Also, it really feels like a majority of folks would rather not think about the mooing cow or chicken on their plates. Humans keep different classes of animals: Livestock, tools, and pets. Some of these categories overlap and some are incompatible. In the case of this dog, it was a tool. There is a bit of desensitizing as far as country folk go, with the raising of food animals and then making them put the animal down so it can be rendered. That's taking the blinders off how life works, but it is absolutely done intentionally. It is a lesson, and not a gentle one. It's also more honest than buying your meat packed in plastic at the grocery store.

The people saying that for country folk, dogs are equipment are correct. That doesn't make the practice moral or immoral, it just means that is how they operate.

I understand for people who have dogs as friends and companions instead of working dogs cannot wrap their head around that, but you don't have to like it or accept it, it is simply a way that people are different than you, and likely vote against your interests as you vote against theirs.

that poor dog was just having a good time. a dog will behave the way you train it. your failure to properly train your dog doesn't give you a green light to shoot it. should've just kept it in the house, or given it to a friend or family member. the only way i'd see this as being justified is if the dog was showing aggression towards people.

it costs money to take a dog to the vet to be put down, so if you're a struggling rancher, i understand that a slug will be cheaper. she has a net worth of over 2 million though. could've been more humane about it. definitely shouldn't have bragged about it. if she can recover from this politically, i'll eat my hat.

So a couple more points, at 14 months, it's really not a puppy any more. It'll be fully grown, at least with breeds I'm familiar with.

For extra large breeds, 14 months is still a puppy. Takes about 2 years for them to reach adulthood. I'm used to huge dogs, so it's hard not to look at that age and think of a really awkward looking teenaged dog. I know pointers aren't jumbo breeds. Just pointing out there are breeds that take longer to mature.

Conservatives love chauvinism, but I don't get it- does anyone think that culling ewes or chicks is more masculine than slaughtering steer? Do people think of the former as some sort of ritual cleansing of femininity, weakness? That's pretty fucked up and sad, and devalues the concept of masculinity when it's viewed that way IMO.
