearing, hair color, whether or not they have a tattoo, and their habits"

"No, we're not telling you their race or sex, that would be politically incorrect"
its randomly generated for you do to the guesswork by observing their tells so i can excuse it

"A new adventure begins at IOI.

Join the party and help us realize our vision for a bold new online fantasy RPG.

It has now been a decade since we first imagined creating a new “World of Assassination” for our HITMAN games. Seven years ago, we launched that world in its infancy and nurtured it to grow to comprise three full games, exciting new game modes, many additional locations, and extra targets. And more importantly, it has allowed us to build a bond with our community that has supported us ever since. We have gone from a strong vision, through a lot of unforeseen events, to the ever-expanding world with freedom of approach in its core that we have today.

Now we are sharing with all of you, that we are embarking on a new adventure! One that expands our creativity, our capabilities, and in some sense our identity. We are building a new world, a new IP – an online fantasy RPG. A world and a game built from the core to entertain players and expand for many years to come. It feels familiar, yet at the same time IOI is going on a journey unlike any we have been on before.

For many, this journey is also a deeply personal one that began long before we started making games for a living – and it started with the fantasy genre. From the “Fighting Fantasy” books compelling you to choose your path, alone, against wizards, lizards, and thief kings. To the togetherness, camaraderie, agony, and delight found around the tabletop. For some it meant taking the role of a game master: Part storyteller, part AI opponent, part guide, part villain. For everyone around that table it meant creativity, imagination, building a world together, and a shared goal in creating a great game experience.

This idea – that a diverse group of individuals with different skills and strengths can work together and become more than the sum of their parts – is what inspires us. It inspires the fantasy world we are building – and it inspires how we build it. IOI now spans multiple distinct studios, from Copenhagen and Malmö in the north to warm Barcelona in the south. All studios take part in making all our games, including this new endeavor. People from all over the world with diverse personalities and skillsets are coming together to forge a new beginning.

This is just the start of our journey into this new world we are making. We hope you sense the warmth, the danger, the togetherness, and the heart we put into it… And if you do, we would be honored if you join us.

This Spring we're getting:
- A suit unlock from completing Hardcore Mode in Freelancer
- The exploding pen from blowing up Craig Black during his reading in a bonus mission
- A patch working on QoL features and bugfixes, with a focus on Freelancer and addressing a memory leak issue
- Contracts Mode support for the tutorial mission on the Yacht

After Spring we're getting:
- Eight new unlocks via challenges/challenge packs, likely for the leaked suits like The Codename 47 suit, the Sniper Suit, the Stadia Suit, etc.
- Contracts Mode support for both Christmas missions
- Two additonal patches
- At least one new Escalation, according to their blog post announcing this

And Elusive Targets will be rerun often as you can see

They announced some ET of a musician I've never heard of.
Not quite the same level as gary busey or sean bean. Honestly this feels like the Alesso DLC in payday 2.
Hmm, that does seem interesting

Absolute bullshit that I can't just buy Hitman 3. I own 1&2 and now they want me to pay $70 for the WOA bundle. I'm not paying again for 2 games that I already own just to get Hitman 3. Tried pirating Hitman 3 and using Peacock to get emulated online access but can't get it working correctly. Only get access to base game and no unlocks or Freelancer mode. Fuck IO Interactive and their always online DRM.
