I get why the filmmakers want to include him but James knows jack shit about FPS. I make you a bet he's never played Doom 2 let alone Duke 3D, Unreal, Blood, etc. The only Doom he ever played was most likely the SNES port and the brief time he captured footage for it for the Jaguar and 32X AVGN's.

At most he might have played wolf 3d since that got a SNES port too. I'm sorry though, but if you have only played the SNES ports of both of those games, then you really haven't played them as they run pretty poorly. Wolf 3d runs much better, but my point still stands. If you are gonna play those 2, at the very least please use doxbox if you somehow can't figure out how to use source ports.

We didn't know any better when we played that shit back in the day. I played 32X Doom and it was the only game I had on the 32X (my parents got it as an Xmas gift for $20) but the cart worked whenever it wanted to work. I think I was only able to play 32X Doom maybe 5 times in total. I don't know if that's a weird 32X thing or I just very unlucky with the cart but it's the only cart I've ever had that just refused to work.

But the handful of times the cart worked I loved the game. Later on I had Doom 2 for Windows 95 but I couldn't get it to work. It wasn't until we got Windows 98 that I got the game to work. Years after that I discovered the source ports of Doom and Brutal Doom just gave the mod scene a huge shot in the arm.

I think you were just unlucky with the cart as my 32X copy of the game has always worked fine for me

He played the 360 port of Ultimate Doom on a James & Mike episode, and has mentioned playing the PC version back in the day, but not as much as the console ports.

Honestly, even Mike would have been a better option than James for this documentary, at least he has played more FPS games beyond Doom.

The 32x port is not THAT bad.

I think the 32X port was better than the SNES. It looked better graphically even if the sound wasn't good. Both versions suck compared to the PC version because they're both missing half the levels and lack the Cyberdemon. Although the SNES version does have the Spider Mastermind at least.

Wasn't the 32X port made by a programming genius (who is coincidentally a troon) in a month?
That was the 3DO version, the 32X port was done by SEGA with some assistance from Carmack himself, who was at the last minute working at SEGA of America on the port, because they wanted it as a launch title.

If they just had a few more months we could have gotten a decent port at the very least, at least fans eventually fixed it.

I would love if AVGN reviewed Final Fantasy 8 like Spoony
I'm probably being a fan sperg about this, but despite all of VIII's flaws, Final Fantasy is like both a tard magnet and supremely cult series. Anytime someone reviews an installment in the series, you already draw both detractors and butt huffing yes men to you. Even reviews by the supposedly "most composed reviewers" tend to have chinks in their armor that showcase how fucking unhinged they are.

Final Fantasy isn't without its flaws, but that series has like a reviewing cartwright curse to it. I don't think that will help AVGN's case.
