Is it okay to be racist towards your own race?

Forgive if this is offensive, but I have been pondering for the longest time :

I was in a voice chat years ago with a few African American friends, and they always refer to each other as "nigger". And even me, whilst being an Asian.

They get offended if someone besides their race called them the N word, and I have never said that word to them.

So my question is the same as my title : Is it okay to be racist towards your own race?

It's ok to be racist in general, you just gotta know the people you hang around with enough to know if they are chill enough for that type of bants.
Clearly it doesn't bother you to be called nigger, and they know it. So gonna guess they wouldn't mind you doing it back

Sorry! I'm new and still learning the ways of this community, could you kindly advice how?

Ok, so when you create a new thread, scroll down until you see "Post a poll", type your question (in this case, "Is it ok to be racist?") then for the "possible responses", put down Yes in the first box and No in the second box, of course, you can also add a third possible response as well (in this case, put Garlic bread as a choice). I wouldn't recommend closing the poll after a few days but the rest should be self-explanatory.

Usually black people say that to each other like they're saying "bro" so they probably like you enough to call you that. It's like, they or their ancestors have been called that by their white masters or their oppressors so it's more of a solidarity thing, like "we all suffered through the same shit." If a white person says that to them, then it takes a different meaning of oppression and not solidarity.

Funnily enough, I'm white and I had a couple of black friends call me "nigga". So for some people I'd imagine, it's isn't exclusive to black friends.

My general rule of thumb had always been "It's OK to do whatever you think you can get away with".

I can say i hate whites and that fine because i'm white. If i say i hate blacks ill get shit for that. If kanye says he hates whites that fine but if he says he hates blacks everyone goes apeshit. so its only fine to make fun of white people.

Yes but only if you are black.
I've known a lot of people and more than my fair share of strange individuals, but the only vicious racist I've ever met and interacted with regularly was a black man. Getting mugged a couple of times by particularly melanated friends when he was a teen seemed to help form that bias.

What sort of human thinks about their ancestors' honor and solidarity while they speak, and who actually processes the things they hear in terms of oppression and U.S. history? Improvised dialogue is not inherently interpretive (and therefore not inherently deliberate), it's much more likely that this double-standard a product of social training; the United States is racially hyper-aware and people tend to assume the worst from out-group individuals.

For OP's question, dead terms are dead because no one at all thought they were useful, and when a word is adopted or revived, all relevant meanings of the words are come back with it. I'm A-OK with black people using the word 'nigger', but so long as they do, they cannot be shocked when comedians use both definitions interchangeably for fun and profit, actual racists dredge up the old definition to hurt feelings, or whites try to use the new one that has become common language.
That's why I try to avoid using garbage words like 'toxic' when I'm able. Sure, it's a super useful term with a ton of utility, but the word was tethered with a pre-existing context by the people who created it, which just so happens to justify the censuring of unpopular speech. If people ignore it and avoid using it, a new (and hopefully not so loaded) word will crop up to fill the void.

Racism toward your own race essentially falls under self-depreciating humor. Like, if I call myself an asshole, nobody will get offended because who am I insulting? But whenever I call John Q. Random a skeevy degernerate pigfucker in line at the chick fil a, the staff asks me to leave (unless the recipient of the insult happens to be homosexual in which case they seem eerily fine with it). So the real question is are you fine with getting kicked out of chic fil a.

Saying "Nigger" is just harmlessly saying a word. People that call saying that word racism are just being idiots.

Racism should be reserved for discriminating against people for being a different ethnic groups.

It is okay to be racist towards any race as long as you can justify it.

Jokes are jokes, bigotry is bigotry. If you hate your own people and self, you really have something to sort out. Every group has done something for humanity good and bad if you only see reason to hate yourself you need some help.
