If Chris is an actual racist or if he's only parroting what he may have heard?

Marvin isn't black.

Pff. Yes he is. Look at his avatar. So naive.
Does that mean that Marvin is Phil LaMarr? Please tell me that's the case.
But yeah, I think Chris' racism is more due to ignorance than anything else.'

Chris is a true xenophobe. I think the majority of racists think they know everything about other races and hate them because of the differences they believe, but Chris legitimately doesn't know a damn thing about blacks or asians or whatever. All he knows is that on tv in the 90's, black people were loud in church and every other asian was named Kim.

He does know Kim is a mans name, right?

Maybe it is. I dunno really.

Well it's a unisex name. Can be used as a male name, and female name.

he is only a racist because he believes everyone else in the world is below him.

I think he's incredibly ignorant about black people, but I don't think he holds any real malice.

This. That and I think that it's more of an issue that he's uncomfortable around black people, due to various cultural reasons, but unlike most people he doesn't know that it's not something you announce to the whole world.

I think Chris is like a lot of people who seem racist. They aren't necessarily racists, just racially ignorant.

These people are racists.

There's this strange idea that's gotten into some people's head's that in order to be racist you have to be this hate-filled psychopath who murders people and burns crosses. You can't set your racism bar at "Klansman". If you have preconceived judgements about people of other races, you're a racist. If you think your race (or any other) is inherently superior to other races then you're a racist. There's no grey area of people who use racial slurs but who "just don't know any better".

Just because there are degrees of racism doesn't mean that ignorant people get a pass. Racism is steeped in ignorance; by definition any racist is going to be ignorant about race.

Seriously, I'm sick to death of people who "totally aren't racists" but who are bigoted prejudicial shit-heels. "But they've never lynched anybody, so they're not racist!"

Edit: In other words, "racist" has finally become a bad word so everyone is falling over themselves to disqualify the things they and the people they know do from being racist while never once questioning the rightness of those things.

This. The question isn't whether or not Chris is a racist, he is, but it's just a matter of what degree.

Two pages into this thread and we finally have the definition of a racist. And a good definition, at that.

Racism is steeped in ignorance; by definition any racist is going to be ignorant about race.

Yes and no. I think racism is more of a thing that is taught than just something you do because you don't know any better. Of course, just because they were taught to be racist doesn't mean they aren't ignorant about race.

As far as Chris being a racist, he doesn't strike me as someone who would be do acts of racial violence. I had a class that had a list of the level of prejudice, and Chris would be near the top (the lower end) of the list, someone who makes slurs and has negative thoughts about people of other races. Also, Chris is a racist because he takes media stereotypes of races at face value and doesn't get the humor. He may also be racist because Bob taught him.

Chris just doesn't like anything that falls outwith his comfort zone, so basically everything.
Also, when he throws around his racist slurs and opinions he's just showing how immensely ignorant and naive he is. When racial and anti-Semitic remarks are hurled around on South Park and family Guy, they're meant to show the ignorance of those using them. This kind of subtlety is so far beyond Chris comprehension it may as well be quantum physics. So Chris simply parrots them with disastrous results.
