As a Scandinavian sperg I can tell you with 100% certainty it's because frozen wastelands are exclusively settled by people who would rather live in a frozen wasteland than be around other people.

In comparison with the people who are willing to travel with me, they seem to me fairly normal. Swedes seem to be talky af, even.

Differences in behaviour in general (that can come off as spergy) may have to do with the fact they have scarcer food resources, and in history they had to put more forethought and planning into their everyday living, than in lands where you forget a chair outside and come to four trees.
