People are so fucking insane about the concept of food spoilage it's ridiculous.
I don't know how the modern obsession with refrigeration came about, but you could 100% unquestionably leave yogurt sit out for 12 hours straight, probably more, and it wouldn't stand any chance of causing you a problem. When has anyone ever heard of a person actually getting food poisoning from leaving food out for too long? It's virtually always due to contamination at the source.
I genuinely believe people's warped views of how readily food spoils unrefigerated is entirely a product of of meat/dairy lobbying groups trying encourage people to go through as much of their product as humanly possible. Possibly also to shift perception away from producers as the source of disease and to consumers.
