Is Linkedin worth it?

I have rid myself of all social media two years ago, other than this forum, and Linkedin. I'm on Linkedin primarily to have a record of my job qualifications, network, and ultimately aid in any future job searches.

The website seems to be morphing into Facebook in some ways, much to my dismay. There's a feed, there's a profile of your preferences and demographics for targeted ads.. And worst of all, there's lots of political posts! Every time I log in I see them, and every time I select the options to 'not see this kind of post again.' but it doesn't stop the deluge of political posts. Also there's a LOT of virtue signaling. Almost nothing in my feed relates to my job or career path.

At the moment I'm not looking for a new job, but I feel some sense of obligation to check in once in a while to keep my account fresh and my network going. But I'm waning and am tempted to just remove the whole thing.

Also there's the issue of privacy. Its a social media that uses your real name and provides personal info... its kind of necessary on this job prospecting-related site, but a drawback nonetheless. Being on Kiwifarms has reminded me of the importance of anonymity online.

Its give and take as Linkedin is an increasingly more necessary job/talent search tool. Unfortunately Microsoft does what they always do with acquisitions and fucks them up by trying to turn it into some social media app.

If you need those networks and connections for work or prospective work, then its probably a good idea to keep it around. Otherwise you can abandon it for Indeed, glassdoor or the other dozen or so job/talent search tools that actually commit to being a search tool. You can't get around giving up private info though, that will always be the risk you take if you are going to use one of these job search tools.

If you're looking to change jobs, maybe. If you somehow enjoy the self-aggrandizing bullshit and petulant virtue signaling by sycophantic con artists, eh, maybe. Otherwise, fuck no. The only time I ever use LinkedIn is to post job offers for senior positions, and my results are typically little better than on Indeed or ZipRecruiter.

We are going back a decade, even old fag basso didn't use social media. I thought linkdin would be a adult idea, it wasn't. PL forgive me, I was handing coffee out to someone who's well a big name in fiance.

So I'm there grinding out and I legit got messages from people who bullied me in middle school ( I wasn't always as chad as I am now). Asking for work. I was like bro, you stole my chips 10 years ago and now ask for help because I'm around big shots? So before it was banned, I'd say man don't worry bygones be bygones, I can get you 100/hr a job!

They were like hook me up basso.. I sent em gay 4 pay ads. Those pussies cried and reported me. I got banned. Those niggers stole my cookies when I was 9 and now want more when I got balling off a career, fuck off faggots.

It's useful for keeping up with connections, etworking with people in your industry, and potential recruiters for future jobs (learn to deal with shitty recruiters).

No, and you're right on the money with it being another useless social media site. Adding "connections" is all the people you're working day-to-day with anyway, or more likely, all the recruiters vying for 10% of your first year's salary. Take a few hours tidying up your resume to look nice and be presentable and you'll find LinkedIn isn't "necessary" at all.

If you're looking for a new job then having an account makes browsing their listings less annoying, as LinkedIn will throw a login wall in your face after an unspecified number of views while logged out. Anything you put up there is datamined to the last drop, so I logged in maybe once when I've switched jobs to add former coworkers.
