Is Windows 11 worth it?

Is it normal that whenever a Windows Update goes through, all my default programs are reset to Windows' barebones alternatives?

I can't default a model file to blender because Windows Update will reset it to 3D viewer the week after.

It's definitely in the ME/Vista/8 tier of OSes. The "show more options" thing in the right click menu really sucks. It's full of random bullshit like that.
It's one of the most anti user-friendly feature ever made. The pajeets want to streamline everything but somehow they thought that it was a great idea to waste people's time with 2 right click menus. It's also a clash with the new round aesthetic.

I'll say it's.... Mediocre currently but will get btwothis fall with the new update.

I put it on my laptop and it's a bit odd coming from Win 10 it's not enraging like Win 8 (not 8.1) was.

Still, my desktop will be on Win 10 till 2024

I remember seeing this sort of behavior in earlier builds of Windows 10 but I haven't had this happen to me in a few years. Changing default file associations without user input is pretty broken in my opinion. I have no idea what causes this.

I recently picked up a new laptop with Windows 11 preloaded and nothing about it seems like an improvement over Windows 10. Being forced to log in to a Microsoft account first before setting it up also gave me a really bad first impression since I only use local user accounts. The changes to the UI aggravate me. When I build a new desktop to replace my main system running Windows 10, it will be running Linux.

No it isnt, something else fucked is going on there. Though it wouldnt shock me if microsoft does roll some shit like that out, they did reset all default browsers back to Edge with one of the earlier windows 10 updates (maybe it was the first "November Update"? it was the one that also put an edge icon on every desktop for the first time)

Select the "I dont have internet" option when setting up, or place a configured autounattend.xml file (you can get one of those here) at the root of an install usb to bypass the microsoft account setup, the latter option might be the only way now on Windows 11 Pro specifically, i havent setup that version in a while but i heard they removed the "i dont have internet" bypass for it

You can also choose "join school or work domain" instead and it'll walk through creating a local user account and you can just not join a domain once you're logged in. Had to do this for a Windows 11 Pro laptop at work recently.

I'm not sure if it still does that, but it did do it for an obnoxiously long duration and it really pissed me off.

Can't you have the option if you unplug the ethernet before starting the install? I remember doing it on a spare SSD a few months ago, when the installer asks if you have internet, you can pick "no" then it will ask again a couple of times until the "I don't have Internet" appears in small.

I believe so, but IIRC it only lets you bypass it now if you have no ethernet plugged in and no wifi adapter installed. Please correct me if its changed now but the last time i installed Windows 11 for a customer that was the case
