We're going on the end of year two with the wildfires going on. I know Canada has a history of wildfire-related issues going back to at least the 1700's, but you would think a country which at least says it can handle shit would be able to deal with this or at least have better coping mechanisms for fires. As early as primary school, we are taught these; for example, hanging things from a ceiling is a no because it's a fire hazard. Different things are taught to us as fire hazards. Teachers would be having a heart attack in Canada (for more reasons than one, if they have oxygen-related medical issues).
I occasionally dabble in photography as well as getting some nature strolls in. I haven't been able to do that because there's smoke everywhere on most Summer days. And I live so, so very far away from the fire, if you could even consider it the same part of the commonwealth. Even on good days, while I like red sunsets, it's gotten old by now, and I'm tired of the sun looking like it has watched too much Mortal Kombat.
I also, conversely, understand the value of controlled burning. The Canadian government (or provincial governments) might be trying to imply that the fires should pass and wear itself out. But then again... people live in those areas. Businesses live in those areas. So this is another thing I hope they're not doing. Or maybe all the firefighters are just being corrupt again. Who knows?
It's possible that, in another timeline, I'd go over there and help with the efforts, but then again, Canada's immigration policies are stricter than America's.
How difficult is it to handle this and not force everyone into it?
