He was damn near turning purple when help showed up and there was a point when he was about to eat a bunch more pills but he was so fucked up he spilled them all over the ground instead of in his hand to pop them or else he probably would have pulled a Lil' Peep. There was an RV stream where Speedy was super faded passed out and someone rolled him on his side and when they did almost instantly he puked. If that happened while he's on his back and no one's paying attention he probably chokes on it and cashes out on the RV cam. Tons of people are dying out in Venice of fent ODs, it's cut in a ton of street drugs because it's so cheap and a lot of them are rich kids at parties too, so it's definitely not a stretch for anyone on that RV.

These kinds of people will have moments of vulnerability where they will sincerely admit they don't want to die, want to get off drugs, etc in my experience. Generally, someone who cares about them will then have to aggressively pursue treatment for them and be willing to do this repeatedly as relapses occur. How long it takes for an addict to sustainably improve is highly dependent on how much the addict is willing to invest in treatment and in themselves. Their chances proved markedly if their is holistic treatment availible.

My local VA has an 80% success rate keeping formerly homeless vets in stable housing, employed, and engaged in long term treatment at the 2 year evaluation for example. The program involves rapidly getting them into the VA benefits system, VA healthcare system, substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment, getting them out of temporary housing and into an actual apartment in the real world, working with local charities, social workers, employers, etc. It is a very involved process that requires a host of people who give a shit about doing their job, but they've seen great success with vets willing to commit to the program. That kind of treatment just isn't widely available. A friend of mine works for a nearby liberal city and they can't even get the approved homeless shelter built because of NIMBY despite a growing problem.

Addicts will all stumble or fall eventually. The mental health issues many suffer from or they develop over their addiction complicate things. They just have to be willing to get back up and engage the systems and communities that helped in the first place, eventually. Some will, some won't.

A sign of retardation is the inability to fathom the consequences that occur from actions. She's a classic-case.
She's got a lot in common with Tommy - both single kids, acting and looking ten years younger than they are, inability to form deep friendships/relationships, financially dependant on parents, attention seeking behavior and disconnected from reality.
But in Tommy's case, he's full-on DSM V Autistic. But in Jessica's case, I really can't guess what the major malfunction is, nor would I care to.

I don't think she's going to or wants to kill herself, she places no value on anything or anyone and wants attention while getting her lizard brain cravings fed through drugs and alcohol. No concept of consequences. Someone has to care about her enough to pull her out of her spiral down and it's clear that no one does.
