Is it really spelled "doxing"?

I actually did not know that consonants were only spelled once in American English. "Focussed" looks wrong.

And "doxing" is a recent Internet term, so it doesn't follow traditional English rules. But I believed it's spelled "doxing."

AFAIK some people call it "doxxing" because that's what they called it on SA, because SA Goons thought they invented it, and were already used to the word "Toxx", as in, Toxx Clauses

Toxx Clauses were a bet where you'd risk your account (accounts cost $10 + extra for avatars, search functionality, etc) on a bet, like predicting who would win an election. It came from a user named Toxx who said if his thread got enough replies, he'd duct tape his dick to his balls. The thread did, he didn't, he got banned, and nearly 20 years later it's historically significant enough to mention in a thread about how exactly to spell a word
