I don't even think James is really a lolcow just mildly autistic. Mike Matei has far more lolcow qualities then James ever did.

I'm not "handwaving" anything. It's still a shit movie. The difference is that they know it's shit, AVGN thought he was creating some kind of autistic masterpiece. Being aware that something is shit doesn't make it not shit. RLM made their movie knowing it was low budget shit, and as a result could include jokes about that.

DSP knows he's a lolcow, does it make him any less of a lolcow? No. If anything it provides more opportunity to laugh at him as he freaks out about the lolcow shit on occasion.

Definitely not a lolcow, and other than his screwups regarding production it's kind of confusing why James even has a thread. Mike on the other hand screeching like a retard during his streams, turned out he was the funny one behind the scenes of AVGN anyway so once he left the quality went down the toilet for the most part. At this point James can make a mediocre episode or a passable episode, but nothing great.

Major controversy no, minor one? Yes, the plagiarism when he was working with those screenwave idiots to do his halloween month and they wrote scripts for him copying other people's shit damn near verbatim at times. That one kind of wasn't his fault as he relied on them to write the scripts(rather than just doing it himself like he had done in the past) and it bit him in the ass. Also overall the quality of his work when he was dealing with those guys was generally mediocre at best. Cinemassacre's screenwave era was probably the lowest point in terms of shit people actually enjoyed watching.

The "fans of an assholish variety" comment he made in some really stupid "behind the scenes" video back in 2021. But a lot of people gave him the benefit of a doubt and thought it was Screenwave writing the script (which it probably was). There was also the plagiarism controversy during his horror movie stuff a few Octobers ago, but that was more just Screenwave and the slobs yanked the videos and fired the intern who did it.

Yeah I agree. I think the MOST you could pull from is the supposed sag in quality a lot of people talk about for a bit, but even then the latest videos have actually been pretty good. I usually throw a video or two of his every so often in the background. Good for just feeling some nostalgia. I wouldn't call them crazy innovative, but I didn't actually watch him until so much later. But the video on Contra and FF6 were pretty great. Honestly, he seems really mentally together... Idk if I could even call him autistic. Dude just enjoys getting goofy for the camera. Sure his content is a bit dated, but anything else would be considered "not AVGN." The continued cursing and bad fx are what make it still the same AVGN.

James is 100% autistic. Read his autobiography and it's clear his autism is one level above Chris, except unlike Chris he had good parents and teachers who helped him become a functional human being.

But even as an adult he has some key tells about his autism. The production of the AVGN Movie is a key one, dude wanted to be a director so he thought he had to film it in California with a unionized cast and all sorts of other bullshit which bloated the budget and took a ton of extra time. Or look at how much he fucks with his camera setup. Or how he kept advertising his autobiography even though it's full of absolutely insane stories like him going to the beach to drown himself in 2 inches of water because he got a year suspension from film school for filming himself and his buddies tearing up the dorm.
