Is religion outdated?

I think as a species we have to start moving away from organized religion and towards a more worldly and individual conception of spirituality. I think religion is actually extremely important in building community bonds and giving people a sense of meaning, but the form of it we have currently is basically the ideological descendent of bronze age tribal warfare. The Abrahamic religions specifically are inherently authoritarian and bigoted unless you totally deconstruct their basic concepts like most liberal christians or Muslims are want to do. And that's the thing, in order to make a religion like Christianity tolerant and loving you need to strip it of everything that made it Christianity.

Religion? Sort of. A lot of religious are just legalized cults (just look at Scientology) and exist only to control the masses, while barely teaching people about legit morals and ethics.

The real question is spirituality because it is something a lot of people are lacking and it does help build character and principals. Then again, fuck that up and you'll end up like a hippe, a diddler priest or Charles Manson.

why I find The Last Church to be such a good short story is because it tackles the issue of religion and secularism presents both the good and the bad of both.

You just answered your own question. Religion will never pass, only the popularity of some will ebb and flow as new ones are introduced and old ones are reformed.

You just advocated for Sciencism so instead of sky daddies you choose flesh daddies to worship. Look at Faucism, it's people like you.
