I have rid myself of all social media two years ago, other than this forum, and Linkedin. I'm on Linkedin primarily to have a record of my job qualifications, network, and ultimately aid in any future job searches.
The website seems to be morphing into Facebook in some ways, much to my dismay. There's a feed, there's a profile of your preferences and demographics for targeted ads.. And worst of all, there's lots of political posts! Every time I log in I see them, and every time I select the options to 'not see this kind of post again.' but it doesn't stop the deluge of political posts. Also there's a LOT of virtue signaling. Almost nothing in my feed relates to my job or career path.
At the moment I'm not looking for a new job, but I feel some sense of obligation to check in once in a while to keep my account fresh and my network going. But I'm waning and am tempted to just remove the whole thing.
Also there's the issue of privacy. Its a social media that uses your real name and provides personal info... its kind of necessary on this job prospecting-related site, but a drawback nonetheless. Being on Kiwifarms has reminded me of the importance of anonymity online.
