is it possible that someone can be tracking my computer? - and no I'm not talking glow niggers

Yes. Don't worry, I hardly pay attention. You're so boring that I just spend most of the shift playing gacha garbage.

Unless somebody else also has access to your computer and you think they would have a reason to install a keylogger onto it while you weren't looking then you don't really have anything to worry about. Pretty much everyone gets targeted ads, by the way.

The idea of true privacy on the Internet is mostly an illusion. There are steps you can take to reduce how much data is being collected about you (using Tor browser, VPNs, etc.) but these only go so far. You have to accept there's a decent chance that whatever you're looking at and posting could be traced back to you.

well I live in detroit and work as a janny
are you doing it for free?

ok serious answer to the thread now: getting weird ads targeted at other people is normal when using vpn. youre not the only person using that vpn provider, and ads have a hard time differentiating between different users on the same vpn so you get random shit all the time.

also if you're paranoid about internet shit like this you should keep your phone disconnected from the internet at all times, consider using tor on top of your vpn, maybe drop windows and use custom linux instead for maximum security and control

Why are you seeing ads in any capacity when there are countless ways to block them? DNS66/Adaway for android, uBlock Origin for desktop browsers and YouTube Vanced for youtube app specific adblocking.

As to whether you're being tracked, well, everyone is and there's really no way around it, unless you're really willing to go out of your way.

I'm not going to powelevel
I didn't believe you for a second.

alrighty thank you I am just up the ass about internet securiy.
You being worried about Internet security is like a fat guy worrying about exactly how much cholesterol is in a KFC Double Down. I promise that your opsec issues have nothing to do with your VPN or leaks through third-party advertisements.

I'm not going to powelevel, but I am seeing ads, that are in another state, resembling possible ads more applicable to someone else, despite me using a vpn set to germany. am I being tapped?
Do you have cookies enabled. If yes, then you are giving out a fingerprint to any website you visit with ads on it. VPNs just change you IP, they don't change your client characteristics.

Try wiping your web browser profile (cookies and everything) and then switch the VPN to a new address. The new address can also be German, it's just precaution against certain fingerprinting schemes ad networks use.

As long as YOU know where you computer is located it is possible for someone else to know that as well and track it. You, the user, is ultimately the weakest link. Chug liquor until you can't see straight and bury the computer somewhere in a forest, it's the only way to be safe. Use SSH on BSD to access your files.
