So... there's been some especially fierce protests going on in Iran these past few weeks, after a woman was beaten to death by the morality police for failing to cover her hair completely. Didn't see any threads to gather the stuff going down there so I figured I'd make one.

For those not up to speed:

Two members of Iran's security forces have been killed in continuing protests against the authorities, state media have said.

Videos on social media show students and schoolgirls joining the demonstrations across the country.

Dozens of protesters have been killed since unrest began last month following the death of a young woman in custody.

Mahsa Amini was detained in Tehran by the morality police for allegedly not covering her hair properly.

The 22-year-old Iranian Kurd died in custody on 16 September, three days after her arrest.
One member of the Basij paramilitary militia was "killed by rioters with a gunshot" at one of the protest sites in Tehran, according to Basij News, the official website run by the Basij organisation.

A member of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) was also killed on Saturday during protests in Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan province, Iranian media report.

At least 20 members of the IRGC, Basij and police forces have been killed over the past three weeks of protests, the media say.

Protests over the weekend were reported across the country, including Tehran and Sanandaj.

"Police forces used tear gas to disperse the crowds in dozens of locations in Tehran," the official news agency Irna reported, adding the demonstrators had "chanted slogans and set fire to and damaged public property, including a police booth and trash bins".

In similar protests in a number of other cities, demonstrators hurled Molotov cocktails at mosques, Basij centres and imams' offices, the agency said.

Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has called for tough measures against anyone responsible for cracking down on the protests.

She described those who "beat up women and girls on the street" as being on the wrong side of history, and said she would ensure the EU imposed entry bans on individuals responsible and froze their assets.

And in Norway, the Iran Human Rights group have said 185 people had been killed since the unrest began.

"At least 185 people, including at least 19 children, have been killed in the nationwide protests across Iran. The highest number of killings occurred in Sistan and Baluchistan province with half the recorded number," it said on Saturday.

Separately on Saturday evening, state television was hacked by opponents of the government.

Pictures of the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei with a target on his head appeared in a news bulletin, together with captions calling on people to join the protests.

Also on Saturday, female students at al-Zahra University Tehran were reported to have chanted "get lost" during a visit there by President Ebrahim Raisi.

Some of the usual police brutality:

But also protestors fighting back with some unusual vigor:

Also, reminder that these are the people who are very concerned with the sexual morality of a woman showing a strand of hair:

One of our helpful farmers, Save BBJ, is there joining the protests and all contact has been cut off. Just hope and pray our farmer returns unscathed.

I don't like the Iranian government but these protest seem to be from the Americophile section of Iranian society who want that glorious Sexual Revolution we had. Idk, like em' fight each other, ain't my fight.

I can't take any regime seriously that claims to be defending sexual morality while running prostitution rings and encouraging baby rape.

There were smaller protests the last couple years but these protests are are the largest Iran has had since 1979 and the fact they are gaining momentum and not slowing will make it hard for the mullahs to quell, A possible civil war or regime change shouldn't be overlooked.

I've also seen some instances of Iran using drones on Kurdish villages in Iraq when the protests first began in an attempt to go after who they believe helped spark the protests.

Sanandaj is also close to Iraq

One thing worth mentioning is that Iran is one of the countries that still has conscription and mandatory military training for men, which means you have an absolute boatload of people just floating around who know their way around a gun and have a minimal grasp of tactics. That probably explains some of the stuff you can see in the videos floating around or the dead IRGC members.

Islam is literally based around the abuse, rape and systemic genocide of women and yet 1st world bitches think wearing a hijab is empowerment. If you are a real "feminist" you'd be vehemently against it. But none of them are. They just want to look good for the camera like all the corporate sellouts they claim to hate.

Young women are being kidnapped off the street and tortured to death in Iran for protesting and aren't even given a proper burial, their families aren't allowed to grieve for their dead daughters. Where are the feminists now?

This is obviously conjecture, but from my own experiences from dealing with Iranians it seems their country's society has the opposite problem to that of the Turks. While Turkey is a secular country, most Turks are quite religious, and it is for that reason Ataturk specifically emphasized the important of keeping the influence of Islamism out of government and provisioned for the use of force to do so if necessary. The fact that Erdogan, an Islamist, was elected into office and continues to dismantle these safeguards while giving himself increasingly dictatorial power with popular support demonstrates this, as his supporters believe he's bringing the will of God back into the godless secular Republic of Turkey.

In contrast, most Iranians are at best only moderately pious, and only abide by Sharia code because it's forced upon them by a pervasive police state at the whim of a ruling cabal of fanatics. Keep in mind that unlike Erdogan in Turkey, the current government came into power by force in 1979, and established itself by subjecting its citizenry to a totalitarian rule of law. This is why the Revolutionary Guards is tasked specifically with protecting the Islamic government, and why they're nearly as large as the army proper; they're there to protect the rulers when the common folk get fed up (like with this case of a young woman getting beaten to death for showing her hair). Iranians will only take so much bullshit in the name of Islam until they realize it's just an excuse for a bunch of psychopaths to ruin your life over minute shit like having a head scarf that's a little loose.

Hopefully I'm right and this uprising will be the one that finally gives Khameini and his ilk the boot.
