Is love a real emotion or is it just a socially constructed concept for "like"?

I've known every single form of love known to man deeply and passionately, but never romantic love. I can't get that deeply invested in a chick unless she's proven herself in some way that it makes me want to be the leader of her home.
fudge that last sentence depresses the hell out of me.
