Depending on which drugs Jewel consumed and the frequency and dosages involved in their use (and how far along the baby was when the drugs were in Jewel's system), there could possibly be physiological damage to the little one and potentially developmental issues (slower growth, learning disorders, etc.). Mental issues are more likely than physical ones. The biggest danger (and misery) she faced was immediately following her birth when withdrawals/detox began (because we know damn well Jewel wasn't just smoking weed). That shit is brutal. Besides the very real risk of death (from excessive stress or actual lethal detox symptoms), that's a special kind of agony and suffering for an infant.
I helped take care of a preemie for the first couple of weeks after she was born (wasn't mine, thankfully) to a mother addicted to cocaine. Those screams and cries will never leave me. I've never heard anything else like it and's absolutely soul-crushing. All you can do is provide palliative care and comfort which ultimately means fuck-all to a fiending infant. On the plus side it made me completely immune to being angered/irritated by crying infants and infinitely patient with them, which has helped drop a few panties over the years
Fortunately she pulled through and turned out fine, likely because of her mother's absence from her life. There are plenty of babies born addicted though who
don't fare so well and tend to lead lives of general misery. Fingers crossed that this little one doesn't suffer that fate.
