I can only imagine Justin or Kieran bringing up games and pop culture stuff from long after James stopped caring (ie, pretty much anything after the N64, probably even during) and James just tuning out every single time.

"A-huh. Yup. Oh, really."

Or even worse, when they do talk about something James cares about, he'll get cut off by the slobs and won't get any meaningful words in.

James is really good when he prepares a script about something he truly cares about. Even a video about him noticing the cardboard in Dracula was entertaining. But I don't see him preparing notes or anything for this podcast. When he does get to speak, expect a lot of "Ums...uh...well..."

I think this has been said like a million times now, but it's so clear that James is not a gamer. He really is only into film, and even then films from before the 90s. Every review he does on newer movies can be summed up as "yeah its cool *insert scene description* and um... this actor was in it. Go see it". And with games its just as bad. If its anything past like 1995 then he could not care even if you paid him.

Atleast with mike they had someone who kept up with anything past the 90s and could actually bring something to the table or keep the conversation going.

I don't think he should force himself to talk about modern games and movies if he doesn't really enjoy them, though. The focus on past media was one of the reasons (if not the main reason) behind the channel's initial success. And it's not like he has exhausted the entiere back catalogue of popular culture from before the early 90's either. But I guess he's just tired of talking about movies and video games altogether nowadays.

I think he should try to find a way to keep producing the AVGN without spending so much time on each episode, so he could have more time and energy left to work on the projects he's truly excited about, like Rex Viper (unfortunately) and his horror movies.

Episode 200 of the AVGN is getting closer. Many are waiting to see what James does, as he is a stickler for anniversaries and numerics. If little to nothing is done, it may be the final nail in optimism's coffin, and could be the reality check for those on the fence, as 200 episodes is a fair milestone to embrace and celebrate. Though, if AVGN isn't your thing...

Monster Madness is returning in October, which was encouraging to hear, but the reveal James is nominally involved shot that good-feeling down. Monster Madness is something James gets autistic about (or used to), but it's being handled by others this year? I'm a mixture of curious and disappointed, but time will tell if this is appropriate or not to feel.

With the distinctive analog quality of the footage capture, you can tell this time James actually played the game and not the slobs. The sad thing is that this happened just so they could film the already announced behind-the-scenes for this episode, but why do we need another behind-the-scenes when James already did this with the Barbie game?

It feels like a response to the truthers. As a way to show James is still totally involved with the production of the episodes, which is a fucking lie. I think the slobs should just forget about the truthers, they're only going to be satisfied with the end of the series by now anyway.

Guess I'm kind of looking forward to that even though I haven't really watched AVGN for like two years now. I'm just wondering what he would even do for it to make it special. Episode 100 isn't one of my favorites but he really did something big with it and R.O.B. is fairly iconic. He's already done all the infamous games I can really think of, and he's done his own personal favorite games and other stuff, Already did Virtual Boy. Is there anything that's been lying around for years he's been teasing or that we've seen but he hasn't touched? Maybe he could do another thing like the Tiger Games episode. But I think whatever it is it'll be heavy on the skits and story part.

I wanted to ask but what do you guys think is the first actual bad episode of AVGN? I know that even now James is still probably of putting out surprisingly good episodes, I remember all the way back with Paper Boy and people being shocked that it was as good as it was for the time it came out. But what about the inverse? What episode back in the golden age just wasn't good?

Do you count that "bad game covers" thing as being in the "golden age?" I think it was a Christmas special type of thing a few years back - short daily videos leading up to Christmas. But they were all too long anyway. We don't really need it explained to us for three minutes why the covers for Bust-A-Move and Phalanx were dumb - we can see them with our own eyes, thanks.

He did the Independence Day PS1 game way back in the day.

Isn't that what he does already? That's why he has the fat guys from Screenwave doing pretty much everything.

I never liked the second Bugs Bunny episode (and I remember watching it when it came out), because the skit went on for way too long and just wasn't that funny. Although I bet if I watched it now, it would be funnier than anything he's done this year.

Not a spectacular episode, but a little more entertaining than Carmaggedon 64 (which is still not that bad) and way better than Sega Tapes
I thought Sega VHS was good except the ending. Also, kinda got SJW-y kinda vibes when he was talking about the maid.

The Pac-Man 2 episode was too short but good.
