Is it bad to be poor?

Poverty isn't a virtue in and of itself, but willingly denying yourself from anything the world has to offer is a virtue because it shows the Lord that you do not value the world, you value the hereafter. It's a way of showing that you truly do love him with all your heart, all your mind and all your soul.

If you’re poor and happy/content, then sure, that’s a pretty virtuous life. Not everyone needs to be a high baller.

If you’re poor and unhappy, but don’t work to improve yourself and complain relentlessly about being poor, then yeh that’s a bad thing. If you’re going to be upset about your lot in life, you need to work to improve it. If you work hard and fail, that’s fine. But not trying to change anything is pretty pathetic.

I feel like 95% of poor people fall into the later category

Austerity is relative.

George P. Mitchell, developer and philanthropist, from the 1980s to the late 2000s, lived in a significantly smaller and more modest house than his neighbors did, but by no means lived poorly.

If we agree on the idea that being poor is a mindset vs being financially broke, then yes being poor is bad. Poors will make excuses for their situation beyond the scope of realism, they are often overweight and engage in habits that are self destructive such as smoking and excessive drinking. Impulse buying is second nature, they often buy needless slop food/trinkets from a gas station or convenience store unaware or uncaring that the cost of such needless item far exceeds its worth. Broke people on the other hand can come from almost any background, they are not defined by their financial status and often work to surpass the limitations set by it. An example would be a well meaning family that had undergone unexpected job loss, they would recognize the new restrictions set upon their standard of living and work to fix them.

Poor people aren't always broke necessarily either. Many of us may know the classic example of the retard who sinks every dollar and cent they have into modifying some piece of shit car or truck, while they themselves live in squalor. They have no money, but they make enough to save, but are incapable of doing so because they need dem rims n shieet nigga. A poor does not live to see past immediate gratification, somebody who is broke can work to live better.

It is always bad to be poor. You are weaker, less able to fight back against oppressors, and easy to dominate through extortion and coercion around your precarious situation. The only reason anybody wants others to be poor is to control them.

Doesn't mean you need to mindlessly chase wealth but you need to be frugal and develop skills so you are independent of your lords.

Poor people live a difficult, precarious and often short life. Human happiness and pleasure isn't an objective thing, instead, humans will adapt themselves to be miserable in almost any circumstance. Someone very wealthy will have a much harder time keeping up a "high" than someone who is constantly struggling and enjoying sparse success.

If they were born to wealth, their expectations for what's a "good time" are so insanely high that on a given day they're more likely to be unfulfilled than happy. If they weren't born to it, and had to create a fortune, they have to face a difficult fact: you can't create a fortune without using and ruining other people, and becoming a hated miser by the time you get there.

The poor are forced to constantly do unpleasant and difficult things to survive, but doing difficult things makes you smart and strong. Conversely, only doing pleasant things that you want to do and that give you pleasure, makes you stupid and weak.

It's more pleasant to be rich, but pleasure is a cancer. Therefore it's better to be poor.

larping as poor might has its benefits , it can keep you from becoming actually poor. There is a value to living below your means specially when everything is trying to psy ops you into living above them but not having any means at all is an awful situation to be in. Even if you wanted to live like an ascetic monk you'd still prefer to do it knowing that you have a big enough money cushion in the bank.

Poverty is also a very relative term, it never means the same thing but i would say generally, is much more preferable to just be poor than to be in debt. If you are gonna be dead broke at least be free.

The philosopher Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king. Said Aristippus, "If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils."

Said Diogenes, "Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king."

No, but it's bad for elites to purposefully exacerbate conditions which lead to being poor, and they should be dealt with.
