From what I understood, Johnny Smally may have panic-admitted guilt or he might think that he can plead guilty today and insane tomorrow. Either he blurted out in panic or he thinks he can weasel out afterwards. He was hangover and lacking in sleep afterall.

As for his lawyer, he is a public defender. He has no time to come up with an optimal defense strategy for someone who films his crimes. He is there for 3 things: Translate the legalese, try to ad lib a defense for an idiot and try to ensure his defendant does not make things worse during the trial. He is a public defender. He has a ton of cases every day and he is overworked. Smally is one of many. He probably hates Smally but he will try his best. And, let's face it, the only thing that he could do to stop Smally from embarrassing himself further in court is to physically restrain him. Lawyers have to pray that their client does not behave like an idiot because that is the one thing beyond their control. The judge saw Smally mock people on court, play dumb on where he lives and being all around disrespectful.

I have to ask you this: If you were a public defender, how would you defend Smally? How would you stop him from making an ass of himself? How would you defend him from the fact he admitted he wants to be as bad as he can be on camera? How can one imagine the idiot would get drunk before the trial? How would you try to fix that? And above all this remember, every crime he commited is on camera.

I mean, there is no lawyer in the world that could save Smally. Calling a lawyer (a public defender no less) bad based on the fact he couldn't come up with a successful defense to defend a drunk streamer that films his crimes AND his unrepentant attitude towards the court, Korean people and decency at large. That is calling someone weak because they did not survive a fall from the roof of a skyscraper. No one can pull that off.
