Is an ai uprising an actual threat to humanity or just a dumb sci fi plot?

Is an AI uprising an actual threat to humanity? No.
Will AI allow fundamental threats to humanity to emerge? Absolutely.

AI will not be a threat itself but it will be an expediter for other threats. Threats such as state totalitarianism where humanity is bastardized to a lowly state of being to sustain the state -or- emerging idiocracy where people come to depend on technology nobody understands -or- further social disintegration as trust and cohesion is eroded by AI mimics and companions. I would say that the first one is the most immediate concern. Just look at China.

It's a dumb idea. AI won't be the issue, but men using AI, on other men is, has been and will carry on being a problem. People with managerial minds, and machine thinking are a problem.
