So it seems like lately twitter is getting really worse - people are reporting that you can barely scroll anywhere on twitter recently without it nagging you to log in/sign up

People are reporting starting new accounts that instantly get flagged as "suspicious" and the site then tries to ransom them for their phone number to "verify"

Pretty much every interesting non-bluecheck account I used to follow is either closed or suspended for "rule violations".

I haven't touched my own twitter in over a year...probably can't even get into it anymore, it'll probably try to jew me for my phone number if I try

So what do you think? Is twitter dying? Do you use/used to use twitter a lot? What do you think about it?

isn't twitter's userbase already relatively small in comparison to other websites? It's just that that's where corporations and politicians have set up shop, for some baffling reason. I remember seeing charts that twitters active userbase was something like 5% of stuff that facebook owns.

But yes, twitter hits you with so many nag prompts that the site is LITERALLY unusuable. As in, it will not let you use it. It's getting to the point where if friends link me a meme or whatever, half the time I just have to say "sorry, can't see it". That's typically a sign that a site is trying to gain or maintain accounts.

Facebook, if you're not aware, effectively bans you from using their site at all unless you give them a phone number. I think you can see front page previews and whatnot, but actually viewing anything outside of that seems to be off limits. We have one retard in our group of friends that constantly links stuff from facebook, and we have to tell him EVERY TIME "nobody can see whatever gay boomer shit you linked".

Twitter was dying before Trump basically brought it back to life by being on it during his presidency. Now it's back to where it was headed before as the format is annoyingly limiting and the user enjoyment just sucks. It used to nag you before about logging in to navigate, but you could just right click and open in a new tab to bypass most of it, but now you scroll a couple of posts and it locks you out unless you log in. Fuck that, I'll just wait for someone to post the funny shit somewhere else instead.

Twitter was never alive to begin with. Its continued existence is because media types (and out-of-touch boomers who consume media uncritically) are obsessed with it and think it represents the entire world.
And the out of touch boomers who consume media uncritically have power....they have all of it

I only have one for accounts like jim or rekeita that I already follow outside of streaming platforms to know when they plan on streaming, so I barely do anything with it. I don't use it personally and I can't remember the last time I heard someone IRL mention it
