John Constantine, Hellblazer: John is a great character because he's equal parts fuckup, bastard, and loser as much as he is 'hero.' Every triumph of his begets some horrific sacrifice to counter it. He fights the darkness and misery follows him. I've got the 21 volumes of the current trade paperback collections that are out and I'm waiting for # 22 to drop at the end of the month.

The Maxx: I fell in love with the MTV Oddities series when I was a bleary-eyed, caffeine crashing youngster back in '95, and I was lucky enough to buy up the graphic novels before they went out of print. The story of the Quixotic purple superhero conjured up by a trauma victim's psychotic hangups still entertains me, even if it's obvious Sam Kieth was winging it here and there.

The Watchmen: Still one of the better superhero deconstructions.

Preacher: Some of it I've grown out of (along with the fedora that came with my collection) but I can't stay mad at Preacher for long. It's Garth Ennis at his creative, depraved peak.

Batman: Year One: Oh Frank, you've always been a little unhinged, haven't you? That said, I've reread Year One more than anything else in my collection. It's such an entertaining, readable origin story, and Bruce-as-Travis-Bickle fits in with the reality that Bats is as close to crazy as his rogue's gallery.

The original Valiant universe run, and the post-image Wildstorm comics were mostly great. DP7 from the new universe wasn't terrible. Requiem Chevalier and Marshall Law were intriguing And disturbing. Uber had me tense with every issue, and it's a shame Uber: Invasion ended like it did. Exiles from Marvel was fun. Deathlok had a mini in the 2000s-2010s with an interesting alternate universe robocop/universal soldier concept. The Sword inappropriately touched my feels right here on the teddy bear. We3 is gud. I think Miracleman is my favorite as it's something I keep rereading, the alien concepts were brilliant.
