Saw a few Rachet and Clank threads but surprisingly nothing on this game.

Anywho, for those of you unaware, there's an unofficial PC port being made from scratch

From the website:
Project Description
This project is to port Jak 1 (NTSC, "black label" version) to PC. Over 98% of this game is written in GOAL, a custom Lisp language developed by Naughty Dog. Our strategy is:
  • decompile the original game code into human-readable GOAL code
  • develop our own compiler for GOAL and recompile game code for x86-64
  • create a tool to extract game assets into formats that can be easily viewed or modified
  • create tools to repack game assets into a format that our port uses.
Our objectives are:

  • make the port a "native application" on x86-64, with high performance. It shouldn't emulated, interpreted, or transpiled.
  • Our GOAL compiler's performance should be around the same as unoptimized C.
  • try to match things from the original game and development as possible. For example, the original GOAL compiler supported live modification of code while the game is running, so we do the same, even though it's not required for just porting the game.
  • support modifications. It should be possible to make edits to the code without everything else breaking.

We support both Linux and Windows on x86-64.

They seem to be 80% done with it

Hey, sounds good.
Nothing about if they're gonna planning to make sequels of the other Jak games, not even in the FAQ.
What.

I've never tried emulating Jak and Daxter, but from what I've read there was some graphical glitch going on with the characters' eyes. Maybe that's what motivated this port?

The Jak trilogy of games were the best games on the ps2 and I would go as far to say Jak II is still one of the best games ever made. I'm looking forward to this.
I love the trilogy, but I can't say they're the best when the PS2 was a bastion of amazing standalones and series.

i used to watch my brother play these all the time. hope they're successful.

That issues were fixed a good while ago, seems the Jak speedruners got involved with PCSX2 to sort it out.

Do hope someone ports it to the Vita just to see how much better it is than Sony's official version on the vita which runs at 20fps max

Is there a list of all these PC ports somewhere? I want to play through all of them at some point, but I want to see whats available first.

Sony copies Nintendo once again lmao

In all seriousness, this is impressive. I own the original but have never actually played it, so I might have to try this out.

Jak II was unnecessarily hard and more frustrating than fun. Having said that, I did stick with it until I finished it and there's a lot about it I liked. However, the first one is still my favorite.

The original Jak & Daxter trilogy really honed in on the kind of fantasy themes early 2000s games revolved around. Remote island mysteries to urban grit fantasy. I enjoyed the combat in Jak II, but I also found it unfairly difficult and even worse, game breakingly buggy.

Guys know the escort mission bug? Fuck that kept me off the game for a solid few months.

I wanted to like Jak 2. But, as this thread has pointed out, it's too difficult. I recall a timed mission with driving through the city that took time to progress.

Jak 3 appears to be Jak 2 but open world in the desert. And Jak himself went from quiet kid to angry teen.

I did enjoyed Daxter on my PSP.

I replayed the whole series in 2014.

Trouble with Jak II is it’s open world city, impressive at the time, hasn’t aged well because there’s not really anything to do in it and it’s cramped and frustrating as you just want to get from point A to point B and just keep crashing into shit or running people over.

Jak III actually improves this by switching to open desert instead of cramped streets but there’s still a whole lotta nothing in the desert and a chunk of the game returns to the city, I still don’t get why Sony rushed III out in a year instead of giving them another year of polish, Sly 3 had the exact same issue.

Overall I thought the switch to an edgier tone was mind blowing because I was just the right age to find it cool, but in hindsight the original game is by far the best and I wish it had stuck with it’s tone and art style.

The original Jak is one of the times a game felt the most “next gen” to me, even coming out around the same time as GTAIII it was still fucking insane going from the Crash trilogy to Jak.

A PC port would be cool.

A memory of better times in gaming.
