I really doubt it. One of the strongest ties I've seen between anime and anything else is the toxic "I only play PvP games to shit on people" groups like Souls fans.

They don't watch anime for the sake of anime, or the vast majority of Slice of Life stories that are moderately worthwhile; they watch it for the memes. There are so many cultural tropes like the whole "A bath? ... Or me?" shit, that to these idiots are as satisfying to reference as a good kappa kappa trihard in the chat of their favorite streamer.

I mean, currently you have shit like Shadman and dick girls being prominent in basically every medium. It's edgy to be aware of hentai and make this obvious, such as those idiotic ahegao hoodies. I've yet to really list the traits but I've come to see the exact same things in people of this category: The whole I'm better than you but still wanna be lewd character, jerking off to lolis and dickgirls while belittling people who do this shamelessly (furries etc). A friend of mine afks in F-List chats all day, and often sends me these extremist opinions from chats meant to be "hey kid wanna fuck?".

I think it's the toxic collision between being isolated and jaded, and realizing the benefits and satisfaction in being emotional and open to other people. It's like a bad western kind of tsundere. The reason a lot of people become furries is because it's an easy identifier that you subscribe to certain traits, and in recent times, especially feminine/femboys match the anime avatar trope more than anyone. Memes, only into the niche acceptable kinks like thicc mommy xdd and games of the Souls/RPG PvP genre, spouting shit to let others know they're a cool dude who might send you a cheeky ironic :3 now and then.

And then of course those who just crop a random anime pic off of google, but those posers just follow whatever trend gets them attention. Cartoon Man bad? Me Cartoon Man..
