ISWV Community thread - Destroying the Hugbox

My apologies for not making fun of a bunch of obsessives who are literally about to kill themselves and/or firebomb a judge's car because they feel entitled to having him play Men's Rights Activist at their behest. Next time I'll be sure to follow the rules and get straight to it.
I mean there will always be those types no matter where you go. Don't go just attributing to a specific community or group. Cause that's simply you lacking an understanding there. There will ALWAYS be lolcows, dipshits, radicals, etc, no matter where you go. The only consistent thing in this world is Florida Man

Honestly I think where Vic fucked up was suing for conspiracy and TI, most MeToo victims that have sued seem to settle on defamation and slander.
And how has that gone for them?

Defamation cases in the US rarely succeed with good lawyers, now add LOLyers like Nick and Ty to the mix and..

The cost of having to pay Monica/Ron/Marchi/Funimation's lawyers for losing at TCPA + the mental + reputational cost (And before you say it: Yes, there was already a reputational cost due to the nature of the allegations he was fighting, I'm simply acknowledging the fact that we don't know if the court case and ensuing publicity has hurt his reputation more than the allegations would have.) That other bit about no one coming forward is just goofball shit, the KickVic affidavits clearly have examples of at least 4 people coming forward with the things alleged and I haven't even actually read all of them (Monica, Yost twins, Mary Reese) The fact that you (and I) don't believe the affidavits and that no one has provided hard evidence of the accusations don't mean s h i t to 95% of the onlookers and it doesn't mean that people haven't come forward.
%100 truth. No one deserves to go bankrupt so some anons get to dunk on the libs or whatever.

What's really ironic here is that Vic was apparently really close to going with the right tactical choice here: Make a blanket PR apology, seek therapy and bide his time quietly.

But a certain drunk LOLyer not only decided to convince him that suing is an easy guaranteed win, but also brought him a LanDUI-tier lawyer to sink whatever case he may have had..

Surprised it took this long for this thread to get made.

The people doing it don't care about Vic, or KV. They are just desperate autists, fulfilling their roles of agents of chaos.

Good fucking luck telling that to the judge, or really anyone, m8.

I'm still catching up but it seems like Vic's decision to go to court would've actually been the correct one had Ty not fucked the pooch.

Rather well actually, of course their lawyers didn't dick around on youtube to fight an idiotic culture war.

I'm mainly thinking of two cases here though, Geoffrey Rush and that army dude who sued the woman who screwed him out of a promotion via a fake MeToo#.

There's also Johnny Depp but that's still pending and again his lawyer isn't acting like a spastic.

The Rush case was in Australia, not US. Even apart from that it's not the best comparison, considering the difference in public stature and that the woman technically didn't metoo him; she said something off the record about Rush's behaviour to a journalist at a party, who then went and published it later without her permission. That was a shitshow all around.

The army dude (David Riggins) is actually the best parallel because the result of that seems to be what Rekeita's blueprint for this case was - expose the parts of the accuser's story that don't seem to line up and then hope that a jury is swayed by how they "feel" about the accusers in order to get the verdict they were looking for. Virginia apparently has a much weaker anti-SLAPP statute and Riggins' accuser was much less willing to stand her ground than Vic's so it appears to have not worked out so far.

Said a spergstorm was coming a few days ago and it's good to confirm the barometer is still working. Now depending on Chupp's decision we're either in the eye of the storm or that was just a sample of what could be coming in the future. Either way the TCPA reaction and Tug descending into lolcow status may be my favorite things about Weeb Wars so far. KickVic better step it up.

What cost? Vic hasn't paid a dime for his legal defense.
I thought Vic was paying before the GFM got put out

Maybe. But how many of those also have them calling the place where you're supposed to do a gig to sink it?

Methinks you are channeling a wee bit too much from your current Avatar.

@JamFlowMan What would be really crazy is if say at the same time the Judge decides to say screw the rest of the charges all the while Sabat gets MeTooed or Sony and/or Toei says screw Funimation, we're done with you. That way everyone gets pissed on.

I'd argue that Jim and Sargon were (and still are) those equivalents (look at their fanbases even today), but at the time, I'm not sure if one could pay them to ask that shit, because to my knowledge, there wasn't any equivalent to the superchat infrastructure that aids and fuels today's YouTube exceptionalism.

There's always a choice to ignore shit my nig, especially when it comes to getting involved in drama without personally knowing any of its parties.

The fact that Vic could end up in a worse hole than he started is evidence that there's always a better way.

I think the lesson is to not hire incompetent council. Make sure you hire someone who has experience litigating the issue at hand. Don't fall for meme firms with fancy offices or take referrals from people you don't know who might have less than altruistic reasons for recommending a particular firm.
